I thought that i only noticed it.

Growing up my mum had one pair of boots. Every 5/6 years she’d take them to the cobblers on the corner to be re-soled. The uppers only ever got better with age. She’d polish them, and keep them stuffed with news paper over night , wear them through, and then get them re-soled again. I have them now since we had the same size feet. I had to get insoles fitted that moulded to the shape of my feet since she’d worn in a perfect grove to match hers. I like walking in her foot steps adding to the journey she started in those boots. They’ve carried us amazing places. I’m sure they’ll out-last me, too!

I didn't expect to spend 26 minutes on a Friday night watching an excellent craftsman make a pair of hiking boots, but color me impressed. So much goes into making these in mass production, and way more goes into hand making them. The old Myungsung is a beast, and the Toyota was cool too. I know they made machinery, heavy equipment, and a lot of motor products, but not sewing machines. I've never seen one in the USA.

You should watch the whole video. It’s absolutely amazing the time and care put into these boots. The old Toyota sewing machine and the older sewing machine are gems. This is an old school craft this man probably learned in his youth. There’s no words but definitely a great story behind his craft.

In other words a waste of time machines do better..

Custom made boots and they still make them narrower than the foot and with a heel. Getting wide toe box barefoot hiking boots (and other shoes) was the best decision I’ve made for my feet. The work that goes into those is still impressive though.

The attention to detail this man is putting into these boots is just amazing. They look incredibly comfortable and serviceable.

Craftsmen, there were different men doing each step but still amazing

First I draw around the person's foot. Then I nail that drawing to a generic model foot and cut off the bits that represent the person's actual foot shape, leaving me with the shape of the generic model instead. I love it. Great parody video!

I’m just curious- why do the foot measurement and make a mold just to make a regular narrow toe box last? Why not make the boot to width of the person’s actual foot? I would think that would be more comfortable and beneficial for hiking.

Yeah I was confused about that too, plus he also seemed to have shaved the arch so now that person’s natural flat-ish foot is going to be stuck with a giant arch support, which probably wouldn’t be comfortable (I’m not sure though since I have a naturally high arch and need a lot of support there).

I can’t imagine how comfortable those boots are to wear! Heavenly

@@ChevyConQuesoNot any new boot. They should be very comfortable in the beginning, it's crazy that your feet should have to endure too small shoes. This is beautiful craftsmanship, however imo the toe box is too narrow for his feet.

@@b4ptistnope its the same wrong tradition pass down. You need wide anatomic shoe in order for the foot to fonction properly. If you research “barefoot shoe” you’ll understand.

I think most people are used to squished toes so it's a standard though these are quite wide anyway. And the form was made only for the insole to be perfect, then he adjusted the last on the sides to match it with the paper tracing and measurements he took. It's also quite brilliant how he added this super simple sole for the testing 👌

I just love nice handmade stuff that's really good, it's nearly like it has its own soul.
