    Arroz- I must say your work as a director, producer, editor, and story teller is a gift! You do such incredible work! Your story telling is smooth, tasteful, and makes sense. You observe and report, never have you tried to make your own story by causing issues, like stereotypical “VO’s”. Granted those sick individuals are in other countries. I greatly appreciate your hard work and dedication to not only these beautiful primates, but us as the viewers! Thank you! I appreciate all of your hard work!

    Well, the comments certainly demonstrate how much we all care about these animals and appreciate the time Mr. AM takes to film, edit and share them with us. And how some of these little ones manage to touch a special place in our hearts due to their appearance and behaviors. Or, maybe, they garner the VO’s attention and we see more of that one than others. That being said, I for one, appreciate all of the comments, there are some very good points in them that I need to remember myself. Thank you all 😊

    Yes I to remember Scooby and his hoots!! I do recall a similar LT baby Macaque in one of the Cambodian videos who did the same thing, kept on hooting and was disciplined by an adult; I suspect that happened to Scooby, and sadly either fell from a tree, or was run over by a car. Some years ago AM did some analysis based upon the babies that were lost in the troupe that he videos. IIRC it was some 20% of babies die in the first 6 months from accidents, malnutrition or an infection. this increases to 32% after 6 months as the babies get more independent from their mothers. However, fatal falls and also road kill are high on the list.

    Betsy was such a lil beauty. Really miss babies when their lives are cut so short needlessly. Humans messing up these females by taking away their need to have their very own baby while watching other moms with their babies. For some the desire is so emotionally too much for them and the only one to blame for them kidnapping a baby and they die because they have no milk to feed the baby is the ones who took away their right to be a mom.

  • @hollisblinn7910
    @hollisblinn7910 Жыл бұрын

    Dy has always been a bully and a baby thief. Because of her size and status she gets away with it. Some of these females would've been better off euthanized rather than sterilized. Dy, Dorothy and Bo have all become baby killers, just to name a few. It infuriates me to see these tiny infants in such distress and to know what a horrific fate most of them suffer. Dehydration and starvation is a slow, painful death, not to mention the fear and longing they must feel to get back to their mothers. It's gut wrenching and heartbreaking to see it happening and knowing there's absolutely nothing you can do to intervene.😢

  • @solbri2758

    @solbri2758

    I agree but I feel that sometimes the mothers are not agressive enough towards the kidnapper or, they are to confident no one will take their babies. I also agree that Dy, Dorothy and Bo should be euthanized. They are just bad and dangerous. Not to mention that if Bossy is Dy's mother, why the hell isn't she doing anything to put that daughter of hers in her place? It's just sad. Not to mention that Bessy is just a stupid mother in my opinion. She doesn't deserve to have any more babies if she can't take care of them properly.

  • @hollisblinn7910

    @hollisblinn7910

    @@solbri2758 it seems as if Bossy has gotten too old to care what's going on around her. She'll still protect her own infants, but did she ever really do much to intervene on behalf of other mothers and their babies? Between the human interference of the sterilization program and the lack of leadership of some of the elder alphas, many of the troop dynamics are pretty unhealthy and unstable on the hill.

    could there have been a medical condition and they knew she wouldn't make it? animals usually know when something is wrong with their kids. maybe betsy wouldn't learn to eat the clay, and they knew without doing so she wouldn't make it. almost the same scenario as scooby with the crying. i really don't think bossy would have let that play out as long as it did without a reason. i have seen her step in numerous times when the kidnapping goes on for to long.

