Tapmatic 30X Self-Reversing Tapping Head

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

#Tapmatic
In this video knife maker Gillian, introduces the Tapmatic 30x. The Tapmatic 30X is essential for the full time knife maker, who specialized in folding knives. One of the greatest tools for making knives, the Tapmatic 30X makes it easy to tap tiny screws. The Tapmatic features a Self-reversing tapping head, that can be used in a standard drill press. Tapmatic.com is a great resource to determine tapping feeds and speeds for tapping different sized taps, in different types of materials. Gillian demonstrates the Tapmatic 30x on a #2-56 screw; showing how to tap tiny screws, by first drilling the correct size hole, chamfering the hole, and then how to setup and use the Tapmatic 30x to quickly tap the hole.

    @@lucasgumbiner8673Hey Lucas I have not use the tapmatic on a blind hole, for the blind holes I use a single point thread mill. Before I could thread mill, I used a hand tapping station from micotools.com, with a starting tap, followed by a bottoming tap.

    For anyone watching this nice video, PLEASE NEVER HOLD ANYTHING WITH YOUR HAND WHILE USING A DRILL PRESS...ANYTHING. use a clamp, unless you don't mind a broken or missing hand.

    Tap-matic is expensive, but definitely worth it. I have never regret spending money for it. It still makes me smile, when you perfectly tap holes. The only way it could be better is to attach it to a burgmaster.

    No references to the importance of setting the torque clutch. This stops Taps from breaking in blind holes, or hard materials.

    May help if you make a finger hold down. In a vee shape it will help stop lift of the thin metal and will still allow quick tapping . Only has to stop lift so loose is ok . Just what I do for tapping lots of holes. Good luck and thanks

    Thanks for the feedback Silverbullet. I’ll definitely consider the finger hold down. Eventually I hope to have a few drill presses permanently setup for various operations, with the tapmatic in one of them, so I’m not loosing so much time with setup, and tear down.

    What range if taps does it work with?

  • @GillianKnives

    @GillianKnives

    Thats a great question that I don't have the answer for. I have two different collet sizes for my model 30x, with those two collets (I did not show the collets in the video btw), I know it can tap #80-00, #1-72, #2-56, and #4-40. But I don't know the full extent (read: range) of what it is capable of tapping. As for the #4-40 they break more often that the other sizes. I don't know if that is the limit of the tool, or if my clutch is just incorrectly adjusted. As for the different collet sizes, they are now difficult to find, that increases the range of the tool.

    If you tap any holes much larger you better make sure that the workpiece cannot come up off the table during tap withdrawal or all hell breaks loose along with your tap.
