It's still hard to beat the very visceral feel and sound of petrol power. Along with the smell of freshly cut wood entwined with the exhaust fumes, particularly on a cold clear frosty morning ❤

Man that’s just life right there 20 years from now that will all be a memory
As a tree company business owner/operator. I like the battery for the fact that it’s quiet and it starts when you pull the trigger not having to pull start it. As a smart investment I am going with the Stihl ms201tcm gas/Petrol saw because when I show up to a job site I already have a few different saws with me that are gas. Stihl ms661 stihl ms462 stihl ms261. That covers all the size trees in need without having to stop and swap bars and chains. 2. I still have to put bar oil in both might as well top the bar oil off when I’m fueling the saw. 3 the run time. If I’m on several jobs all day I can keep working without having to charge/change batteries. Not to mention over time batteries get weak they do need to be replaced over time. Also the battery saw doesn’t come with battery or charger so that’s extra. When I’m up in a tree I can’t pick and choose how or what size the limbs are going to be. When I’m up in a tree I wanna get the limbs cut as safe and fast as possible. In a business time is money. Also someone mentioned about not wanting to drag a fuel can. What about dragging a charger or battery case and finding a place to plug the charger in out in the field or job site or pack enough batteries to keep working all day that’s added cost. Just my thoughts

Get you a little Honda generator or a Milwaukee power inverter
Battery saws are great for small, quick cuts. Gas saws are great for large long cuts. I prefer the Echo 2500t for a trim saw, and Husqvarna 540xp for larger wood.
Great video James! I've got both and it really depends on my mood as well as what I'm up against, how much I'm going to be cutting, etc, AND if I want to buggy lug another piece of baggage like the fuel can.
I run many brands and models of top handles in my business from echo Husqvarna and all the Stihl’s 151T 194T 201T and have a few 200t in the fleet I recently added the MSA220 and the only problem I have is the Weight compared to all the others in the Petrol class the 151 when tuned properly cuts as fast and is like holding a Silky when out on a limb and the rest for take downs
Battery for small liming works, petrol for the main cutting, great test James 👍👍

Completely agree Nev. sounds like the perfect set up 👌🏽
I'm in a situation where I've got the MSA 161t and a MS 151t, so in this instance, I'm really looking for a larger saw for bigger take downs, particularly with larger timber high up in the canopy. It's the MS 201t for me I think.
Both are great but I think for most work I would take the convenience of battery, not having to pull start and the fact that once you stop cutting it is silent, over the extra speed of petrol. There are some jobs though where you just want the extra power and batter isn't there yet.

Battery powered machines maybe good for some but i use alot of ryobi one+ tools and ive had them roughly 2-3 years now and im already noticing that the batteries aren’t lasting as long i also use a hla65 at work with an ap300 battery now the battery is fine does last long again stihl quality and i know its probably not the most powerful battery powered hedge cutter but every time i can guarantee a stem on a hedge will jam the blades and it just doesn’t have the torque to get through it where as the old smokey hs45 will do the trick every time id 100% go petrol every time in garden machinery the cost of some batteries out weighs the price of a petrol machine plus the fact is that if you look after your machines the less likely they are to need maintenance
I find it's not necessarily the size of cut I have to make that decides if I'm using petrol or battery, it's the cut intensity. If there is loads of cuts in quick succession petrol becomes more economical, taking a little longer on a big cut is fine, when there more interspersed
Hi James Nice One Have a good weekend thanks again
Awesome test well done, but im gona stick with petrol👍
Great test i.m still a petrol man.
Hi, as a professional arborist I've been waiting to see this test, any chance of doing it with husqvarna, I'd love to add battery to me fleet of saws, as started with the 020, still prefer me 201t over me TC & speed of cut is very important in some cases, but preferably all the time, plus the amount of batteries I need for a day, but always have a mix of fuel Not saying I won't, but they need to improve
interesting
Have a top handle mini mac for limbing on ground, looking for battery options. Hummmm
Top-handled chainsaws are only suitable for use off the ground. Operators must use rear-handled saws when working on the ground. Read this leaflet in conjunction with AFAG401 Tree-climbing operations, 402 Aerial tree rescue and 403 Mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) for tree work.19 Oct 2022

When you realize the battery saw is $500 more than the gas. You gotta ask yourself, why? Is it really that much better? You could literally buy another gas 194t or a Husqvarna for that price.

