I come 2 months later to say that, while this game is amazing, DO NOT BUY IT. Get a cracked version instead. This is one of FEW cases where pirating a game is justifiable, and hear me out in case you're curious. Basically, for those who don't know, the Development team was laid off by the Publisher, because the game wasn't making enough sales. So if you buy the game, you won't be helping the game get finished, nor will the money be going to the amazing Development team that made this amazing game. Instead, it will go to the shitty ass Publishers instead. Publishers that DIDN'T EVEN NOTIFY the people on the Steam page about this decision, and instead left the unfinished game, on Steam, with NO NOTIFICATION saying that the game will ever be finished, in an eternal "Early Access" state, just so they could fool some people into sending them money by buying it. Absolutely disgusting. So yeah, pirate it. And if you really want to, Idk, maybe spend some time to try to find the people that made the game, and send them the money you would've spent on the game, instead. Like, as a donation or something, if it's an option.

dude is funny that i also found this game casually on steam and i never pay for games, i dont even have a great set up, i literally download everything that cost money from the internet, and so i did with this one but is a shame they will not be able to finish it, i came looking for a review because i really liked it

Talking about the ranged character point: The problem isn't ranged characters doing a lot of damage or having an easier time dodging, it's them not having a lower HP value to compensate for that. My favourite examples are the main characters from Dead Estate (which you should check out if you haven't already btw), because one has increased movement speed, low health... And a shotgun, while the other starts with double the HP, slightly lower speed and damage, but a gun with infinite range. It's so painfully easier to keep yourself safe with the gun that if you swapped the health values around, I genuinely believe the characters would be more balanced lol

Mmm it's the reason why a lot of zoners in fighting games have low health and defense or why grapplers have a fair amount of health to trade with you in order to get close. It's a strength balancing out a weakness

In Diablo 3, if you're a melee character, you straight up take 30% less dmg to compensate for the fact that you're not a ranged character. In a lot of aRPGs, playing ranged characters are almost always better since you have better AoE and can clear a full screen of mobs in a few clicks. You don't have to worry about defense since your dmg end game should be able to one-shot most trash mobs before they could even get to you. You can also dodge boss mechanics a lot easier when you don't have to stand right next to the boss to do dmg. In Path of Exile, people have been complaining about how ranged builds are usually always superior than melee builds, alongside being also easier to gear since forever. But due to the complexity of PoE, it's not as simple as buffing all melee characters to be tankier like D3, because every character in PoE could go either melee or ranged, and almost every buff to improve melee's tankiness/dmg will be abused by ranged builds.

It reminds me of Zeri from league of legends, when on release, there was a bruiser build, which was realy toxic, as she couldnt be bursted and damage wasnt that bad thanks to black cleaver and colosal hydra, but the worst thing with that combination, it was her speed, you couldnt touch her nor escape her.

Not saying your points are wrong, but to me it looked less like a balancing issue here, and more of a build issue. He built both of his first characters for AoE (with Smash), so it's not surprising that a character with single target damage did better. (Not to mention, that by the looks of it, there aren't actually too many enemies on screen at once, so single target DPS will mostly be superior.)

Love the video already, Skooch! I'm so glad to see all the passion you have for new games, hobbies, and interests. You can genuinely tell by the sound of your voice how much happier you are. Keep crushing it, king >:3

I love how curse of the dead gods handles ranged characters, for example, the pistol you get at the start of the game, you Have to hold it down or you do basicly no damage while being stationary, and the enemys are very fast, meaning you cant stand there spamming it all the time, it also uses you stamina whic is one of the most important resources, you get only 4 or 5 squares of stamina that take years to regen, so not only do you use it to dodge, parry, but also shoot, you get punished hard for over useing it, that way, its more so for punishing enemys after they miss an attack thats out of your range rather that being the main damage dealing option, whic is your sword, later on you do unlock ranged wepons, but they are mostly in the heavy slot, whic takes 2 stamina, so you can only shoot 2 before you get down to your last square, whic you need to keep in case you need to dodge, if you use the last one, you get tired, so no dodgeing, no parrys, no attacks till you recover all the stamina

So I ended up picking up the game after your recommendation, it is super fun!! Having a great time with it, have cleared it on the first difficulty with all characters, have almost every record maxed out. With this experience however, I can very easily say that the Evelyn is FAR from the strongest in the game. I think that title probably goes to Maz, though Lilya is my current preference in terms of playstyle, since I prefer her neon flash and the alt versions of her variation skill are incredible. Now, why is the Evelyn not crazy op? Well, there are a few reasons! The main big one is the enemies - most of them have ranged attacks themselves, or have high mobility, meaning keeping your distance becomes either difficult or ineffective! Meanwhile the two melee characters have a far easier time of dispatching these foes, simply by virtue of their insane damage. Now, of course, there is the issue of On Hit Effects! The things like the % chance to freeze enemies with normal attacks, or variation attacks or such! Evelyn does have her 'Pew Pew' guns, which can hit multiple times very quickly, and apply these status effects! However, this isn't actually all that impactful, as Maz has a multi-hit finisher on an alternative version of his normal attacks, and his skill let's him land multiple hits as well! Evelyn, meanwhile, lacks these, but makes up for it with faster attack speed than either of these two, resulting in her ultimately getting more hits in - often more than enough to proc the status effects!! There is another aspect to this, that is important to discuss: Smash Builds. They seem really OP early on, but they honestly kinda suck. Most of the early enemies die in a few hits anyway, and the damage from smashing honestly isn't that huge comparatively? Where smash shines is in a support role - things such as the Frostbite Smash making a glacial field that freezes enemies who attempt to attack you, or the Flame Smash making an inferno field that ignites them. Pair this with other records that reward these status effects being in play, and you can melt even bosses VERY quickly. The final boss barely gets to move if you have Glacial Field + extended ice duration! One of the best things to do (that I've found thus far) is actually to stack things onto your normal attack. If Rasphody provides you with an insane ability (reset skill CD on tempo skill, for example), absolutely switch, but outside of that, normal attacks (on Lilya at least) are the absolute bread and butter of what you want to do. Frostbite on normal attack is incredible, since you can simply hit so many times the enemy often becomes frozen - pair into bonus backstab damage to melt enemies (power record), or just the ability to unfreeze enemies to deal bonus damage (frostbite), and you can melt enemies incredibly quickly!! This is a game based around, at least at current, being absolutely broken in half. Remember - enemies can't hurt you if you simply kill them first. My one major critique would be Ults. Often times, it feels like they do absolutely nothing. Evelyn does benefit in this regard - her Ult is often just a straight screen clear, and against some enemies that is extremely helpful! Overall though, Evelyn struggles in the DPS department, in a game all about the DPS. tl;dr: Evelyn isn't OP because the other two can just kill the enemies faster if built right, smash builds suck bc smash is a support option.

It sounds like Scooch would really like the new roguelike Spiritfall. It's currently in early access. Also about what Skooch said about ranged characters being easier. I think it's more so that ranged characters just fit his play style better. I excel at melee characters and really suck with ranged characters. I just can't get in the flow with them. I wouldn't say I find them hard, I just find melee so much easier. Also, we need to account for the fact that he didn't actually get a good build until he played his ranged character. The rest of his builds were smash attack oriented.
