Hello Chris I have just found your channel have to say the content I have watched is right up my alley Perhaps try sculpting the tails to fit more with the contours of the beautiful turning you created Regards Ade from UK

My neighbor had an enormous silver maple cut down and asked if I wanted any of the wood. I keep quite a bit of large limb wood. Cut it into 6 ft lengths and let it set for an entire year. Watching the ends for some blackening, I cut one of the large pieces into bowl size rounds and was really happy with the spalting took place. You’re right, you do lose some punky wood in the process, but there is plenty to work with. I truly do enjoy your content. Next time I get down south, I’ll buy you lunch. Lol

No need to buy me lunch but would be cool to meet. I am roughing out some giant silver ambrosia maple now. My wife and I could barely load half of a log after the pith was cut out. Had to buy a 6 inch faceplate to handle it.

Watching this as I comment but I really like, as a beginner, when you show and tell-meaning showing your technique but giving the voice over explains it plus your thoughts along the way. Thank you.

Thank you so much! I really do appreciate the feedback as I try to provide content people enjoy. As a beginner, I have a wood turning fundamentals playlist you might like. They are my attempt of trying to help beginners. It’s a lot about understanding catches and wood grain while turning. And if you ever have questions I’m active and will try to answer promptly.