    I honestly don’t think that Bessy didn’t care about getting Betsy back, I could see it in her eyes that she was torn, hearing her baby girl’s cries and having to face Dy to get her back. Not even Bossy would square off with her.😳 I think something in Dy was different this time and she wasn’t going to acquiesce to Bessy politely or otherwise asking for her baby and sadly I believe Bessy knew it and just wasn’t up to the task of facing her sister and gradually she backed off in exasperation. I’m not sure what it is that is going on in Dy’s mind but she seemed different and detached and was just holding onto Betsy because she could not because she wanted to hold and cuddle her, which she didn’t do. If Bo is any indication that these sterilized females can undergo radical mind changes that severely alters their behavior. So sad to lose sweet little Betsy and I hope this doesn’t happen again with another baby.😔

    It doesn’t help that these babies are born with an instinct to cling, even to a kidnapper. They would rather cling to the kidnapper than be on their own. I’ve wondered many times why they don’t just let go and take off running, but they never do, they will keep clinging to whomever has them. Bessy is definitely too small to take on Dy, as Dy is quite large and stout looking for a female. Hopefully Bessy keeps a closer eye on her next one, as with Dorothy, when they learn they can do it and the mom isn’t going to challenge them, they will do it again with the next baby.

    Size never matters to a mother. I don't think l that was the problem. It appears that she may have suffered post partum. She just completely walked away. She sat close for a little while as the mother in her dictated but each week further away.. I don't know how little Betsy even made it that long with no milk. She had to be eating food and getting water bc she wasn't at all dehydrated through most of this. A lot of mothers shouldn't have children and monkeys are no exception. I've seen many that are rough and impatient with babies. Some even starve them to death. A full day and a baby looks a wreck and 2 days later is either on deaths door or dead from malnutrition. It's so sad about those. I have a fondness in my heart. She was on3 of the most beautiful babies. Seems like they sterilize the wrong ones. Those long for an infant and then there are those that have them thay don't know how or don't want to raise them.

    That is not true. Monkeys are generally precocious and noisy. They dont make good pet. Research shows that in more depostic troops lower ranking members have to come up with more strategies for getting food. And those strategies require a certain amount of being sneaky, clever and courage. Also as the infants grow they become more adept at escaping kidnappers something they need to learn. They cant learn thae being obedient, still and not making their moves against the kidnappers restraints. Kidnapping can lead to death and sometimes infants are kidnapped and held until starved but that may be due to inexperience of the mother not being able to retrieve the infant or intentional as a means of resource competition and population control. But that has to do with rank not the infants behavior.

None of the research I have ever read has placed the blame on precocious behavior of the infant. It was cooing all the time because it wanted its mother. That behavior is evolutionary. Also the cooing is considered affilatory in that it is used to attract the mother. That anyone thinks the infant was kill for precocious behavior says everything about how people get their education on these animals from the comment sections of channels.

Was it really just a kidnapping gone wrong? The Babies mom really didn't seem to terribly interested in the baby once she had been grabbed by Dy. There also didn't seem to be much attention whatsoever from the troop, And Dy didn't seem to taunt the mother with the infant. I guess I'm wondering why mom didn't try to get the baby back, And why none of the troop members attempted to try and help? It seemed like the mom and Dy were in agreement on the situation. I don't recall seeing any unusual behavior from the infant either, Just confusion as to why mom was ignoring her. Any ideas as to why this fate would befall little Betsy? @@scottbutkowski5803 Exactly it just happens. There can be multiple factors. But these females are highly attracted to infants the younger the more attractive they find them. Add to that that the female who took was sterilized. Ive seen several infants starve when the monkey could not retrieve them. Look at Helpo a male took him and he died because the mother was unablebto retrieve him. The following year he started to take Helpo's brother but at a month older. Being a month older the brother was better able at escaping the male. He did not escape being obedient and still. I watched a show on another species of macaques and they said these infants had to be a little cheeky brave and develop confidence in order to survive.

Monkeys Inc, who bought us the story of Charlotte and what happened to her. Then there is Animal, Food & Car Dashcam Vlog, who also videos on Monkey Hill. These are the English speaking recordings that are done. I would also expect that there are any number of Hong Kong Chinese speakers that have also uploaded videos on KZread. Your timescales are reasonably correct for the mums carrying their dead babies bodies around AFAIK. One of the main reasons why they abandon the dead bodies IMHO, is because of the stench or foul smelling odour, of a decaying body, and it is worse in the summer with the heat. I do recall AM commenting on this in one of his videos, in it he said he might perform an autopsy on the dead baby to find out what it died from. There has been no further news on that. But I have yet to see a dead babies body being buried along Monkey Hill, unlike those in Cambodia, where the cameramen bury dead babies with the usual 10 to 15 minute video interlaced with a number of adverts! The longest time for a mother to carry her dead baby is some 28 days plus, is the story of a baby chimp called Jockro, whose story is on KZread. Thanks you for your comments very useful.

