This Woman, Jessica Knoll, Wants To Be Rich, And She’s Not Ashamed Of It | Megyn Kelly TODAY

Megyn Kelly TODAY welcomes Jessica Knoll, author of the novel “Luckiest Girl Alive” as well as a controversial op-ed piece headlined “I Want to Be Rich and I’m Not Sorry.” Knoll criticizes a double standard for women, saying that “men are allowed to seek wealth and to seek power in a way that men are not.”

I was a struggling (financially) single mother and teacher (which I adore doing) for decades. I always worked another job to supplement the teaching income. The money struggle and two jobs wore me down for most of my adult life and affected my health. Then in my late 50's I received a substantial inheritance which has enabled me to stay in teaching, retire from my second job, pay off my little house and car and start feeling secure when I fall asleep at night. My health has improved greatly. And I can donate to charitable causes which means the world to me. Money helps so much and the feeling of security is priceless. Nothing wrong with wanting more money!

This just changed my life Megyn Kelly. When I first read the title I thought this would be a video about some pretentious woman who wants to accumulate designer clothes, shoes, and makeup. It horrified my ego to see this is actually the kind of woman I want to be; unafraid of her opinions and ambitions. Maybe my judgements were so strong because secretly I wanted to be rich too (and in being judgmental I'm trying to convince myself I don't want to be rich, so I can avoid the fear of failure if I decided to chase my dreams). So with that, my life mentality from this day forward is the same as Ms. Knoll: that I'm not sorry for wanting to be a financially successful woman. One day I know I'll become just as rich and powerful as other men.. not solely because I want to pave the path for future generations of ambitious females, but because I, Alana Kircher, WANT TO!

If this is how an average woman in AMERICA feels, just imagine how it feels to be a woman in Asia or other third world countries.

I agree that it's 2018 and women should do whatever they want, kids or not. Good for her!

Where does this “girls have to put others first” and “girls have to be polite and not make other people uncomfortable” attitude come from? It wasn’t part of my upbringing. It makes me feel like it starts with the parents, but why?

Im a nurturer and still want to be rich lol I want it all. I can still relate to her a lot tho esp the trauma part. Its a lot to want a family and a career esp bc I put off having a family to get the career and now its not coming as easily I thought it would to get pregnant/the career gets in the way with stress and what not. Its not easy to be a woman either way.

The thing is a "lot" of women have been rich and successful like Oprah, before her. What so different with her statement!!! NOTHING. She just said it out loud! I like women who are working hard, driven, ambitious, and smart like her and others. But doing it is so different from just saying it! Just saying. Other successful women who are on top doesn't need to say it. It is proven in works. Her works are far from other women I have seen!
