    That is not how it works when you are in the business of reselling used items. You buy what you yourself want to have, but never buy anything you can't make money on. So when you get tired of it, as you inevitably will, you can sell it, or put it up for sale and use it while it sells. The idea of buying something just have it indefinitely without a care for it's actual value is not good business, and is why so many people are broke.

    But even if he wanted it for himself, I'm pretty sure he would still want to restore it, and it just doesn't make sense to pay someone for something that basically requires the entire value of the finished product to restore it. At that rate, he should just go look for an already restored one and buy it at that price...

    Not really; The whole point of owning a collector car is that it will appreciate no matter what. This wasn't "that car", because no one cares about your hobby project; Any serious investor wants the car as original to factory as possible. Whenever you "customize", anything, be prepared to be throwing your $ away...Just installing second hand seats, devalued the car signifigantly...

    This is one of the better looking KG's I have seen. Granted, like all used cars it needed some work, but the "expert" went way overboard in his criticism and ultra-low-ball appraisal.

    I agree a broke motor mount for a little engine like that is not a big deal that car was pretty solid sometimes I really wonder where these "experts" are getting their prices from they seem really really low.

    That guy got free advertise for that car in most famous pawn tv show on planet.Just the fact car was in this tv show is probably good enough for alot of people to buy it.I am pretty sure that car was sold before you even watched video about it.

    Dinamo Zagreb true, it wasn’t worth it to Rick for a restoration and flip but it might be worth 9 or 10k to a local who can keep it as is and work on it himself.

    modding it and driving it on poor brakes and broken engine mounts is not the best way to keep a classic car. I have seen so many cars, mostly from younger dudes that are "modded" but dangerous to drive.

    Unless Ghia's were different, VW's never had engine mounts, they were bolted to the gearbox with just 4 bolts. But the rear wheels dont look right with the negative camber.

    idk what the market for them there is. West coast cars tend to survive longer without rust issues so I'd bet there's more of them around there and that might affect the price.

    There was an episode of some gal was selling a guitar owned by the guitarist of Def Leppard and he had some where he was creating his own art designs on for his signature version and she had one he was just testing out designs on. The guitar guy they have that comes in brought down Def Leppard to confirm it was his.

    Nice looking Karmen Ghia. Mechanically the things it needs is not alot of money. The owner should address the problems and then try to sell it. Personally I'd keep it. It's very cool looking

    He specified when he was a kid. And btw, while subjective, the ghia has consistently been widely considered one of the coolest body designs in auto history. Not just by me, but by auto publications, gearheads, etc.

    Its a motor. And when a KZread expert says "a engine" i question his general knowledge, what do you even know of these 2 words? A fire engine is a moving contraption and the motor supplies the power it needs to move.

    In 1970 I bought a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible in West Warwick RI. It was Pastel blue and I paid 2600 dollars. I ordered it special so it took 4 weeks to come in. Was a fun car to drive but had very little power and poor brakes. I got married in March of 73 and my first son was born in January of 74 so I had to sell it. There fun to drive but my golf clubs took up the back seat and the front of the car had very little storage.

    Fun fact: The ghia rear seats aren’t made to be seats. It was mostly for display. Like the Porsche 911. As he said, The ghia is the poor mans porsche.

    I took out the rear seat and put a roll bar in my 73 Ghia convertable. Built it up for autocross, won driver of the year in p3 class.

    I dont know what the market is like in the US but over in the UK youd be looking at £13,000+ for a half decent runner, £30,000 for a fully restored model. Unless theres thousands of them in the US then 5k seems crazy low.

    My mom had one Karman ghia convertible, and she love it , it went in snow, mud ,it went very were. Mom car was red with a white top. We always had VW.

I didn't particularly like how this VW expert came across, but he was right on the money. My guess was High end $4500, but that's looking at this from 40 feet away , essentially. I got a '69 Shell he can restore and he can have that for less than $1000, lol.

    I know where there is a Karmann Ghia sitting in a front yard in Ensenada, MX waiting for restoration. Body looks straight, complete and stock...my first car was a '64 Ghia, but all hacked up Baja Bug style and half-arsed at that. Seen several stock-looking Ghias driving around too.

    I don’t know what he was talking about it needed engine mounts these VWs didnt have motor mounts the engine just bolts to the Tran axel with 4 bolts. No mounts Worked in a VW shop and probably owned 20 over the years and pulled out a lot of engines I think the estimate to restore it was on the moon high

    That's probably the guy's shop price, doing it yourself would be CHEAP. The shifter rattling is common on older VW's as well, though I'm sure you're aware of that. It's just a symptom of the shifter coupling and/or bushing being bad. That expert seems to know everything and also nothing at the same time.

    Loved the commercial for it, saw it on Jonny Carson's show, had the car running at high speed across a desert. Voice guy mentioned the cars name, said the least expensive sports car in America, the car comes up the wall of paper, bounced back, voice guy says, "It's just not the most powerful'.

    My first car was a Baby Blue 69' Karmann Ghia. I loved that car. My Dad bought it for me for $1500 back in 80' but I wasn't allowed to drive it till I could pay for the insurance myself. I spent most of the Summer washing and waxing that car until I saved up the $700 for the insurance. It was a fun little car, and a huge babe magnet when cruising the Jersey Shore. :)

    the motor mounts are broken! Grat vw expert i bet it was low on coolant too! Fyi there is no factory motor mount, the engine just hangs off the transaxle there is a transaxle mount and cost like 25$ and can be replaced in 30mins!
