My dear peeps, I am sorry for not being here with you but I haven't been doing too well. My blood pressure has been all over the charts. I do believe it has been the cause of my fall earlier this month. Matter of fact I believe I had fainted because I was unaware that I had fallen until I was picking myself up off the floor. I will be contacting my doctor about this. I do hope that you all are doing good. I have missed you all so much. Please forgive me for not being here. I love each one of you so very much. Thank you Arroz for letting us love those monkey's and not charging us for it. I understand that it costs money to feed them and treat them well but you don't beg or not let us see everything if we can't pay a ransom for it. So thank you!!!!!

Hello everyone. I'm so glad i found AMs channels. I binged watched the other forever...lol and find out this channel is up. I am so in love with these beautiful creations of God. I also love each one of you. Your insights, right, wrong, or indifferent; has helped me learn so much about these primates. Still learning so don't get upset if i ask a million and one questions. So disrespectful to Mother Nature 😢 I think, I may be wrong, that Teeny will always have the baby face about her. I've often wondered if not for the pandemic, AM talking with the regular dedicated feeders, would Teeny have survived? She is such a cutie.

Grady has been growing and we know how brave and adept he is in the trees. It seems as if when he gets older he would be a good candidate as an alpha. Will the fact that Ridgy is low ranking keep that from happening? Which would mean he’ll be kicked out and have to join a bachelor group?

Females maintain stable dominance ranks within their natal groups throughout their lives, whereas males lose their original rank when they leave their natal group at puberty and acquire a new rank when they join a new group. Males are outed at the time of puberty. Barry situation is not typical. Young males receive increasing amounts of aggression from both adult males and females especially when they attempt to mate with females from their natal troop. Female macaques are not sexually attracted to males they know well (friends or family). This aggression and lack of opportunity to mate results in emigration. Young males might just leave because of being sexually attracted to females from other troops. Thus, they are not always driven out. Resident adult males also often leave the troop and join a new troop after ~ 4 years. This occurs because females get sick of mating with the same males and eventually stop. This lack of mating opportunity eventually drives resident males to emigrate to another troop. Maybe this is one reason Taggy has mated with some of the females in Annie's troop? Once the young male or resident male leaves, he can live solo, join a bachelor troop, or join a new troop. So, when Grady is outed and joins a new troop, he will be lower ranking than the adult males in the group. He will need to work his way up the hierarchy by making alliances with powerful males and females. He will rise in rank through the formation of coalitions by allogrooming, fighting and defending members in this coalition. To be alpha, a male will need to be dominant, aggressive, and able to make alliances. Being big and strong is important but not everything, look at Wilde. He is lanky, not big like Skull Head. Keep in mind, the alpha male is the most dominant macaque in the troop even over the matriarch. Dopey is a good example of a young male's journey that has been filmed. He first joined a bachelor's troop, worked his way up in ranking then joined Skull Heads troop. Buddy, Knotty, Knitty and Dopey all have been accepted into Skull Heads troop. I believe these young boys have formed a coalition. They now will be seen grooming not just each other but the females and males of Skull Heads troop in order to form stronger alliances. Dopey is the most dominant and aggressive of these boys but not very big. Macaques historically like Dopey and he forms alliances easily. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. Grady and Georgy are both very dominant and aggressive males. Lol. Watching them strut about and shake trees is so funny. I think Georgy will be a very big male whereas Grady is a social butterfly. These two boys both have great potential to rise to the rank of an alpha one day. Ridgy's ranking has NO influence on Grady's opportunities to rise in ranking when he joins another troop. Vivy's ranking will be his ranking in Bossy's troop till he is outed.

Or it doesn’t necessarily trickle down… How smart they are not to be attracted to Males in their troop, protecting them from inner-breeding. In particular, closely related females, such as mothers and daughters or pairs of sisters, occupy adjacent positions in the dominance hierarchy. Mothers typically remain dominant over all of their daughters throughout their lives, while sisters rank in reverse order of their age, such that young females dominate their old sisters and a female’s youngest daughter typically is the most dominant of her female offspring (Chikazawa et al. 1979). The hierarchical relationships between individuals and between matrilines are ultimately determined by the mechanisms through which dominance rank is transmitted across generations. These transmission mechanisms are not genetic, but social, and involve agonistic support given by mothers to their offspring (e.g., Bernstein and Williams 1983; Bernstein and Ehardt 1986; Datta 1986). Natal males acquire ranks from their mothers just as females do. Mothers consistently intervene on behalf of their immature offspring when offspring get into fights with other group members. When pairs of juveniles fight, the mothers of both juveniles intervene to support their offspring, and the outcome of the fight is ultimately determined by the relative ranks of the mothers. Since this process is repeated many times and with different individuals, offspring eventually acquire a dominance rank just below that of their mother (Datta 1986).

@@PamPreston78 Also Ridgy was a low to mid-ranking macaque before Grandee became alpha. Once he became alpha her rank temporarily increased because he favored her. When Grandee was outed, Ridgy dropped back down to her more or less original ranking. In theory Vivy would be ranked below her mother and Grady would be ranked below Vivy until he is outed. Once outed it is then all up to Grady to fight for his ranking as already described.

Reddy has had 10 offspring that I know of. Berti, Bobby, male (died), female (died), Dopey, Dimpy, Dipsy, Dinky, Deenly, Dipidy.
