Aki, noooo! You need to have the power set to "off" while you spin the flashlight so it has time to build up a charge. Then you turn it on. I really was hoping to see if it would work well when used as directed... but this was still entertaining. It's all good. This isn't meant to be a complaint, it's just feedback that nobody asked for lol.

@@LadyOcon Yeah, if that is actually a polymer you've probably made it non-compostable. And if you live in an area where waste water is turned into energy and/or compost then you are actively removing something that would be reused after dumping it down the drain, making it non-compostable, and instead turning it into garbage.

I think the broth hardener is just a hydrogel. It's a type of hygroscopic polymer that's pretty widely available worldwide (if nothing else, you can cut open a diaper to get some, or you could buy some Orbeez), but I wouldn't be surprised if Japan is the only country where it's marketed to make throwing out used broth easier. There's actually a lot of types of hydrogel, though, and I don't know how many widely-available ones are biodegradable, so if this one is, it might actually be unique, at least in terms of easily-obtained hydrogels.

i used to have a flashlight that was shake, not spin to charge. the way it works is that there's a piece of metal (I think) that moves near coils which basically takes advantage of kinetic energy to converts it to electric energy. i didn't need to shake it while using it when fully charged but it is definitely a workout. i assume it is a similar situation with the spinny flashlight.

When I was younger my mum forced all of us to carry a cranklight. Basically it was a flashlight with a crank on the side of it that popped out and allowed you to crank it and use it. It had a battery slot too, but it was an emergency light that would only stay on while cranking it if you didn’t have a battery. However, it didn’t take much effort and you didn’t have to crank it very hard to actually use it. Seemed like a better version of the flashlight you reviewed that was produced around 15 years ago.
