Very useful tip, you do not have to wait more than 15 min if the student is absent, check the cancellation policy.

normally I wait in the class for 15 minutes. if the student does not show up I will send them a message. Looks like were unable to attend class would you like to reschedule for a more convenient time. Then i will sign out 5 minutes later. If the student wants me to teach using Skype or whatsapp I will have preply open in the background just in case the student wants to say that I never showed up. I also insist that the students meet me on preply first and then we can go to another app if they want. I also send a reminder to the student after the first instance of this about my policy on no shows. If i am going to be more than 15 minutes late I will let the student know in advance. if the previous class is running a little over I will also let the student that I will be with them within 5 minutes. So far during my three years on preply I have only been absent twice and those were because of power outages. I live in Cambodia and brownouts happen. if I am unable to attend a class I alway apologize to the student and offer to reschedule the class.

In any situation like that, I try to remain philosophical, and as you say, do something constructive during the waiting time, maybe some uncomplicated knitting or crochet that I can just drop if the student suddenly appears. OR listen to a nice audio reading of a poem 🌻🌞

Hello there and thanks for your comment. Teaching online with Preply, I use their own platform to conduct lessons. If I am teaching privately, I would use Google Meet or Zoom. In terms of recording and editing the videos, I record the screen with Quicktime on my Mac and then edit videos with Final Cut Pro. I hope this helps answer your question.

What if the student doesn't show up during a trial class? As preply take 100% commission on trial classes, you cannot claim any compensation if the student doesn't show up, am I right? You just have to realize that you wasted time, meditate and accept it, nothing more, am I right? Thanks

When it is a TRIAL lesson, DO NOT reschedule the trial lesson as you will have long-term consequences on your profile. Your super tutor badge will be removed and other penalties will follow. Keep this in mind.

That is certainly true. Preply have recently updated their rules and rescheduling trials can go against your profile and lose that Super Tutor Badge.

I have a problem who never shows up nor communicate for many lessons. I’ve tried to communicate with her, asked her to reschedule if she won’t be available but she still doesn’t show up with no communication. She doesn’t confirm the lessons, and this is really frustrating. I want to cancel my subscription with her.