    I think it's more likely we just didn't see it. A few minutes of video a week showing his interaction with the monkeys only when they are on the road, which is in the evenings at feeding time, hardly shows any but the most superficial of interactions. On top of that, sometimes we don't see monkeys or even whole families for a few weeks, and Mr AM has affairs of his own to attend. Perhaps he didn't go one week. She could have carried her passed baby for two whole weeks and just dropped it an hour before he showed. A whole world of things happen and I'm sure people that are there most days don't necessarily notice. And then, there's nothing out of the ordinary happening to notice. Our narrator is documenting all this and pointing it out, and saying that it's new, but nothing unexpected or concerning. What is it you saw that concerned you? I'm not being rude. I watch these just like you. Usually several times. I read so the comments, I go back and watch when things I don't notice are mentioned. I laugh and smile and cry with you all when all this happens. Betsy was old enough to survive without bessy at all. Teeny survived and was that age, half that size, and didn't have a family of monkeys to help or watch out for her. I think it's more likely an accident befell our poor Betsy. It happens an awful lot, in nature and probably a whole lot more often considering how closely these monkeys are intertwined with people (and traffic😢). Something I just noticed in this video that was never mentioned is it appears bessy has the same issue as Reddy, being only one working breast. If you watch this closely you can see her left one is never bruised or stretched. It occurs to me that is probably a factor in bessy wanting to hand off her baby more often as Betsy would be chomping as Mr AM suggests, but only on one side. Anyway, if you think of any details that didn't get mentioned, please share. I really get into going back in the past videos and doing my own investigations. Unfortunately, I have more free time than I would like and this is one of the few things that makes me happy these days.

