Prince wrote this song. Now they are both gone, with the report today of Sinead's death. 😢 She is Irish, and she created a controversy when, on Saturday Night Live, she tore a photograph of Pope John Paul II, in protest of the Catholic priests who molested children. Her career suffered. She was post-Punk. She said a couple of years ago, "Not because I was famous or anything, but because I was a human being, I had a right to put my hand up and say what I felt."

Her diagnosed borderline personality disorder and agoraphobia, along with her toxic personality, has ruined her personal and business associations throughout her life. You can't be a pop star - or any other type of star - when both your public and private persona is hateful. Her incredibly nasty personality is well demonstrated with this Twitter post made in Nov. of 2018: "But truly I never wanna spend time with white people again (if that's what non-muslims are called). Not for one moment, for any reason. They are disgusting." Great talent with a lot of problems.

Also how sad is “a bird without a song”? OMG, Prince was genius! 🥰 Did you notice how deep she went on this interpretation, she cries at the end of the song. She has one of the most powerful voices you will ever hear. She only recorded two albums before she ran into trouble for, of all things, tearing a picture of the Pope in half during a performance on Saturday Night Live. Seems quaint now, given the way protest is these days, but it really derailed her career. She was unapologetic and refused to compromise on her political stance and she paid the price. This was 30 years ago and would likely have not turned out today as it did then. We really were deprived of one of the signature voices in music. Also, she wasn’t blaming the Catholic Church for her problems. She was protesting against the silence of nations who were covering up the crimes of child abuse within the church. Ireland knew all about the church sex scandal because they were victims in it and the church had taken out an insurance policy to cover the lawsuits claims and it made the news. the US knew nothing about it, and without the internet, or a proper explanation from Sinead when she did it, that narrative was that it was just her hating on Catholics (she was one herself) and the pope.

This woman spot on correct to outwardly protest and contest the taboo subjects of the time every other famous person had dodged due to thier potential controversy which could end one's career. Sinead was a hero in plain sight. We should all honor her memory and apologize for EVER calling her crazy EVER. RIP queen

She recorded this video just after her mother's passing. The emotion you hear, and see in her eyes is real intense pain and pure sadness/emotion. I've even read she had a difficult relationship with her "abusive" mother. And then to get canceled for speaking truth on abuse in the Catholic Church years before it was out. Society owes her an apology.

But she continued to make music but not widely heard in US. I will be checking out her more recent albums now that she's gone to appreciate her stunning talent as a singer.

It's pretty damn difficult to sing a Prince song and actually make it your own, but Sinead did exactly that. There is so much Prince in this song when you really listen to the music, but her Irish blood took it to a whole other level. God bless her, we are the same age, it breaks my heart that she is gone...Freaking Prince and Sinead are gone...thank god their art is recored forever. Rest in Paradise Sinead!

Thank you for reacting to her! I am sooooo late to this party but I LOVED her voice. We didn't get a chance to hear too much other music because, in my humble opinion, she performed this song on Saturday Night Live. FOrgive me I cannot remember the date -- But as a protest, at the end of her performance, she ripped the photo of the reigning Pope at that time. You could hear a PIN drop!!! for a few seconds --then the phone started ringing off the hook! She was not given a fair shot to distribute her music her the USA after that