You are forgeting price of the gas though, but for random usage i guess the battery version is too expensive.

It’s a no brainer petrol all the way. Faster and cheaper plus you don’t need a box load of batteries to get through the day to hen have to spend all night swapping batteries on the charger ready for the next day.

The first answer is VIBRATION, when you use a chainsaw all day it make hell of a difference. The second answer is the sound, communication is a lot better on a work site. The third answer is don’t have to crank. Amen
You can do most of a take down with a 201, but in reality when you have oak like that most people would get a bigger saw. I don't know what I will do when it is time to change saws I might have an electric top handle.
Stihl really dropped the ball on the new battery top handle, especially when you compare it to the husqvarna and now even Milwaukee top handle.
Small thinning jobs or the odd dead branch removal fencing or noise sensitive sites will be ideal but all day use petrol wins hands down I’ve got 4 electric saws they do have their uses but could you imagine size battery you need on big saws like 661 or 88
Petrol has a more consistent power band than battery saws it will take another while before the technology is patented

True story
Has the battery saw got variable speed control? / can you feather the throttle like on a petrol saw?

Cheers and yeah , none of the electric saw review vids on KZread cover this most important factor ! Basically essential for proper saw control 🤷♂️
Petrol saws for the win. At least for now
Nice video James
Да аккамуляторным пилам ещё далеко до бензопил и зимой для батарей проблема мороза. 😂
The husky 540i is a beast. The others just don’t compare.
Im a fan of the battery gear but that Stihl battery saw sounds awful 😬 is the chain on backwards 🤣
I can't pull start any Stihl gas chainsaw, may be I can pull start this battery power Stihl saw.
Petrol all the way.
Battery are just not worth the investment yet for high power tools.
Battree saw have a place but Petrol saws are going NO WHERE anytime soon.

Is that you Greta?
Everyone times speed of actual cut but battery saw requires less time in other areas. You’re not stopping at gas stations, then stopping at hardware for 2-cycle, then mixing them, then transporting the smelly mix, then blowing cap clean, fueling it, getting gas can out of sun, pumping primer bulbs, choking, pulling cords, unchocking it, pulling cords some more, then finally starting the saw. Factor all that time in also. I’m a pro Arborist of 20 years and skipping that whole process (most days) has been absolutely life-changing. Especially the fumes and the noise abatement. Gassers are now just backups and rarely touched except 461 and up.

Only thing you’re waiting on with battery is for it to charge.
@richardbadish6990
4 ай бұрын
@FishFind3000 no not really. That should have been charged already and you should have a spare to be sufficient. Two batteries should get the tree down without a doubt. However it won't work if you are doing daily cutting.
Petrol❤
Gas is the way to go I don't care about all of them haters of chainsaw noise! I've used gasol's my whole life! Electric is not the future!
Don't forget electric
Until members of the European Union parliament and green peas ban the use of petrol devices, regardless of the severity category they belong to. According to the so-called economic law of price-quality ratio, gasoline will be the most optimal option for cutting wood and preparing firewood. And of course, if the neighbors are good and enduring the sound of petrol.
The battery saws are too problematic with plastic gears/internals wearing out quickly from instant torque, oilers, worm gears etc. Plastic parts all made in china making things even worse.
Petrol saw smells better, cuts better, sounds better. Battery saws suck
I don’t know if other arborists agree, that there are days where the sound of petrol chainsaws and chippers are mind numbingly irritating, on those days I like to be climbing and with my battery chainsaw and with my ear defenders on all day 😂.
People wanna go electric is the worst thing they can do petrol all the way
