I don't usually buy games since downloading is simple, but this is the type of project I just have to put my money towards.

So I havent played the game at all but seen all your videos about it. It seems the main focus lies on the singel cell stadium right now, do you have plans to start implementing more complex organisms (vertebrates/mollusks/crabs/etc) in the forseeable future, or will the current state of the game be further polished to not have too many half baked ideas implemented at once?

The Microbe stage is probably going to be the primary focus for a long time. Its really not until the Multicellular stage comes out that the possibility of something as complex as a jellyfish becomes possible, and even then that's the late Multicellular stage. This game is notable if for nothing else than how patient one has to be with it, I remember when the cells were still hexagons, was really exciting when they got the membranes working. Kind of fitting that the game about evolution feels like it takes about as long as actual evolution to develop Basically, as far as I know you probably should expect probably the latter.

Wouldn't it be actually better to have the wiki content (at least the raw statistics blocks and things that are looked up a lot and/or fluctuate often - iE unlock conditions and synergies) generated at start-time from the actual game files instead of an external wiki maintained by someone who is - by design - always one version behind on updating?

Not sure what you mean by always one version behind. As long as someone is on top of it, the wiki content will be up to date when a release is created, and that’s when the wiki content is inserted into the game files.

The phrase was "developer wiki", and looking it up to confirm: they're referencing a wiki maintained by developers, so they very much can update the wiki before a release instead of after.

Idk man. I like games that are fun. You shying away from "gameifying" as if it was a bad thing, shows me that you guys don't have that focus in mind. Honestly the game is very impressive, but there are just too many menus, too many options, too much text. I wish you guys great luck, but focusing on wikis and continuously adding more and more features will not make this a very poular game. I belive that the focus of a game should be the gameplay and having to read chunks of text to even be able to understand what I'm doing definitely diverts that focus. But hey, maybe this game is just not intended for someone like me. I really like what you guys did with how the other organisms behave. Really impressive!

It's kinda like Oxygen Not Included, It's very fun but you need to read a lot of tooltips or watch tutorials to understand how the game works.

I’d say what’s fun about thrive is precisely in its simulatory aspects, the way I see it this way of simulating cellular evolution is fairly game-like already and progressing down a (player-designed) evolutionary path while all of your competitors also evolve using a version of the same systems is fairly compelling, especially if you have an interest in these sorts of subjects. I also think really firmly settling into a specific niche is pretty valuable for independently developed games, which is something ecology and games have in common funnily enough :V

As someone who has played dwarf fortress, I can confirm this is not the most obtuse game out there! Seriously though, I get it. It's just not a game for everyone.
