Welcome to episode 123 of the Commander's Guild: "Toss a Token to Your Hellion". Every week I go to scryfall.com and randomly select a card, making a budget (under $100) commander deck around it and showcasing a gameplay video of the deck. This week I'm joined by Bilal, Shawn, and AngryCow.
This week's random card is Thromok the Insatiable (suggested by ADIDAS4DFWD on Reddit) and he's also the commander. Thromok is unique because his Devour trigger can grow exponentially. Basically, this means we just need to devour 7 creatures to get 49 power and be able to take players out from their starting life totals. This means we're running a ton of token generators and ways to benefit from having +1/+1 counters.
If you have suggestions for any future deck ideas (or want to request a specific card to build around), let me know in the comments. Hope you enjoy it!

Some suggestions from my current Thromok deck that also happen to be pretty budget aside from one. Starting with that 1 Thromok decks love doubling season both for his counters only needing 5 creatures to get 50 power and for that token generation. As for budget inclusions Fractal Harness is a monster of a card with your smaller devourers that get value in particular Mycoloth and for the big man himself, also would help lend value to All Will Be One. Speaking of which a far more budget friendly card that gets a similar result is Warstorm Surge and to a lesser degree Impact Tremors. Life and Limb and Kamahla Will do the inverse the first turning any saproling generators something I specced into more than the dragons and goblins into mana to easily get out Thromok and be consumed though I would keep an enchantment destruction in your hand in case of board wipes so you don't lose out on all your forests. The latter allowing you to turn your mana to on demand creatures to beat things or block, and in a desperate gamble as Thromok food if necessary. Finally fresh meat helps to quickly replenish Thromok feasting and to directly counter would be board wipes to your token legions just remember to resolve at the end of the turn after the wipe has settled as tokens do enter the grave before being removed to exile as a state based action/cleanup.

Those are some awesome suggestions, thank you! I always appreciate getting input from someone who actually plays the decks that I’m putting together because I don’t get the chance to play it a lot before recording the videos.

Yessss love Thromok. So cool to a new deck for them. May be building this! Any other non-budget upgrades you might recommend?

Good luck with the deck if you wind up building it, it’s a ton of fun to play! As for upgrades, other than Terror of the Peaks it might be worth including Tendershoot Dryad for the token production (plus it just wins the game if unchecked) and Last March of the Ents as additional card draw + free spells. Those are the two that come to mind right away but there’s probably some others I’m missing too. Honestly, though, the deck still functions pretty well if you choose to keep it budget.

Really cool concept as is Shawn's fight stompy deck. Do you happen to also have a list for their deck?

Thromok is a ton of fun! Usually I’m more of a Boros player but I do love me some big stompy bois.

Does the All will be one actually works here? It says one OR MORE tho…

It does still work in this scenario. It says “one or more” but then it also says it “deals that much damage” so it does as much damage as counters put on a permanent. It’s just worded weirdly.
