Threatened SNP Westminster seats prompts Humza Yousaf u-turn panic

“His party was indeed, under threat in terms of its Westminster position…Voters now perceive that the SNP has being divided.”
Humza Yousaf’s decision to withdraw from the SNP’s power-sharing deal with the Scottish Greens may have been influenced by fears of losing seats in Westminster in the general election, says Professor Sir John Curtice.

@@jasalexander-hain2601 The SNP is virtually bankrupt - it can't afford to put a candidate in each constituency unless the candidate shells out too. Alba is the only party which, in the long term (10-20 years) can drive towards Independence as long as it avoids the very poor fiscal controls and vanity projects of the SNP - Scotland currently has a £ 20 BILLION debt, no real export infrastructure, very poor internal market and infrastructure. If Scotland were to go Independent tomorrow, the Scottish Pound would tank immediately, inflation would be beyond 20 % within a month, the value of peoples houses would crash - that may not be at the front of the younger scots generations concerns, but it would be for the bank of Mum & Dad.

The hate crime act was passed back when he was failing as justice secretary. He didn’t come up with this. It’s the SNP in general that’s the issue. The law was never about Islam. It’s about the government silencing critics. Muslims are actually far more willing to stand up against perverted gender ideology than many native Scots are. Humza’s a subby who was in the right place at the right time. He’s failed in every government job he’s had. Smugness and slogans are no substitute for a backbone. His “white white white” speech has forever been etched in people’s minds because his hatred was on full display. The hate crime act appeals to weak, emotionally fragile babies who need to be looked after. People who lack backbone, grit, resiliency, maturity, nuance, or understanding. Corrupt individuals are using it to settle personal scores

When i was in my teens and 20s and maybe even into my early 30s, I was SNP, pro independence and anti-union, wanted to join the SNP at 16/17. However, I started to question how an independent Scotland would survive financially and politically in a world of larger and more established countries. What turned me against the whole idea in the end was Alex Salmond and his vision of an Independent Scotland keeping the Scottish Sterling Pound and the Queen as head of state which sounded ridiculous (I am a Monarchist so no offence to Her Late Majesty). The absolute hypocrisy of this was sickening. I would like to see a safe and secure Scotland left for generations to come, not an impotent nation that is turned into an effective Disneyland country and therefore I am all for Scotland remaining within the Union..

I started off same as you. I think being locked down for so long gave me time to take a closer look at the SNP and Scottish politics in general. The SNP deflect any and all criticism as “far right” or “political games”. Our nation isn’t equipped to leave the union. We’d be a 3rd world country. Bye bye Westminster and hello Brussels. Out of the frying pan and into the fire. Most of “our” land is owned by rich foreigners, as are most of our resources. Drug deaths are the highest in Europe. It’s just such a hopeless place. I’m currently visiting Budapest and it’s so beautiful by comparison, just from walking around. Strange analogy but….You remember in Cobra Kai when the bullied outcasts had a surge of confidence and then unwittingly found themselves becoming bullies themselves without realising it? That’s the SNP. First Sturgeon breaches the ministerial code, files false sexual harassment charges against Salmond, and now is involved in an embezzlement scam. They’re petty crooks

im Scottish and when the SNP talk about independence lately they bring up that they would join the EU straight after independence but the EU require that you have a stable economy which we wouldn't after independence because England will cut us off and we would end up in a ton of debt from borrowing and it would take about a decade to fix our economy after England stops funding us after we leave the union... Scotland get block grant funding for the Scottish Government from Westminster and is the highest since devolution began and is £41 billion a year for 2022-2025 but the SNP never mention it... So if we gain independence we lose 41 billion a year in funding, So say goodbye to NHS because we would have no money to spend on NHS, Police and Education... also remember that when we are independent any children born after independence will need a passport to go to the rest of the UK... Plus everyone should know the moment we vote to leave the union, Westminster will cut off all trade and funding as well as adding a border which would eventually annoy the English and Scottish... there isn't gonna be no Northern Ireland style border agreement because Westminster want us to fail... i support the SNP but not in its current state...

My 2 Muslim friends told me that the Muslim community don’t stand with Humza either because he doesn’t represent their interests (let alone the rest of Scotland’s) and he doesn’t stand by his religious principles. Basically he was asked about gay marriage and he cowtowed, which turned the Muslim community against him. The ground is shrinking beneath his feet but he’s too smug and bitter to honestly self reflect and attempt to learn

There are many things which will stop Independence - most of them are a result of 15+ years of SNP mismanagement but the main one is the £ 20 + BILLION budget deficit the SNP has created. Even though the Barnett Formula delivers around £30 to £35 BILLION annually; Income Tax £ 12 BILLION; VAT & Corporate Tax £ 10 BILLION +++ others.

The Edinburgh parliament has only limited powers, restricted to Scotland. Let’s try to understand this as a sports metaphor. Westminster FC are claiming they could be league leaders if only: The guy in the pie & Bovril stand in the north terraces (Holyrood) would perform or It’s the referee's fault (EU) or the visiting fans (Refugees & asylum seekers). Would you be so sanguine if these were the excuses of your team.

I'm not convinced all the SNP MSP's will support Humza. They are idealists - the name of the game is Scottish independence and Humza is not helping. He's a liability, they really want to be going into both Scottish and Westminster elections with Kate at the helm and ideally she needs to have been there for a while to demonstrate just how good she is. She would have been the leader had not Nicola been gerrymandering behind the scenes anyway. She can't vote against him but I have no doubt that there are idealist MSP's who will take the bullet to advance the independence cause. Going to be very interesting, he's got to go the only question is would the SNP be better off ditching him now or not?
