JJ Cale is probably the artist with the most famous songs he wrote that people think were written by the band or artist that covered them. Cocaine and After Midnight covered by Eric Clapton, Call Me the Breeze covered by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Traveling Light covered by Widespread Panic, etc.

But for me, MAGNOLIA and that entire album is a masterpiece. I've always wanted to get him, Willis Alan Ramsey, Danny O'Keefe and Ry Cooder together for a long evening of fantastic music.

This song and others by Cale are used to great effect in a very sweet French romantic comedy film from 1983, MY BEST FRIEND’S GIRL. Listening to Magnolia on the soundtrack while looking at Isabelle Huppert is the very definition of paradise.

I stood in front of him in the first row in a small club while he played once. His guitar playing is iimpeccable.
