Kudos to the owner for doing all that work. The lace paintwork is awesome, I haven't seen that done in years on a car.
I keep coming back to this video. Even in 2020. My inspiration for my 68 Ghia. I’m almost taking my 1st drive in it.
Looks great, I have a stock 58 one to restore, 1st RHD one ever made
way to low for me, but mad respect for the work and dedication :)

Try driving a car lowered like this and you will see how much a pain in the ass it is !
I can't believe the negative comments....usually from people who have never built anything!! I love this car and the effort to build it. Fantastic!!
Great car mate. I like your philosophy of keeping the rust smudge to keep it real. Well done.
top effort your struggle made a great car thank you for your work .
Wow so much work!
Great job! I'm in love
That is one of the best swapenstein ratrods I've seen in a long time, and you continued the handbuilt tradition! l hope it has better heat than stock...

Funny you mention heat... The Subaru won't keep its cool without a heater core, so you're forced to have real deal heat, unless it's blocked from entering the cabin.
i got a 68 ghia and i havent had any motivation to fix it but this makes me wanna work on it haha. very cool!
fabulous job I have a 69 Ghia and I love it!
now that is a bad ass conversion. Nice job Mike !

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Ghia!!!
Dude, you got style!
My dream first car! Looking at a '65 Ghia with the intentions to nearly copy this!
I would use an analog clock for the turbo, other than that, it is a nice project you've got there.
Esse podrão na frente, ficou ótimo!!
Beautiful car
stock height does look lame , but that's too low . an inch higher and it would still look sick , but you could drive it .

jerry henderson i agree however his engine and transmission was raised a few incges so it doesnt scrape the oil pan everywhere
they way the car looks interior exterior, i love it. classic cars should be in this condition for me. it adds flavour, not the candy paint. great job man

Cool. I see the AB plate. Im in Edmonton.
Not a ghia fan but this is pretty badass!
Badass cool. The exhaust obstructing the tag would get you many tickets in America though.
Looks like it fits much much better than a regular VW
Love it
Love the duct tape on the dashboard. Classy guy... What's his name? Red Green?
I love the lace paint job on the roof, which gives a very 60's Bellflower kustom influence to the car. If I had one, I'd make it into a 60's Bellflower car, then stick a Subaru BRZ boxer motor out back. How did you sort the cooling out, as the new engine's water cooled?
Looks hot

Love the car man, I have a 1969 Karmann Ghia, it is in fairly good condition. I am looking to put power into though wondering if I could get some help on what to do exactly
dam how do you get over speed bumps looks like 1 inch off the ground
Great car great fun.. Thumbs up..
F’kn sick!
What did you have to do to make the wheels fit??? Beautiful car!
Any chance of retrofitting a later fully independent rear suspension and correcting the camber?
fuck my mind is already set on getting a red hardtop miata........now im changing my mind again
Great stuff. I cant go for the slammed look though. Always looks collapsed to me but thats just my opinion.
Awesome ❗👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
now that is a dream car. i would maybe go an inch higher in snow country. tastefully down, sweet. if i win the lottery i know who to contact for a rebuild!
Sweet
I like the phonedials, are they 15" diameter 7" wide et52? I may put some on my ghia, wondering if you did any tricks to get them to fit
It's got to be a rough ride.
Hey Mike how much mod did ya have to do to get that boxer motor in?
What wheels are those? What are they from, Porsche 924?
Why 3 persons dislike this ??? Just Awesome !

Miroslav Szabó He didn't, the person that started the "leaving it for dead" process is the one who ruined it. This car could have been scrapped, but his vision and passion drove him to restore it into this, a cool, unique daily driver built for no one else but himself.

'Ruined' to some people means he didn't either leave it for them to have and do nothing with it, or didn't restore it stock. Maybe with a mighty 40 horse or something, I can just imagine the power... Perhaps some drum brakes on the front as well. Which is all the excitement you will get, trying to stop.

+suzan sullivan there are quite a few companies that make engine swap kits. motor mounts as well as transmission conversions. basically you need a car and the subie engine and buy the kit. then just time.
.porche?
Nice ride! Always loved the lines on the Ghia, I would dump it just that. Not sure about the motor setup though. is it connected to the vw transaxle?

Too low and I hate the lace and the doo doo stain on the front. But great body work and drive train. Is it still considered a drive train in a rear engine car???

Mike Mcconnell Very cool. How did you plumb it inside or under the vehicle? Did you use hose or pipe fit it in? very bad ass car. Good Job!
A bug or Ghia is still the best car on ice and snow. Turbo or not. Get ready for a tear down of that Subaru though. Gonna need head gaskets water pump etc. How bad does that valve adjust sound now?
'murica. Make an oldtimer to scrap.
first impressions: a complete butchery of possibly the most beautiful body ever created. love the paint job, but those wheels are out of place on a classic, it is way to low to the ground, and that exhaust pipe is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. if you want to rice a car, at least have the decency to do it to something like a POS civic. however your craftsmanship is way up there, and you did amazing bodywork

I mean, the entire point of a build like this is to defy convention. I'd love to do something like this someday. But I do agree that the exhaust pipe is absurd. I bet it makes a good reference point for backing into parking spaces, though!
