    Bullshit.. If you've ever done press, you know that there is a seriously limited amount of time to address all these artists, and have everyone answer the same question. They need to get some questions in and get to the point. If you just want actors talking, there are plenty of other channels for that. This is HR Roundtable, so it is exactly that, a round table with several people who all need to be addressed within a certain amount of time. Every minute that goes by money is being spent, they need to move on to the next segment. There's nothing wrong with Galloway, which is why he hosts every single one of these. He knows how to revel in a nice moment, but then also to cut it off and move on.

  • @learntospellpeople

    @learntospellpeople

    7 жыл бұрын

    What exactly are you calling bullshit on? And there's a lot wrong with Galloway, as plenty of people have pointed again and again over the years; his habit of interrupting people is deeply unprofessional not to mention rude and pointless. Why ask questions in the first place if you cut people off at the punchline. There's no enjoyment for a lot of us, when someone (usually an experienced storyteller) has to move on/let an interesting story or anecdote drop just when it was getting to the end point. If he wasnt executive editor, he would have been taken off the roundtables long ago (viewers have been complaining his inexplicably bad manners since almost the beginning of these roundtables), which he seems least suited for. Something sometime moderator Stacy Snider is excellent, imo. _She_ managed to let the participants answer questions _and_ move on to the next thing without rushing anyone or being an interrupting ass.

    Garfield is right in the beginning. The unseen and underrated privilege these people get is that they are given countless opportunities to learn amazing things from world class experts- theology, psychology, carpentry, flying helicopters, swordfighting, martial arts, painting, race car driving, and the list goes on. Not to mention getting dietitians, cosmetologists, and personal trainers to optimize their health, appearance, and physical fitness.

    I was totally into the Hal Ashby story - and thinking "I hope this never ends and they let Jeff riff for the rest of the hour" - and then Galloway predictably throws a wet blanket on it by pestering Jeff with one of his inane, tabloid-y factoids about filmmakers. Gallowanker needs to find another job. Even Jimmy Fallon is a less obnoxious interviewer. I've gotta say though, Charlie Rose does the same interrupting shit Galloway does, but almost never gets called on it. Rose is such a respected institution that people are afraid to criticize Rose's overrated ass.

    52:30 is such a lovely moment. Andrew and Dev revelling in the beauty of "Moonlight" right across from Mahershala. Overall this is just one of the warmest groups of actors I've seen from THR's roundtables. At least in my opinion. From referring to each other's comments, to addressing each other and each other's films directly, to the shared reverence towards Jeff and his endearingly open reaction to that, it was a joy to watch this. I even think Galloway did well on this one, at least in comparison to other times. And I know that's not saying much because it's been quite awful before, but he let things flow more often than not. I know next to nothing about acting, yet I keep coming back to these conversations, and this is certainly a favourite now. So, thanks, THR! (And thank you for getting Dev and Andrew to sit together, I'm in love wow)

    I disagree. One of the purposes of having the interviewer present is to be a moderator. He allows everyone to share in the experience, instead of having someone or a few overpowering the conversation, which will happen due to there inherently being some stronger or more aggressive personalities, as well as there being a limited amount of time for all to take part. I think he does a great job in making sure everyone is sharing in the experience, and no one is getting lost in the background.

    Brilliant. Mahershala Ali was breathtaking. Dev Patel and Andrew Garfield are gorgeous, I’ve never seen people listen so beautiful.

    These actors have a profound respect for one another's work and they are engaged and enlightened by each other's answers. Great roundtable!

    i came here because of dev patel but i'm glad i discovered how brilliant Casey Affleck is. i usually dislike the showbiz, gossip and this aspect of Hollywood but he's got a wonderful dialectic.

    I love that Stephen Galloway asked them about what the people in the roundtable were doing to help the world in some way. By saying that, he's moving the conversation away from just words and he's involving concrete action into it.
