Love this content. As a Texan in the 90s our schools didn't give much attention to the natives. Being young I thought Indians in Mexico were only Aztecs and Mayans from me looking at Lowrider Magazines. Many of the indigenous fled from hostile tribes and found shelter in missions. There they were converted and the last name of the padre was replaced with the Indian one.

I moved to Texas a year ago from California. I’ve only learned a little about Chumash, Miwok from my old area but I find native cultures fascinating by their living with the land. In my opinion, it would have been for the greater good of the settlers/missionaries/pilgrims/ etc to have adopted the native way of life, Now I’m a south Texan and so eager to hear more about these great indigenous people. Thanks for the content you are sharing, much appreciated.

Thank you for youtube. Although I have worked with a number of Native American tribes as an Archaeologist, I am not that familiar with the cultures of Texas.

I just visited the Port Isabel History Museum and it is sad how overlooked the original nations are… There are a couple of lines and displays merely describing their way of life and how they used to steal caddle from ranchers, but little to no reference on how they were systematically butchered or their current contributions to modern USA…

I respect your passion and am trying to learn more and share what I learn about the Native peoples. I’m not whitewashing anything. Instead I’m trying to share more than any class in schools teaching Texas history. If you want to help me learn I would appreciate it. I have no disrespect at all for the people who’s home this was and still is. What was offensive or whitewashing by my “gringo tongue?” What is wrong with any of this: “This is the creation story of the Tap Pilam Coahuiltecan Nation, “The People of this Earth,” a tribal community of affiliated bands and clans of the Payaya, Pacoa, Borrado, Pakawan, Papanac, Hierbipiame, Xarame, Pajalat, Tilijae nations and others collectively known as the Coahuiltecans.” Did you even listen or are you just attacking me?

If God loves ALL his people then no one should be censored. Settler colonial weapons include serious bullying, cohersion and abuse. No one to my knowledge has cancelled Manifest Destiny. This man's message may include a cry of pain and disgust with good reason.

Coahulticans engaged in second harvest. Look that up. It is a disgusting practice of re eating corn and peanuts. The Comanche preyed on them because of this forcing them to build and hide behind the walls of the Spanish Missions.

They were preyed on because they were small in number. Many tribes had to join forces and still didn't have the numbers Comanche did. They held their own with less numbers. Someone did not teach you right.

@heythere3780 You are incorrect. Educate yourself. Comanche numbers were often exaggerated due to fear. IF they held thier own like you said why does history record them going to the Spanish to hide from the Comanche inside mission wall????? The facts disagree with you. I also think you believe that because you like to eat chocolate peanuts 😆
