They have a hidden track under the song "Yes" called "Chinese Sleep Chant", and its true to the shoegaze genre check it out.

i always saw "Shoegaze" as a blanket term for the three styles of Noiserock (think MBV,ringo deathstarr), dream pop (cocteau twins, lush), and atmospheric/ambient (slowdive, lsd and the search for god), kinda like a triangle in a way, where a lot of shoegaze albums fall kind of on this scale where they all take parts from each style, but that's just my personal interpretation

Yeah, there are definitely at least two different styles that got lumped together under the Shoegaze banner by the British press in the early 90's. They shared some common influences and later influencees, but didn't really sound anything like each other.

Very cool video but missed the opportunity to show the shoegaze thing is not only an American/european phenomenon but also something that’s going strong in Latin America with bands like Plenamente or Terraplana and Asia with Asian Glow and Parannoul

The Smile Ep is arguably just as good as Ride’s debut album

"Nightlife" - Yuragi. The best shoegaze adjacent project I've ever heard. If you're reading this comment, PLEASE check it out. Shame that they couldn't get near to what it had achieved with their follow-ups.

I would personally recommend the band Airiel as well. Their Winks and Kisses EPs have some of the best shoegaze tracks ever.

The BEST shoegaze album I've ever heard is called "True Color True Lie" by a Japanese shoegaze band called "Hartfield". They released a single super awesome album and then disappeared into nothingness. On Japanese message boards Hartfield is considered one of the "four kings of Japanese shoegaze". I check the internet for them every few months to see if there is anything new, hoping that one day they will pull a MBV and drop a new album out of nowhere...

Raise is still one of my favorites. Swervies had one foot in shoegaze and the other in grunge imo. I still have store bought cassette of raise bought in the early 90's. Adam Franklin is an interesting guitarist and writer.

I used to listen to Shoegaze and dream pop a lot in my teens and YA, that stuff made me even more sad that I already was. MBV’s s/t saved me from a very dark place though so I’ll always have that to thank

Ringo Deathstarr is another great shoegaze band that is definitely worth mentioning

I think japanese shoegaze needs more attention overall. What they've done with the genre is fun and unique. A band which i came across which i would HIGHLY recommended is "burrrn." They have one album and its harsh and beautiful. CHECK IT OUT!!

I highly recommend a Japanese band called Luminous Orange. Criminally underrated shoegaze band that sprouted from the Shibuya-Kei scene (another great genre to explore.) Absolutely phenomenal band with great song writing and guitar playing that deserves way more love.

I saw Jesu back in the mid-00s. They were so loud they made a pipe burst in the ceiling.

One of my favorite shoegaze in the past few years has been Coaltar of the Deepers, the more I listen to them the more I am stunned by their blend of metal, shoegaze, electronic music etc

Love to see feeble little horse - Girl with Fish featured here! I had that album on repeat all winter. So good.

Got into shoegaze around 2013-14 when it was vastly more niche. But it is thoroughly wonderful to see it enter a new wave of popularity. And a whole new generation of bands expanding the sound lime Bleary Eyed and TAGABOW. But nothing beats the classics for me. Slowdive, MBV, Lush, loveliescrushing. Just like a warm hug of sound. It’s also very cool to see Anthony point out shoegaze’s very real connections to late 60s psych. You can draw a pretty straight line from Piper At The Gates Of Dawn/ Solo Syd Barrett to the Paisley Underground to shoegaze. You ask so many of the early shoegaze bands and most of them were/are huge 60s psych fans.

I'd loveeee a Slowcore genre pack. I get the same artists recommended all the time (Low, Duster, Red House Painters...), so getting some new and morr obscure recs would be pretty cool.

Currently my favorites in shoegaze and those who pull influence from it are Soft Blue Shimmer, Grave Saddles, Deep Sea Diver, Absinthe Father, and Hollow Bastion.

Belong is my fav shoegaze band. They also have a drone/noise album that’s borderline shoegaze that they put out in 2010. Through them I heard of MJ Guider that also dabble in shoegazing that are also part of the New Orleans scene.

Thank you for giving a name to a genre that I had no idea I already enjoyed, both dream pop and shoegaze. As someone who usually defaults to rap, it’s great to be able to search for this genre now and expand my library

the way i got into it was through siamese dream by the smashing pumpkins, which isn’t necessarily a shoegaze album but borrows a lot from shoegaze. another band that’s super easy to get into is the jesus and mary chain, especially darklands which borrows a bit from britpop.

Germany actually has developed a great shoegaze scene! Some Bands are: Attic Ocean, Yeahrs. Hyperlily, the BVs, Swirlpool, Scott Evil…

More starter pack series please. And even better follow up from starter pack to more deep dive of those genre.

Definitely. Ringo are brilliant, I love almost everything by them. Their EP Sparkler, from 2009, two years before Colour Trip was out, is magnificent and has beautiful inspired songs.

I saw ride live a few weeks ago in New Hampshire, they killed it!
