This is the THOR V2, and it is dubbed as the world's first full-billet circuit racing engine, and it is an outrageous turbocharged four-cylinder that has left the automotive world in awe. Developed by Finnish experts at Elmer Racing, this impressive powerplant challenges preconceived notions about the potential and limits of a four-pot engine. While V8 enthusiasts might argue that a competition four-cylinder can't match the horsepower output of a similar V8, the THOR V2 is here to prove them wrong, delivering extraordinary performance that rivals many championship-winning V8 engines.
Weighing in at just 330 pounds (150 kg) fully equipped and boasting a displacement of 4.0 liters, the THOR V2 achieves an unmatched power-to-weight ratio for an inline-four of its size. In fact, Elmer Racing claims that this engine's power-to-weight ratio surpasses even that of Formula 1 racing engines, setting a new standard for racing powerplants. How are they able to produces these insane figures out of a 4 banger. Well This remarkable feat is accomplished by constructing both the long block and cylinder head from solid billet pieces, resulting in a lightweight and exceptionally durable engine.
The THOR V2 draws inspiration from Porsche's iconic M44 engine architecture but has been extensively re-engineered and upgraded by Elmer Racing. To complement its billet construction, the engine is equipped with lightweight and high-quality racing internals, ensuring exceptional performance and its strong enough to take a proper beating. And you can buy these motors.
Now when you go to buy your very own Elmer Racing Thor motor you have two configurations to choose from to suit different racing disciplines. The standard configuration displaces 4.0 liters and can produce an astonishing 2,000 horsepower. Again remember this is a 4 cylinder now on their website they say that this 2000HP unit is recommended for circuit racing, I just want to know, in what car you would use this insane powerplant, I mean 2k hp in a car that has to corner is scary. I have to say one of these is currently powering the reigning time attack champion Porsche.
Then For drag racing enthusiasts, a second configuration with a 4.4-liter displacement is available, delivering an eye-popping 3,000 horsepower. Remeber these motors only weigh 150kg’s.
So how do they make all of this power, well it can rev up to an impressive 10,500 RPM which makes it possible to use a massive turbo because it can spool it. Then the package includes the THOR V2 with a dry sump lubrication system, oil pump, and proprietary vibration damper. Buyers will need to provide their desired manifolds, electronics, and turbo, though Elmer Racing can offer their own versions if required. Additionally, the engine can be further customized to address gearbox and bell housing requirements. So its pretty customizable.
Now as I said you can buy one of these, However, it's important to note that the THOR V2 is not available for the average track day enthusiast. Elmer Racing will only take orders from professional racing teams with the necessary expertise to build, race, and maintain this high-performance engine. It's not a crate engine for casual weekend racers, but rather a sophisticated and exclusive powerplant designed for serious competition. But lets say you are a pro driver and have a proper team, what would one of these cost you? Well prices seem to start at 82k pounds. So its quite expensive.

    A 4 litre 4 banger is insane. A 4 litre 3000hp engine is insane. I have a 1977 Nissan truck with a 2 litre H20 4 banger in it that weighs about the same and makes about 99hp.

    it even seems like it doesn't have that much lag which is even more impressive in my opinion, because its a 4cyl 4L its prob very versatile and can be used in anything but imo i would use it for circuit racing

    Pretty much any Ls, hemi or ford v8 would eat this four-cylinder alive if you put the same amount of work into it. That’s why you don’t see four cylinders in top fuel drag cars. those V8s make 11,000+ horsepower.

    @@zylerperry562 Nope, too heavy. Plenty of LS and Coyote V8s in Time Attack, they all get stomped by this thing. Drag racing is for knuckle draggers.

    Just the fact of it's displacement is impressive, you normally never see 4 cylinders much larger than 2.5 liters because of their inherent imbalance. Unfortunately, for the price of 82,000 pounds ($104,000 US) I can buy a V8 crate engine and the turbochargers necessary to make 5k hp and have money left over. Still, a very impressive engine by any means.

    If it had a cross plane crank like the Yamaha r1 it would be amazing. This would be great for a lancia stratos or a delta s4 Or a active ground effects car with active hydraulic suspension .

    @adriang4375 Very carefully...jk. Not that difficult on a prepped drag strip with the right suspension setup, especially in an awd platform. On the street is another matter, it would be pretty much impossible from a dig, at least in a rwd car.
