This Story is Life Changing. | Endwalker Ending Reaction

Ойындар

No words can do Endwalker's finale justice. I thought 5.0 couldn't be topped until I experienced 5.3. But after 6.0's ending I truly can't decide where Final Fantasy's best moment lies...
I honestly don't think I'll ever get over this game, and I'm so thankful for this journey and every single one of you who have walked with me.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

FFXIV is such a special story. So many parts stand out as incredible, and I truly don't think there could have been a better ending to the Ascian story line that they've been working on since ARR. I feel blessed to be alive at the same time this story came out tbh. And, in true thematic relevance, I feel blessed to be alive period.

Initially, I was melancholic upon the realization that I may never experience another story as incredible as this one. But after some time of reflecting, even if nothing can compare to it, I will be forever thankful for the experiences it gave me. I'll carry it with me until my own final days. ❤️

I took the whole week off when Endwalker dropped. I played through the entire thing and had a couple days to let it sit with me. And when I got back to work, with my normal coworkers, who asked what I'd been doing on my week off, I found that I no longer had the ability to talk to normal people about this game in a way that didn't make me sound like I'd lost my mind. I tried to explain that I'd just played one of the most beautiful works of art I'd ever encountered, something that was among the funniest, saddest, silliest, scariest, most thought-provoking pieces of media I'd ever experienced, all at the same time. These are the good old days, and I hope they stay with us forever.

I had the same problem. I too took a week off and immersed myself. I didn't finish the game in that week (I play slow and enjoy) but a few days later. I too found it difficult to convey to friends and colleagues how I felt about the game. I could only describe it as a deeply emotional journey that confronted me with themes and experiences real life just won't be able to, unless you're in an actual terrible situation. In a way this game prepared me for the worst and gave me the tools to handle it. I feel like I, thanks to FFXIV, am more mature and emotionally wise. I find it difficult to recommend the game to other people, because if they play ARR they will declare me insane, due to its asinine and terribly-paced nature. It really is difficult to bring the "Just play 200 hours, it will be good then!" argument.

When Thancred died, part of me wondered if they would let him stay dead. I had him do the late-night visit, and in it he mentioned that he's worried he might not be able to think objectively, because he's got something to live for: Ryne. When he made the sacrifice play in that moment, I felt it completed his story arc, and he could leave the story safely. But then Estinien made the sacrifice, and I steeled myself. I figured out what kind of story they were going for: we would lose _everyone,_ but we would get them all back in the end. I didn't know exactly how, but Y'shtola hinted at it. Despite knowing this, when I got to this part, I told the twins "Not another word," because _I was starting to break._ And when we got them all back, when the spell went off, everyone came back, and the music swelled up only to go back to just the light piano... I cried. This sequence convinced me that just because a story is predictable, doesn't necessarily mean that it is bad. ------ Also, the trial is the first time I ever cried _during_ a boss fight. We had already *literally* shattered her world, and the prayers of our friends shattered her resolve. She goes from calm indifference to flailing and recoiling from us. The prayers from our friends, and our theme blaring triumphant... they made me feel like I was the embodiment of the Hope of the Universe. And then the lyrics kicked in, solidifying that link, and it broke the dam. I am proud that I was able to keep up my Gunbreaker rotation despite the tears flowing down my cheeks.

I think the point of the sacrifices they made was to affirm their faith in you. Even though they didn’t know if you would ever be able to bring them back, they see you as the best mankind has to offer, and knew you would do your best.

In Sharlayan there's a "Bespectled Technician" with a yellow side quest called "A Heartless Hypothesis". It's easily missed if you aren't an avid side quester like me. Much like Heavenswards "The Paths We Walk" I highly suggest you do it. It rewards an awesome Orchestration Roll (the song you hear when sparring with Venat actually). You also get to have some fun with a couple sidekicks from before.

Endwalker at launch was genuinely the closest thing I've ever had to a religious experience. The themes and messages woven throughout its story are spiritually important to me in a way that I can hardly begin to detail, and on top of that it capped off the story of a world that was my rock and the center of my social life throughout the loneliest days of the pandemic in 2020; the story of an intrepid Miqo'te adventurer-turned-hero that I had come to regard as an extension of myself, and of a close-knit group of companions who I'd grown to love like a family. Words cannot express how meaningful it was to see my Warrior of Light's name in the credits, and how moved I was by the end of it all. I'm only a recent viewer of your Endwalker video series, but it's been a joy to see your adventure unfold thus far. I'm very much looking forward to your next video!!

I feel that between Shadowbringers and Endwalker we've had two different kinds of foil for 'us'. Elidibus, as his Warrior of Light, was our in-character counterpart. He fougth for the duty of his people but eventually lost. Zenos is more the foil for us as a player. And most importantly the MSQ-playing player... He is the powerleveller. He skips the cutscenes and pushes through to get into the raids, the extremes, the savages. He doesn't care for all the trappings and tedium of plot. And 'you', his 'counterpart'. Thrust into this world (Character creation), bestowed a name... The game/developers asking YOU 'was it worth it?'. :)

