Brandon Victor Dixon is AMAZING! He was the STAR! He should have won the Emmy! He is soooo talented!!❤❤
In the 1970th I saw the film, bought the LP´s, but this modern interpretation shows, how modern this music still is. Love it!
Ted Neely will always be the g.o.a.t ,but this is pretty good also
I'm so in love with Brandon Victor Dixon 😍😍😍
Only metal singers can come close, no musical singers. But the real ones, the original cast, stay forever number 1❤
I love this version and Sara Bareilles - pure talent and hardworking ❤ Please stream more full versions and live musicals 🥰

Nothing beats the movie
While not my absolute favorite Judas, Brandon Victor Dixon is fantastic and very underrated. Glad to finally see the proshot for Heaven on Their Minds. Also, that run at 3:48, whew

Yeah he has a hella good voice. The performance misses the white fringes, tho. They should have rigged up a big star for him to ride down on, and the iconic fringed jacket for Judas and the angel choir.

No gethseneme or damned for all time 😮
I loved this performance !
Tim minchin is great in the movie, but man Brandon victor dixon slays as Judas I loved his outfits, and his singing
Love this version of superstar
An amazing contribution!!!
Amazing musical
Excellent. Solid performances & production.
Watched the full show last year in German / French ARTE TV. Outrageous performance.👍
This was *such* a great production.
Jesus Christ Superstar is told from the viewpoint of Judas so it is appropriate that the majority of the songs in this video focus on Judas.

And Dixon is a fabulous Judas
Dixon does a great job with this. He's one of the best Judas' I've seen, I think after Ian Gillam.

Ian Gillan played the Jesus role, not Judas...
Im sorry but Ted Neely will always be Jesus. He brought the character to life and he still has played the part 4 years ago if i remember. He is so humble and isnt playing Jesus for money he does it for the love he has for the part x
Yvonne Elliman and Mel C are the two best Mary.
The man just blew me away.
So beautiful... it made me weep.
Good, but I’m a Carl Anderson fan.

BVD has a great voice but CA is the OG of this role. All subsequent casts have overacted and over sang the pieces. The original is sublime and powerful. And John Legend strained a bit at the high notes, losing power and impact.
Ben Forster and Tim minchin will forever be the best

The set and outfits look fantastic, but I just cant get into the songs like I can when Tim Minchin delivers them. Brandon has an amazing voice that I would listen to in other things though!
Still not sure why he says “cheddar at 8:08, and still low-key don’t care why, since he follows it up with the hardest bar in the entire play and absolutely kills it.
Shoutout Micaela Diamond, who I think was about 18 here. (And Sara's understudy.)
where is our john legend gethsemaneeeee?????

Yeah, never thought of that.
I consider the adaptation directed by Gale Edwards with Glenn Carter as Jesus, Jérôme Pradon as Judas, Reneé Castle as Mary Magdalene, and Rik Mayall as Herod to be the best.

@codrutcroitoru

That was a good version, except for Glenn Carter who was not a good choice for singing the Jesus role, in my opinion.
Legend as Jesus is so wrong...
Sara Barellies did a fantastic job - im gonna have to side by side compare with Mel C to determine which is my favorite. John Legend here may be my absolute favorite jesus. Brandon Victor Dixon is a really good Judas, however Carl Anderson remains my favorite Judas yet. Imagine John Legend, Mel C and Carl Anderson in the same cast…. That would be something.

He's not bad...but, he's not Tim.
The direction is fighting with the staging. Should have picked one camera and let the play do the work.
I hate this crowd, shut up and let them sing. Cheer and applaud AFTER the song ends, never during
The real star of this show is the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.

@@Donillini Oh, OK
Okay wow.. a couple of things. Feel like I can post my full feelings since this post is so old no one will probably ever see it. 1) I saw Jesus Christ Superstar (the original) at a very young age. I would guess 12? I am in my late 40s now, so.. Anyway. It had a huge impact on me as I became a Christian and a musician. 2) I just recently started trying to find modern reboots of this amazing movie because I was curious if modern day performers had tried to match the incredible singing of the originals or if they had tried to "make it their own". Sadly, most of them did try to change the song and, while this is my own opinion, all fell short, although all sang very well. It just did not have the emotion Ted Neeley, Carl Anderson, and Yvonne Eliman had. 3) lastly, I was BLOWN away to see Sarah Bareilless cast as Mary in one of the productions. I am a HUGE fan of Sarah as a performer/singer/songwriter/pianist. She is literally someone whose songs take up a good 20% of my phone memory. I literally adore her. However, I am not a fan of her political beliefs and I was really surprised she took part in a Christian type opera/play. I always assumed she was either an Athiest or Agnostic. If anyone who ACTUALLY knows her could clarify? I would appreciate it. 4) Okay lastly actual lastly, final comments. I really appreciate this movie is still being done. I do. It's important to me that it survives and evolves. All the players and actors that participate are talented as he'll. You all deserve accolades and praise. HOWEVER.. none of you will ever send shivers down my soul like Neely and Anderson did. The raw emotion they sang with is not something that can be replicated in this day and age of non believers. I appreciate and applaud the attempt though😂

Not bad but Carl Anderson and Ted Neeley will FOREVER be the best, no one has every come close.

have to admit carl anderson and ted neeley studied their roles and became their role. neeley had the humbleness and intellect of jesus. while Anderson got the emotions of Judas down and I have not seen anyone else be equals in how they portrayed them. Though Tim Minchin was a very close second for Jedus.

They’re the crowds of followers
Why do they have Dixon change the notes and melodies in every song? The choices are all worse.
Bro said three powerful songs and didn’t have gethsemane in there
11:55 that "gone" should be a powerful note, but Legend isn't trained for the stage, and his delivery loses all power. He tries to go high and tops out... it's a weird choice. He should have compromised with a lower note, and more power, IMO. He's a decent singer, but it doesn't come across as effortless as Brielles and Dixon. There's always a danger of putting untrained (for musicals) singers alongside trained. Legend is a beautiful singer in his own work, but he's a crooner. JCS needs a belter, and though it's clear he practised and knows the songs well, he just lacks the power needed to give these songs punch.
And Sara Bareilles 😡
Live arena tour 2012 better.
God I the crowd in this pisses me off. Do they have to cheer after every long note? And they clap on 1-3.
I didn't like this at all. The essence of every song in that show is risk. Every singer takes risk at every moment with every word and every note. Eliminate that risk and you eliminate the stakes for the whole show and every character. Not a single singer here took a risk -- not with emotion, phrasing, or even the notes themselves. I've never seen a professional cover played so safe.
John legend is NOT the star here
I’m sorry but John Legend is not a good Jesus
hated john legend as jesus to be honest. to smug and full of himself. that isn't how they wrote jesus for the musical. he put an off taste in my mouth....
John was very miscast.
