Thought Brings Mediocrity | Video Archive | Barry Long

A key aspect to Barry Long's teaching is the stillness of mind. In this clip Barry makes it clear that there are huge benefits to creativity from not thinking. He refers to 'me' as the place where ideas come from and this is the still place within the listener/reader, which is of course inside your own body.
Barry Long was a spiritual teacher who taught internationally from the 1980's up until his death in 2003. His spiritual teaching is grounded in practicality and addresses all aspects of modern day life.

Thanks for uploading. I can definitely see that not having an inner dialogue would be useful sometimes. That's certainly a stillness of mind for me.

I do like the short videos coming out, but I fear they can easily gloss over the purpose of Barry’s teaching. I wish that people who followed and lived his teaching came out and made a channel. We need to speak of the truth to mankind more than ever.

There is a project in progress to make available all of Barry's archive, comprising of a huge collection of audios and videos of his public talks from the early 80's onwards. The platform is being built currently. Short pieces are intended to deliver important teaching points and inspire viewers to see Barry Long as a valuable, and deep, source of truth.

It's not the truth because it is in you - the shadow is also in us. The truth is the light of consciousness which yes is not mind. Thoughts are generally a regurgitation of the past. Sometimes an 'inspiration' can manifest as a thought which I think is what he is getting at. A thought is just a thought, but when deeply felt it can be experienced as a dark or light 'reality'.

You didn’t understand what he said, which is why you are not in touch with the genius inside of you.

Human thought, concepts, and mental structures tend to be the opposite of true knowledge, except in rare cases where the mind has been informed by deeper knowledge. The person with such deeper knowledge would likely have surrendered their thoughts and concepts to obtain such knowledge. Such surrender allows the individual to descend deeper within and connect with something more real. This typically is not a quick process.

It comes down to word definitions. He's trying to convey an idea, and has his own definitions of words that he uses. When heard initially in isolation as a soundbite, it can be hard to grasp the idea of what is being conveyed. Barry was a man of vast knowledge and was certainly not ridiculous. That said, not everyone will resonate with his teaching, and that's okay.
