Three Reasons Why a Washing Machine Overflows

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This uses a Kenmore, but washers are all similar. Diagnose water pressure sensor/switch, water intake valve and air hose. Very easy to diagnose and repair.

    Awesome video and explanation. Turned out my air pressure valve hose was clogged near the bottom of the drum causing the fill cycle to not stop. Once I blew in that hose and didn’t get any airflow I had the culprit. Saved me a lot of time and money. Thanks!

    @@DougBrownVancouver I had changed the couplers and didn't realize I had crimped that clear pressure tube. So the water kept filling and wouldn't stop. I took the opportunity to go ahead and change out the water fill valves since the cold water came out super slow & I'd been too lazy to install the part when I got it lol.

    On the off chance anyone will read this, know the answer and respond…here goes: my Kenmore elite washer (1999 direct drive) is working fine save for one HUGE issue. At the tail end of every wash cycle, when the time gets to the last number of minutes (I.e. right before drain and rinse cycle), the washer suddenly starts filling with water, and overflows unfortunately (sheetrock, baseboard repairs, damaged cabinetry…what a disaster). I do not want to give up this beloved machine and know there MUST be a fix for this somewhere. Tubing and pressure switch are fine. Machine fills to proper levels at exact same place every load. It is ONLY overfilling at this same point every cycle. We have been unable to find an answer on internet yet. SOS! Help? Ideas? Advice? Many thanks!

    The same thing was happing with my LG washer. I replaced the water inlet manifold and it still kept doing it. I finally replaced the air pressure switch and have not had a problem since. I inspected the old switch and when I shook it, it would have an internal rattle that new switch did not make. I bought it off of Amazon for $20. Can't go wrong with that price.

    Does there have to be clothes in the washer for the pressure switch to work correctly?

  • @DougBrownVancouver

    @DougBrownVancouver

    5 ай бұрын

    Hi, not at all. The pressure is entirely from the water level, so the only impact from clothes is that the tub fills more quickly and the pressure switch also turns off more quickly.

    Thank you so much. This was the best explanation on the internet. I have checked all the switchs, valves and level sensor. All they are is ok but it still keep filling even i blow the sensor and hear the click noise while machine is running. Then should i check the motherboard? What is your thoughts?

  • @DougBrownVancouver

    @DougBrownVancouver

    Hmmm, did you diagnose the problem eventually? I'm guessing the air sensor was faulty, and didn't transmit a signal to the valve.

    @@DougBrownVancouveryep same problem here? Continuity check out good on the switch one Wire normally open one while normally closed if I blow in the tube, the water shuts off, but when connected to the tub, it will overflow.

  • @DougBrownVancouver

    @DougBrownVancouver

    Hi, late reply. I think it's the water pressure valve. Sounds like the cold side valve works fine and the hot valve does not. I'm sure you've fixed this by now, but if you have a multimeter you could have done the test I showed. What did you do in the end?

  • @victoriaphoenix4999

  • @DougBrownVancouver

    If it's not filling then it's likely the "lid switch" and I have a video on that. There are lots of others too.

    Hi, it would appear to be a failing valve. Just Google the specific machine model off the sticker with "water level switch replacement part" and a couple of sites will pop up. Here's one from Canada:www.partselect.ca/PS3408119-Whirlpool-W10337781-Water-Level-Switch.htm It's super easy to replace the switch and I think you can see it from my video.

    Are you a biker from West Van or West Virginia etc? If you're in Vancouver you can go online to www.Reliableparts.com and put in your model # etc. If you're in the US or somewhere, google something "washer parts model ABC-123" and you'll see a bunch parts websites including Amazon. Amazon has the market locked up, but there are still lots of independent sites that you can support. I've used both www.partselect.com or www.repairclinic.com and they have great parts diagrams and DIY videos.