  • @philbert006

    @philbert006

    Жыл бұрын

    @@elibell19 I don't think it was a car either. That's the least likely, in my opinion. I am certain that a pushy fat aunt didn't cause it. That was a 5 month old monkey. If not completely weaned, definitely mostly. Squealing and acting whiny never killed one. Dy sits there looking imposing and all but she isn't stopping the babe from eating and drinking. That baby was fat healthy and energetic, and as Mr AM pointed out, well able to get away if it really came down to it. Bessy isn't a novice mother either. As I said before, we see almost nothing of their actual lives. The forest is full of wild dogs and cats that will eat a small monkey and Dy too. It's also full of sneaky old Chinese poachers and hateful people and traps. Hong Kong is also a place that is absolutely brimming with malaria. Malaria is the only reason it exists. The Chinese confined outsiders to the island because its was uninhabitable due to malaria, thus it became a settlement for foreign traders and they like, as the Chinese hoped they would die or go away and monkeys are susceptible to malaria. Sorry about the brief history lecture. What I'm getting at is there are countless dangers out there in the wild especially for a wild little baby monkey. And she wouldn't be held down constantly like that in the forest. It's just ridiculous to think so. Dy holds her like that, like all the others do when they are on that hill because they are forced into close proximity to hostile troops and people, she is in protect mode when we see them. I think when our host shares his thoughts, which were that it's almost certainly not the case that babe starved because of ardent babysitting, that the aunt always shares foods and the baby looked perfectly healthy to him, that he has far more intimate experience with these groups than we do and while he felt admits he doesn't know for sure but his opinion is not that Dy caused it, it would be a safe assumption to follow. It annoys me to no end that some people hear that monkey whining and they immediately look to crucify the first one that's not it's mom instantly, like they are some kind of superior, like they didn't send their children screaming bloody murder into a dentists office or to stay with their aunt so mommy could have a break, or that we as humans somehow know better, or act any different, when in fact the reason we want to think it's bloody murder is because what separates us from them is not intelligence, but avarice, hate, and the desire to hurt others for pleasure. So we feel we need to project this onto the world to justify our superiority. It is a dangerous and unhealthy practice, it's why animals go extinct daily on this planet and why we fear constantly for the future, and it's unique to us. I'm sorry to get carried away, and I hope you do not think I'm attacking you or anyone else here. But I think immediately jumping to literally the most unlikely conclusion first instead of the hundreds of other, far more likely scenarios is a bit silly. This isn't a soap opera, these are wild animals in nature. In Mr AM s years of documenting the hundreds of monkeys on that island how many have died from being loved too hard? Half a dozen? Ten maybe? A fraction of a percent. Yet they see Dy holding a crying baby one time and people are in the comments screaming they wish Dy had her hands crushed and all sorts of insane shit. Less than five minutes of footage with that baby in her arms over the course of five months, looking healthy and energetic as possible, then several weeks later the baby is gone and we are just gonna execute Dy. There is a reason he does not show the feedings or anything more than the slightest squabbles, because when those wild animals really get to fighting and stomping over babies in the way or they pile up on cars driving by, folks get irrational in the comments and start screaming for someone's blood, acting instantly like a lynch mob, grab the first monkey you don't like the look of and euthanize it, then throw all the people that drive down the street in prison forever because a bunch of monkeys that have been ruined by others people's lack of self control or care for nature. Now, I'm being a bit dramatic for effect, but surely you can understand my point. Then, just to remind everyone, absolutely none of those problems would exist if it were not for the interference of people in the first place. Personally, I think Jesus will come back and rapture his people before Dy would even accidentally be the cause of death of one of those little monkeys. That is, as I said, my opinion though and it's subject to facts. The fact is, I don't know what happened any more than any of us, and it sucks. Another fact is I know intimately how harmful and easy it is to be accused and convicted of things simply because of convenience, because of being the easy target, the last face seen or being the one that's not always kissing up to everyone, and I see it happening to Dy, a fine aunt, trusted babysitter, and protector of all the monkeys around her, proven again and again, and it makes me sick and angry. I know we all get in our feelings about these creatures, as we should. They are God's gifts, just like we are and deserve the same love and respect. It is difficult beyond measure to love and respect when you get clouded with feelings and it's easy to make snap decisions based on feelings. It's our responsibility to not do that. Have your feelings, process them, hold on to them, do whatever you choose with them, but before you start making decisions and accusations, even as simple as cursing a monkey across the globe, we gotta put those feelings away, apply a bit of logic and critical thinking, and look at the clues we have available, as spare or plentiful as they happen to be. In this case, they are exceedingly spare, and I don't see any reason, no matter how infinitesimal, to lay blame anywhere. As you can see, clearly, I'm just as invested and emotional about them as anyone. I'm so bent out of shape about the comment someone left about breaking Dy s hands, I don't know what to do. I want to respond butt I don't think I could do so without being rather hurtful, probably getting myself reported or blocked, or hurting someone far more than they deserve for saying something in their feelings. I've been rather emotionally wrecked of late and don't have an outlet in the real world either, so it comes out here at times. Just reading comments from the same people, day in, day out, week after week, sharing a connection through these videos, it brings you close to people you don't know at all, have never spoken to, but get a feel for, just observing their interactions. And I think we are all better than the representation I'm seeing about this little monkey and her aunt. I can feel the anger coming out, feel that Dy is being unfairly convicted and sentenced. Suddenly she is the one that needs to be protected, and it kind of makes me feel ashamed. Anyhow, if you or anyone else make it this far, I'm sorry. I think Dy is getting a bad rap. I think we know better. I understand the feelings. And I wasn't to encourage us all to be sensible in what we say, and what we think. Which, it seems, I'm maybe not doing so well, but I'm not coming from a perceived pedestal of any sort. Just a word of caution from someone on the same side and maybe some encouragement for myself or anyone else, and all from a place of love!
