    Havent seen a comment about this so I'm gonna share this: the voice at the beggining is late Stephen Hawking. He actually wanted to contribute to this album, as his favourite band was Pink Floyd, so the guys let him speak on this beautiful song, and recorded him.

  • @HardcaseStewart

    @HardcaseStewart

    Actually I’m afraid that’s inaccurate, the Hawking clips are from a BT (British Telecom) advert that hawking had lent his voice to. Gilmour chose to sample it as the advert itself in it’s entirety had brought him to tears.

    "Sorrow" from Delicate Sound of Thunder OR Pulse is amazing. The studio version from A Momentary Lapse of Reason just lacks a little...something. Probably the earth-shattering low notes in the intro and outro and the terrific bass playing by Guy Pratt. I saw them live in Atlanta (both nights) during their tour for The Division Bell (the tour that produced Pulse) and I was literally concerned about the integrity of Georgia Tech stadium. You could hear the structure rattling at certain points. Preston, if you do react to the live version of "Sorrow", I don't think earbuds will do it justice. This one needs some nice full-ear headphones.

    If you check out their 'live' performance of this from their 'Pulse' tour......it's pretty cool ( of course....).....notice that the stage was modeled after the Hollywood Bowl....which they played on one of their first tours of America back in the 1960s or 70s. Apparently they were really happy with the sound out of that venue. So for THIS 1994 tour.....Pink Floyd actually had TWO of these stages constructed ( .....they could afford it....). While playing in one city.......a separate road crew was already setting up the second stage in the next city. I remember they had a massive fleet of big rigs leap-frogging around the country.....hauling all of the lasers, giant speakers & other assorted lights & gear.
