My favorite B-52's song by a wide margin. We love Fred Schneider, but this is better for him sitting it out. Just let Kate & Cindy's harmonies shine.
The B-52's are unique and totally wacky while being very cool musically. They are essential listening for the 80's party vibe.

My absolute fav B-52's song is "Deadbeat Club". It's not like anything you've heard from them and I think you would love it.
The harmonies, just wonderful.
This band has many, many great songs and this is coming from a ROCKER. 🔥🔥♥️👍
This song reminds me so much of high school.
Cindy Wilson sings "Give Me Back My Man" by herself as the lead vocalist in her growl while the rest of the B-52s plays and dances. But you won't recognize the sound on Give Me Back My Man compared to this Roam song because it's their early stuff from decades ago in a different style. Still with quirky lyrics though as you'd expect from the B-52s.
Fun song!!!! All the B 52’s is fun stuff! AMBER if I may I have a comment just for you that I’ve wanted to say for a long time. You look absolutely fantastic!! I was so impressed how fast you got back to yourself after being pregnant!!! I hope in some way my comment doesn’t offend you! Some may take it the wrong way. I mean it with all sincerity! Be proud of yourself girlie!! 3 kids and you are right back to yourself! I know many are jealous!! Lol. I’m sure it’s a lot of hard work and I wanted to Acknowledge That! Merry merry to you all!! ❤
I took a lot of comfort from this album and especially from this song. When "Roam" became super popular, I had a very young child and was a single mother in my third year of engineering school. It was a ROUGH time, but the B-52s, especially "Roam", helped get me through. Without wings, without wheels!
Their first two albums are just brilliant. When Ricky Wilson died, this album was the bands bounce back. This track expresses their feelings for him.

In an interview, Cindy Wilson said that this song is about death and how one’s spirit is free from the body to roam.
You guys have to hear “Shining Happy People” by R.E.M.! Kate from The B52s joins in on that track and it’s so much fun!
Roam is s my favorite song of the 90’s- it makes me feel so free and happy!
You should also check out their song Deadbeat Club.
Listen to The B-52's, "Private Idaho"!
This song is great! Having multiple vocalists makes for a wider variety of music while still being identifiably B-52s. This song was at the top of the pop charts. And they played REAL instruments.
My wife and I "roamed" around Europe a few times when we were first married in the '90s, and this was one of our jokey songs on those trips. It's a happy, upbeat song, but it brings tears to my eyes because it reminds me so much of her, who twenty years later we lost to cancer in only her 40s. It's a bittersweet song, but I still come back and listen to it every once in a while just to remember those times.
By the Late 80s everybody thought that the B-52s were done then they released a Gem of a song like this screaming : "We're still here! Remember us?" The entire album were this Song came from was fantastic!
I always preferred this song to Love Shack.

I was never really a B-52's fan but the older I get the more I appreciate the great harmonies of Kate and Cindy.
Didn’t know you were doing this! 😂❤❤❤I think quirky sums them up! They’re fun!❤
This song is such a "college song" from the late 80s. I always link Roam with Big Pig's "I can't break away" from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. I miss the 80s!
B52's "Cosmic Thing" was their most mature and commercially successful album. It wasn't a "sell out", it was their best material!
So many good memories of the B-52s! "Dance This Mess Around" is another of my favorites by them.
Awesome! I love this band! So much fun, and a much needed escape from our stressful lives. Thank you both for this channel!
Great song, absolute hit, from B-52's. Kate Pierson who did the lead vocal on this song, worked also with Iggy Pop on another super hit like "Candy", and other artists like REM in "Shiny happy people". Regards from Chile 🙂
I love EVERYTHING about this song! I have since I first heard it in 1990. Also, that stringed instrument that y'all were wondering about is called a shamisen, a traditional Japanese instrument not unlike a banjo (on that note, I recommend the Yoshida brothers).
Dancing to Rock Lobster was the highlight of my high school prom - but love ROAM, too
love the B52's, classic music also love amber's hair done like that.
The lead singer on this one is Kate Pierson. Next stops: REM, featuring Kate Pierson, "Shiny Happy People" Iggy Pop, featuring Kate Pierson, "Candy"

Love this one. I would also recommend Planet Claire by the B-52s. You will also love Kate Pierson singing with Iggy Pop on Candy.
Roam has got to be my favourite song from the b52s and one of my favourite songs of all time can happily listen to it over and over again
How can anyone not like this band, they’re wonderful ! So uplifting, mad as a bag of frogs but behind all the fun and joking around they are extremely talented musicians and those two girls - the vocals - wow !!!
After guitarist Ricky Wilson passed away in 1985, their sound was just different. Also, Kate Pierson did vocals with REM on Shiny Happy People.
"Planet Z" is my fave off this album. Speaking of quirky David Byrne of the Talking Heads produced a song by the B-52's called "Mesopotamia" that kills.

