    WOW. First off... thank you, I'll be putting in an order ASAP. I have a couple of Stam units already that sound incredible in their own right but WOW..... I don't think I've ever heard compression this good, outside of their StamChild 670 (I LOVE MY STAM 670!!!! WOW!!!). But this... oh my god.... this is seriously the cleanest, most forward before/after I think I may have ever heard in a demonstration. Just..... wow wow wow... thank you for this review. This is a game changer.

    A very impressive demo of this compressor. I too have a couple of Distressors and for as much as I love them as well, the 1176LN has what I call a 3D 'Bloom" that the Distressor just can't emulate. With regards to this compressor, without a direct comparison, I have the *impression* that the 76ADG has that 1176 magic. At a grand less than an 1176LN, I'd say this thing is a steal and a must have. Thanks for the great demo!

    Thanks David! You have the best reviews, genuine enthusiasm and use the best references. Do you plan to get a second model or will you make use of the 1 and try to do 2 separate bounces for stereo track- if so does that work very well?-using a mono compressor to do stereo things - like the drum track?

  • @mixbustv

    @mixbustv

    3 жыл бұрын

    You don't use a mono compressor for stereo tracks. Bouncing one channel at the time is definitely not a thing. I don't know if I'll add another one, I'm honestly considering it but also my use of the 76 has always been mono tracks, vocals, bass, mono crush drum or snare. Yet yesterday I was mixing and I had 2 vocals where I needed it so I had to print one, so yeah.. you kind of need two of everything when you actually mix

    I've been waiting for my unit for 15 months, before canceling my order. Today everyone receives their unit, I am even more pissed off !.. Hi David, Awesome video…fun seeing you get jazzed. Looking to add an 1176. This sounds great…but I’m thinking a lot about the Wes ng76. I know you’ve had both in your studio. Any thoughts, observations or recommendations? Thanks again for the work you put into the channel (BTW I bought a Stamchild love it) Take care, Jack

  • @mixbustv

    @mixbustv

    I still have both and use both. Well, you can't go wrong with either. Both are very versatile, slight edge to the Stam with 3 revs vs 2 the Wes, but Wes also has the THD. Digital control is also in favor of Wes, yet, the Stam is spot on on the vintage sound on all 3 Revs and the A is just killer. Purely for sound, Stam, a bit less juice or better, different but digital recalls, Wes.

    @@mixbustv After getting and loving the sound of the Stamchild, I figured I’d look at some of his other units. I already have a 33609 but NOT an 1176. I really like the sound you’re getting here, but I also dug what I heard in the Wes demo. The Stam seems more old school and visceral. I was kinda hearing the Wes as a more polite version of this circuit in the demos I’ve heard…but the side chain, and saturation features and recall, plus the ability to buy and sync a matched pair seems very attractive to the nerd in me. I’m leaning towards the Wes because of those things, plus I’m sure I can get it to sound very close to this. But this Stam gives me pause.

    So… I feel dumb saying this. For a long time, with your accent, I thought you were saying certain pieces of gear were “greedy” and it made a lot of sense to me: unapologetic, colored, and grabbing a lot of the signal, as opposed to tame and transparent. Now I am realizing you were probably saying “gritty”, which also totally makes sense. But I’ve been referring to aggressive compressors as “greedy” for a while now, because I think it’s a good description of the sound. 😅

    Hi David, just wondering if you were going to upgrade or get your hands on the newest version coming of this unit the ADF? This will essentially have 4 units in 1. Talk about a Swiss Army knife of 1176. I’m personally getting the new Stam 1073 EQ+ and can’t wait to start running my vocals through it. With the news of the SA-76ADF And this example of the ADG I’m extremely tempted to just get it and know I’m set for a long time to come.

    Yeah, Josh builds amazing stuff. I've had the opportunity to try a Stamchild. It's KILLER. Tried the SA47 as well, really amazing. The only thing is: the waiting time can be horrendously long. You're probably better off buying something Josh and his team already have in stock.

    Hey bro ! Thanks for the video. This compressor sounds amazing 😮 I’m planning on getting it. If I want to use it (for lead vocal) as hybrid and never touch it but push my audio into it, what would be the sweet spot setting for input and output ? Thanks 🙏🏼

  • @mixbustv

    One of the best things about the 76 (and this one is a superb one, actually 3) is that you can get so many different sounds based on how hard you drive I/O, so there's really no sweet spot, there are 50 of them. Sorry I know people want to hear a different answer but whoever tells you it's 9 o' clock and 11 o'clock shouldn't give mixing advices.

    Honestly is it a step ahead when comparing to uad plugins ? I did the test with uad 1176 AE using your uncompressed vocals for example, and in my home studio differences appear so small. I listen with Focal solo be6 monitors. So perhaps in tracking maybe it would be useful, but in mixing not so sure

    I own/use a Urei Rev D that I bought before prices went nuts, but have also used/owned UA reissues, Purple MC76, Warm, and Klark-Teknik. The Rev D has some magic and it's quite beautiful, but I would use the Warm or Klark-Teknik over the UA or Purple, irrespective of cost. None of the clones or reissues saturate as nicely as the Urei, but for 99% of applications I could sub in the Klark-Teknik or Warm and be 100% happy. I actually prefer the Klark-Teknik to the Urei on aggressive drum sounds (!)
