    I don't think it's that at all. They've never been very comfortable talking about their own music I've found. And what Alex said is true. No matter now much you loved the material when you first wrote it the recording process can be exhausting and quite honestly turn you off temporarily to it though I don't think that's the case with them at all. I spent 2 months tracking an album once and by the end I literally told people I hated it haha.

  • @droptozro

    I expected more of a commentary on the lyrics than the songs alone... this was like 95% commenting on the song creation and ~5% lyric explanation. There are a lot of seemingly contradictory lyrics between songs on this album without explanation... and that doesn't even count bringing in the past albums' lyrics. Also, why are you yelling in the Branch in the River verses? I like the tempo change but it makes no sense to be yelling like that in that song.

  • @twally125

    @twally125

    The lyrics seem pretty well laid out in the album with no contradiction. Be the best human possible without degrading others for being human too. Racism, religion, political views all of it are seemiy black and white to peopel and should be seen from "the grey." Easy peasy dude, let's all be humans together and enjoy the pleasant company as it comes with all differences.

    @@twally125 yeah but there's black and white promoted in Hold Up a light, Grey promoted in the Grey, and denial of black/white promoted in Beyond the Pines. Each in their context can make sense...together they are contradictory in message. More context is needed... The lyrics are vague. For example I found after talking with Dustin that The Grey is more directly about the Bible and homosexuality.

    @@thebear9474 nah... based on their latest release... while it is listenable, it sounded flat in comparison to their previous releases... as if lack of inspiration... so watching this interview... it confirms my assumption. But hey man im not angry, just disapointed. Im still going to listen to their new album though.
