This was probably nothing more than a way to promote the auction when it originally aired on television

It ended up selling for $88k at auction, so after the auction fees, the seller walked away with roughly $60-$70k. So as a pawn shop owner, Rick’s offer was fair from an investment stand point.

The dude that was trying to sell this wanted 200k. He ended up selling it at auction for 88k and after fees probably got 75k. Rick's offer was not unreasonable because this guy also had to transport it to the auction. The car had lots of issues. The buyer did an EV conversion on it and had the RR guts replaced with a Tesla S EV drive train.

They probably didn't expect that at first. Notice the intro for the first season or so, Chumlee wasn't even in it.

They seem to have an expert for everything - somebody could walk in with a bronze toilet plunger from the 1920’s and they’d somehow phone their buddy who is an expert in toilet plungers of the 20th century..