Great reaction as always. Suggestions for more great B52 reactions: Deadbeat Club, Revolution Earth, FunPlex, Planet Claire, Girl from Ipanema Goes to Greenland, Legal Tender, Private Idaho. There is plenty more to go round.
The B-52's took over where ABBA left off with the girls being lead vocals. This my favorite song by them and came while i was stationed in Then West Germany in the US ARMY 1988-1991. Each time i hear it, it brings back memories of those 2 years in West Germany. So much fun, and had the hots for Cindy so cute. Funny story when i heard this song for the first time i told 2 of my buddies, "Have you heard this New group The B-52's?" On of them said dude they've been around since 1979. Oh. I felt so stupid as i hadn't heard of them before 1989. Gosh i miss those days, can i go back.?
More memories of great times! I remember driving to the beach with a car full of friends the summer before our senior year singing this at the top of our lungs and loving life.
Topaz, Channel Z and Bushfire off this same album are great. Quiche Lorraine is another great quirky song and Strobe Light is fun!
They do a real cool version of the Flintstones theme from the first live action movie.
This is my favorite B-52 song. I was in high school when this was a HUGE hit.
spot-on with your assessments s and comments. This ones def my favorite of their songs. Those girls are fantastic signers with great ranges!
B-52s are very important and it's good that you finally got to this one! If you like Kate Pierson's (the non-blonde) voice you may want to check out a duet that she did with Iggy Pop called Candy. Their voices compliment one another well. You reacted to Iggy's "The Passenger" some time ago (one of my favorite songs by any artist), so it wouldn't be a new group at all but maybe honorable mention for being a new pairing?
I'm not sure what amuses me more here. The song's been up about 1/2 hour and no one's mentioned that the song is totally and completely about coitus, or that you missed it completely as well. (There, I kept it as clean as I can.) "Take it hip to hip, rocket through the wilderness" is one of the many and incredible and hilarious double-entendres--the song is full of them. Love the B-52s for how they pulled this one off.

21 years young and first married when this came splashing onto MTV. Luv this fun song. Thanks guys. Brings back good times.
J & Amber, we (my wife and I) love your channels. I think Roam is one of B-52’s more “radio friendly/popular with the masses. Since you both loved this song, I personally believe you both would really love the B52’s song “Topaz”. It’s just as really poppy and radio friendly as Roam, but is a lesser known (to the mass public) songs . Keep doing what you do and have a Merry Christmas!
This was one of their big hits. Went to a jazzercise class and we always warmed up to this song.
This band is one of my all time favorites. Cindy Wilson especially is an amazing vocalist. Her voice has so much character and power. Her solo vocal songs for the B-52s is some of the best music ever. If you're looking for another great track try "Give Me Back My Man". Cindy really gets to shine there and it's amazing... and also weird haha.
@MagnifiiScentz
Жыл бұрын
Agreed! I've favored Kate for many years, but Cindy's talents have grown on me over the years, thanks to KZread. First of all, her presence was missed during the "Good Stuff" album. It was good, but I think it would have been better had Cindy been there... though I don't fault her at all for wanting to take time off after Ricky's death. Anyway, I've watched recent videos of her, and she has a lot more control and depth in her voice than she did in the early years. While the B-52s wouldn't be where they are without Kate, and while I can't imagine the band without her (there would be no B-52s without Kate!), I actually prefer Cindy's voice, now that I've heard more of it.
The two ladies can sing!

You want more "fun" B-52s, you gotta hear "Good Stuff". It's bright and peppy and really upbeat... without (most of) that Rock Lobster weirdness. :) Gotta admit, Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson are quite unlike any other lead-singer duo you've ever heard... and then when you add Fred Schneider into the mix... BOOM.
Kate and Cindy have such unique harmonies...I love them.

I love the B-52's and I'm glad you guys did this song because as quirky and bizarre as some of their stuff is, you can really hear that they actually have great voices too. It's not all gimmicks and being strange for the sake of gaining attention. They can actually sing.
So glad you did this one! It's my favorite B-52's song. And I dig them. It's the guitar that gets me. Just delightfully riffy!

"Juliet of the Spirits" really is so good. That album didn't make the splash I expected it to.
Roam is a great introduction to the Bs before you get smacked in the head with Rock Lobster. There are a couple of songs of theirs that just have the girls singing and no Fred. Most of the songs that have Fred in there will be a bit quirkier sounding. Partially because that is just who they are, partially because the whole call and response of the three vocalists together just automatically gives it a quirky flavor. You really need to stick with this band. This song was more of a mainstream, radio friendly sound, like Love shack, but if you want to hear the girls singing on one of those monster dance tracks of theirs, I recommend Cake. The girls have phenomenal voices. I’ve seen the B-52s live more times than I can count and man, when they opened their mouths, you felt it in your soul. They are LOUD and powerful and clear as bells.