Something that may be lost on folk initially since it’s been so long that makes Emet and Hyth’s gift to us at the end more touching. Emet watched as over half his world was given over to Zodiark, and challenged that in our time our people wouldn’t when we confronted him in Amaurot. Alphinaud shirks from the challenge. But that challenge was already met first by G’raha’s doomed timeline when they sent him away with the Crystal Tower. A whole future world was given up and their lives cut free from time so we could avoid a Calamity. Then we do it again when the people of Etheirys give up fleeing the final days to send us to confront Meteion. We met his challenge twice over. When we call Emet and Hyth back to our sides they’re able to reenforce Ultima Thule. Through their effort we can do what Emet never was able to do in his life. Bring our friends back. “In case the practical implications where lost on you, your comrades no longer need fight their fight”. His friends, Hythlodaeus, all the people who sacrificed themselves to summon Zodiark couldn’t be returned. Only our friends can be returned because of Emet and Hyth’s efforts. We are allowed to have back what Emet couldn’t get back himself, and he and Hyth make that possible. The parallels are beautiful and painful. Also, a cherry on top. Hythlodaeus’s wish to return to the Star with Emet and Azem when their work is done is partially realized. But only because Hythlodaeus knows that we’ll succeed. Not because we’re a sundered shard of his beloved friend, but because we have become his friend in our own right, and Hythlodaeus has always believed and lived for his friends.

  • @bucca2

That first point is so important to me. Not only did the citizens of the doomed timeline give up half of their number, they gave up all of themselves. Because they believed in a better life they would never get to see. Because the WoL inspired them to see that even though their fellow man was the reason why they were in this hopeless situation to begin with, hope for their fellow man is what sustained them. Even 2 years later, I still cry every time I think about Shadowbringers and Endwalker’s themes.

I've been playing this for 9 years now and it still is a joy and delight to play and watch others play :) So many characters wormed their way into our hearts and even after all these years I cry the moment I see something of Haurchefant or G'raha. And now Hythlo, Emet and Themis joined the club. They're all dearly missed, I consider Themis and Graha my son's, as many others do one way or another I assume xD Just like Alphinaud, Alisei, Estinien and so on, all of them are so beloved by the community and it makes me so happy to see you cry and break down just like I did. It's so heartbreaking, but beautiful at the same time. But I think we should all smile, because a smile better suits a hero.

i have so many thoughts on this phenominal ending but i will settle for these 2 (and a half) for now. First, i can finally add context to my claim in a previous comment that dynamis is not the (entire) reason for Limit Breaks! I'm freeee! hahahaha. Basically, this place is made of Dynamis and lacks pretty much any aether, so OF COURSE it is dynamis in this specific instance, but Etheirys is so aether-dense that you couldn't possibly collect enough dynamis to pull off the same level of Ability as we know that dynamis is a much weaker source of power that is just more generally plentiful in the space between stars. It has to be aether, but people just assume it's always dynamis because of like this 1 time instance even though they explained how weak dynamis is and how little of it is on our star. That was why I called it misinformation before. You also finally have the requisite experience to watch some of the lore videos on the topic! I highly recommend Synodic Scribe's Limit Break vid. He's much smarter than me and has much more knowledge on these sorts of things. Second, the phase 2 theme for The Endsinger is especially cool when you realize it's YOUR phase 2. The main motif of the theme is from "Maker's Ruin" (you do ruin gods after all) and is used all the time in scenes that heavily focus on the player as far back as phase 1 of Ultima Weapon, when you hear it you won't ever unhear it. She thinks she's killed you, but then she gets a cutscene and YOUR theme plays and that's the coolest shit ever. She goes from being so calculated to basically flailing desperately at you as the hope of your friends overpowers her. YOU were HER final boss as much as she was yours. Editing to also add, some people think it was Zenos' wishes who summoned your teleporter back to you, but it could have also been yourself or your friends or Meteion. I like to think they leave it open for each person to answer based on what best suits their personal narrative, a lot of people hated Zenos after all.

As much as I do not like Zenos - and please don't bother arguing with me on that, folks, he was wrong about me the entire time because I'm not the kind of player he's addressing - that moment was *flawless*. Because of course it was him. Who else would be fool enough to chase us to the end of the universe and then have the nerve to ask how we haven't killed the final boss yet?

As someone who's an emotional husk, watching your playthrough has been quite the experience Though I normally understand the emotion of the moment I hardly ever can "feel" it (which has many times made writing about my WoL hell since she's a semi-self-insert and thus, is every bit as dry as me), but accompanying someone so unapologetically willing to feel not only for himself but for other characters as well has been less "a breath of fresh air" and more "being reminded to breathe at least every once in a while" Not like your emotions have been all there is to it, time and time again I would hear your theories and go "Oh wow, that was spot on, nice!" Or "Good lead, a bit off-center but the logic was on-point", I always enjoy those moments where someone picks up on the smaller details and figures out what is going to happen, much because I do it all the time I guess what I mean to say is, thank you for letting us reach this end with you, and let us move onwards to Newfound Adventures (With a doubled facial rigging budget apparently because holy hell the expressions from this point in gets so much better to where I wouldn't be surprised if things were already being worked on with the 7.0 graphic update in mind)

In my 25 or so years of gaming, I've never played a game like FFXIV and probably never will again. The story up to the conclusion of Endwalker is truly something remarkable. A work of art that encompasses so many facets of life beyond a simple game. What an experience.

Sorry to say I chose the first option to Zenos, rejecting his help I may have come to really enjoy him as a character (from actively disliking him in SB), but I play my WoL as his own living character up to building his entire backstory and personality. And my WoL *hates* Zenos' guts and wants nothing to do with him. He was as exasperated as ultimately grateful by his appearance.

One thing no one have consider is that WE ARE NOW AN ASCIAN, remember the words in the Warrior Of Light fight, "the 14th seat of the convocation is yours..." or when you summon Emeth the last time... "And so, as show of respect to the LAST OF US...." or when we are in Alpys, our soul color is the same an Ascian...
