I have an old tapping head never used it. Will have to give it a try. Nice to see you are still making videos for us. This one was 11 years ago!

I'm one of the few who are interested in seeing you use the Enco tapping head you mentioned in the video in a demonstration. Thanks so much for all of the instruction. My dad's an engineer and I worked as a marine technician but I am still a "neophyte". I really appreciate the time you have invested. Where I live there is only one machine shop at the local steel distributor.I do everything else myself. I have just recently acquired a Southbend 16" lathe.

Informative and also timely... I just used my new tap head for the first time and had a little trouble, since there wasn't any instructions with it. But I worked it out and love it.

Great demo! When the impulse strikes I for one would be eager to see a larger threader, say 1/4 inch or above. Love your videos!

These are indeed a godsend when making anything with hundreds of threaded holes in it.The only problem is unless you can pick these up second hand they are a frightening amount of money to buy new.I settle with tapping holes on the mill and using the spindle reverse switch,ok if your not careful you can snap a tap off in a blind hole, but if you leave plenty of spare depth to the holes you will be fine,we had a tapping head at work in dusty corner,it never got used as we used the mill.

Many many thanks for all these video's I am very much enjoying work my way through these. I particualy enjoy your style of presentation. How about a video on setting up and using an offset boring head in the mill I am a bit uneasy about using mine until I fully uderstand the correct method of set up and usage. Thanks again, Roger From New zealand.

I also like Tapmatic. They are great!! But I also have a procunier. Also, you can use spiral taps.

Very nice tool. I've power tapped on the DP some, just flipping on the switch momentarily until it taps thru, then reversing by hand rotating the chuck backwards. This is so much faster. But I am a little surprised you can do this without needing to clamp the work.

man i wish they would have told me that you could set the depth on the drill press and it would automatically reverse. in my internship i had to do this tapping on the drillpress quite a lot and i was always a little nervous around it because i had already broken a €40 tap and i noticed that the head wouldnt reverse directly when i stopped feeding it. and sometimes would slip through the plate and pull it out of the vice. but now i know this trick and i will try it out at my first chance. thanks

    4oo RPM

@Xnaron 400 rpm. You are attempting to tap too deep a hole. You gain no strength-just tap 1/4 deep. Relieve the holes from the back side with a 3/16 drill. Then tap. You need no more thread than a hex nut of the size you are tapping. Try this on a scrap. pete

I actually got the southbend for free. Gonna have to do some work to it but it's worth it. The main spindle/cone pulley cover is cracked. Any tips or where to get one cheap would be appreciated. Thanks so much again.

Hi, I have a procunier and I am trying to tap 3/4" thick aluminum (#10-24). Should I be trying to tap the hole all the way down in one motion or should I be backing it in and out? I am finding the tap seizes up on me if I try and do it in one motion. I am using tap lube and the correct tap. I am using a 1/2hp floor stand drill press. What RPM should the drill press be set to? Thanks for any tips!

Question; I picked up a drill press (Canedy-Otto, 1940~1950s vintage) at an auction with a Procunier E 3 tapping head on it. (Both larger than I would have liked for my garage shop.) My question concerns the reverse feature. You used the drill press stop - is that the only way to set the depth? For the 3 times I used mine it seemed that if I just changed the downward drill press pressure to a little upward it would reverse. Also, if one were tapping into a non-through hole would it reverse when the tap hit the bottom of the hole??

Does any one know what type of tapping had has a reduction gear? A while ago I was watching tapping videos on youtube and seen one tapping head that had a reduction gear that slowed the rotation speed of the tap. Now I can't find that video and don't remember what brand it was, does any one know?
