Thunderbolt Siren chopper/rotator motor test

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here is a test of the rotatator and chopper motors on my new Federal Signal Thunderbolt Siren. I recently bought this siren from a fellow collector who did a great job restoring it, the only thing for me to do is wire up the AR timer and the RCM panel. This siren was originally installed in 1963 for the town of Manchester, GA and bought by a collector when it was taken down in 2012. Some of the other parts that were not in good condition (such as the blower motor) were replaced with parts from the Springfield, IL Thunderbolt. Stay tuned for more tests in the future and thanks for watching :D

It is also nice to have a Georgia Thunderbolt. This unit was purchased from a collector in Decatur, but it was originally installed in Manchester, GA. The blower motor and RCM are from Springfield, IL in order to make the unit single phase.

One (or even both) of y'all ought to bring your Thunderbolt(s) down here to Warner Robins one weekend and get to fire it up at its full potential during one of our monthly tests. I have everything needed to tie one into the 80A circuit at breaker panel in my downstairs shop, but alas my own T-bolt has a three phase motor driving its blower so no dice for me running mine.

I might take you up on that offer, my single phase 5M blower sure would pack a punch! It would be nice to hear this unit roar again in the south/central Georgia area. I can DM you on ARS to work out the details if I get the chance to take you up on this offer.

What siren in Springfield did the parts come from? There was one on the Stratton building removed in 2013 or 2014. Other than that, there's 3 Thunderbolts left in Springfield and I'm trying to get one but the city is really not helping at all.

I believe this came from the Stratton building, however I am not completely sure since I am not the original owner. What I do know however is that the rain cap had a bullet hole through it. I hope that this information could help, sorry that I could not provide more. Good luck with obtaining the siren!

I figured it was from the Stratton building. It was removed sometime in late 2013 or early 2014. Nice job in getting it working. Thanks for the head ups. :)

The Springfield siren was purchased by the original owner to convert this siren into a single phase unit. This siren actually came from Manchester, GA with the exception of the blower motor and a few other miscellaneous parts. Most of the Springfield siren belongs to Trainsandsirens1 onARS and KZread.

Yeah. I know someone bought all of them in 2011. The one on the Stratton building remained until it was taken down in late 2013 or 2014. There are still 3 Thunderbolts left.

The problem is that the blower draws about 50 amps, while the two circuits in the garage can only supply 15 amps each. As for the belts, I just have to order them since I know which ones to buy.

While loud, I don't believe that it would break a window unless it was right next to it. When I ran the blower at ~80% power on New Years, the house shook and the windows vibrated, but nothing was damaged. I do wonder if it could break a glass, maybe I will try that out soon.

Actually, only the A1 Thunderbolts could have jailbars, and only the early ones. This is an A2 series, meaning that the blower is a bit smaller and there is no possibility of it having jailbars.

Unless the blower was swapped out, it will have an A1 series 6m blower. The Jailbar units were only produced in the A1 series so they would have the larger series A1 blower.
