    Roger Waters wanting more lead vocal parts is a lot of what broke the band up. It started with this album, but on the Wall he was so demanding that the other guys didn't even want to be there in the studio, and there are whole chunks of the album that Gilmour and Wright aren't even on.

    Pink Floyd were the MASTERS of the MIX; you can always hear every instrument, and the lead instrument. Amazing harmonies. Never too loud, and crystal clear vocals. Yeah we were spoiled, spoiled then and still are! Welcome to the brotherhood!

  • @beckygrant2258
    @beckygrant22582 жыл бұрын

    You are right! We WERE spoiled growing up in the era of Pink Floyd…rock and roll was SO GOOD in the 60’s and 70’s! Pink Floyd is the best of the Progressive Rock era. You cannot dance to this kind of music. But it takes you somewhere. We used to come home from school or work and put on headphones, turn on all this great music, turn up the volume and get lost in the journey. It was a form of meditation. It opened our minds. Where did these talents come from? Heaven, I think. That’s how it felt. If you like this music….there is more of this genre to love! Not just Pink Floyd, either. Moody Blues, Genesis, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and YES, just to name a few! When I was in High School, one of my neighbors from my class got a Pink Floyd album in the mail when he joined a Columbia Record club. We had never heard of them before. He called me over to his house and he said, “you have to listen to this album!” We probably played that album over and over for a few hours. He had four speakers, one in each corner of the room, and he turned up the volume. We were mesmerized! He rolled a joint and we were gone. We hung out a lot in the early 70’s, just listening to the albums coming in the mail. Record stores were making a fortune back then! Everybody was introducing albums they had heard with everyone else, sharing what they had been hearing. We drove around in cars with friends just listening to the radio and tapes. We went to see every band who came in concert. Some of those bands would play for 4 hours or more in concert! And they sounded just like the albums…such talent! By the way, my neighbor friend became Valedictorian of my graduating class. That music expanded our minds!

    This Album was my Very 1st introduction to pink Floyd and it was totally by accident. On April 29th of 1979 i turned 11 years old, and my mom bought me the Greatest Gift ever... A Sony Walkman and a Kiss Cassette ( Detroit Rock City ) was so happy!!! I was walking to my friend's house to show him this New Technological Wonder... and on the way, off to the side of the road, i saw a Memorex Recordable Cassette Tape with the word "animals." Written on it. I put it in my Walkman and was totally blown away with the cornucopia of sounds, music, left and right stereo bouncing off oboth off my ears... Dogs barking in the left headphone speaks while amazing guitar solos emanating from the right headphone speaker. I never made it to my friends house because i sat on a rock in the woods and listened to that album 6 times.. i listened until it got dark, and i had to go home, i listened in my bed falling asleep, and i still have not stopped listening to Pink Floyd for the entity of my life. This is still my favorite album to fall asleep to, and i have so generously passed down all of the great music i grew up on to my 16 years old son!!!!

    I’m still amazed that there are so many people that have either a) never heard of Pink Floyd till now and/or b) Heard OF them and that’s where their knowledge of the band just stopped. It’s nice to see so many younger kids (I’m almost 48) discover them and be totally amazed. I’ve been a fan of Floyd for literally decades and I still love hearing their music. Now if all you’ve ever heard so far are just songs you’re HALFWAY there to understanding the real Floyd. They don’t tour that often anymore, but you can easily find them on KZread. You’ve heard and now it’s time to see. A Pink Floyd concert is truly truly incredible. Their concerts, if you were to imagine two half circles, are like taking the one half (sound) and joining it with the other half (visual) to create the WHOLE Floyd experience. One last thing you’ll notice is that Pink Floyd, out of all the bands and singers out today, yesterday and years ago are part of a small group of bands that are BETTER when seen live! They not not sound just as good as they do on an album, they sound even better!

I later got to see them in '83 at the Omni in Atlanta. A concert of the likes of which I had never seen before nor since. Love em.....

    Pink Floyd live is/was amazing. I first saw Floyd in April 1975 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island, NY. They opened with "One of These Days" from the Meddle album. They then asked the crowd if we minded if they tried out their yet to be released next album, "Wish You Were Here". We got to hear the entire album, in order a couple months before they released it to the public. They took a 10 minute intermission and came back and played the entire "Dark Side of the Moon" album, in order. They left as the crowd was shaking the place for an encore. They came back out and performed a 40 minute version of "Echoes" from the Meddle album as the encore. I have seen hundreds of concerts in the years since but the introduction to Pink Floyd live still remains the most memorable concert that I have attended. It was a sight and sound extravaganza. I had eighth row floor seats and it only cost me $7.50 face price. By far, the BEST Concert value, EVER

    Preston, I've been watching your "experiences" listening to music I grew up with and have enjoyed deeply re-experiencing the music almost as though for the first time simply by following your authentic, honest enthusiasm. It's a joy to see. As a few people have commented, they're jealous for what you have ahead of you: so much music from that era that was crafted for art purposes, not simply as a product, which is where the music industry largely is today for a variety of reasons. Album sales revenues back then, when Animals was made, were substantial, and that $ meant the record labels allowed artists to take months/years/$ to create works such as Pink Floyd's Animals, because the sales would support that investment. We're in a different time today, as we know. But...at the pace you're going, you literally have a decade or two ahead of simply taking in the massive amount of quality guitar-oriented rock music created in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s....etc. You have a wonderful, joyous journey ahead of you. Keep listening and we'll keep tuning in.

    Yes...I greatly enjoy the purity and sincerity of Preston's reactions. One thing that's different when comparing his age to mine when I first heard this music is he's older, and his music-listening experience is broader than mine. I see that as an advantage that provides additional perspective compared to me when I was, say, 15. I had little perspective, so while the music was captivating, I couldn't see it (yet) as a part of a larger tapestry. The fact that he has more experience and then still finds the essential magic in older music is all the more impressive.

They are the GOAT. So, she listens to the words "dragged down by the stone" and runs to me with tears in her eyes (beautiful eyes of a redtick coonhound!), looks deep in my eyes: You are not going to do this to me? - Never! That was it. If a dog appreciates the music, that's top grade.

    “Animals” is essentially based off of George Orwell’s concept of comparing human behavior with animal representation.
