We definitely are alone in the universe. I believe God chose us to be the only ones with the full ingredients for life. Now it's our turn to pro-create life onto other planets and galaxies until we fill it up and all of its galaxies using wisdom only He can teach us because He is the architect. Without God's help, we shall absolutely either fail to dominate the universe He gave to us, or if we reject Him we shall never succeed by our limited science alone, which is also too slow to find answers which are right on God's fingertips. Just a prayer away.

So true, I love looking at it and learned so much. But still don't see how knowing about black holes can help make life on earth better... Sometimes I wonder why even know this stuff aside for asteroids, meteor's, the sun and moon. Those are the only things that directly affect the earth aside from humans. So why is knowing what Pluto looks like such a big deal. Just throwing my thoughts out there, no one has to respond.

It's not a mystery. All the other stars are just like our own solar system. There is a Sun and several planets are circling around it. All exotic phenomena are made up by scientist and astrologers for fund raising.

Our Sun is just a yellow dwarf star. It will turn into a red giant in coming 3-4 billion years when it will eat up mercury Venus and even Earth. Betelgeuse- 800 times Sun radii Canis Majoris - 1200 times Uy Scuti - 1500-1600 times Stephenson 2-18 - 2000 times And there may be even more bigger ones which are yet to be discovered.

Some more interesting facts: 1) There are over a 100 million black holes in the Milky Way galaxy alone 2) There's a pulsar(a type of neutron star) that spins 716 times a second 3) It would take a modern spacecraft 450 million years just to get to the center of our own galaxy 4) It rains diamonds on Jupiter and Saturn 5) There's a planet made of diamonds that's twice the size of the earth 6) If two pieces of the same metal just touch each other in space they will be bonded together permanently

We walked past a beggar asking for money, and the Universe chinned him, took his jubbly out, and had a wee wee all over the beggar while tunelessly whistling the "Three Blind Mice" ditty as he wee'd on the beggar. Indeed. But atoms are even smaller than us and that doesn't mean they are insignificant just because are very small. They made up everything like planets, stars, galaxies. So it's just another perspective to look at the things. The size or dimensions of a thing is just a human construct.. the universe doesn't care so much about which is more or less important.

A good way to see how vast the Sun is in comparison to the Earth is that the Sun itself comprises 99.8% of the total mass of the whole Solar system - that's planets, Kuyper belt, Oort cloud, and all of that.

I remember hearing how people would used to say that Jupiter is so large, it nearly became a star, along with those badly proportioned diagrams of the solar system, you'd think it was smaller than the sun by not too much. Years later, I hear about that 99.8% fact, and I feel like I've been lied to my whole life...

Another way to visualize how big the galaxy is... If you were on a planet orbiting Proxima Centauri, the stars in the sky would look the same as they do on Earth.

I think it's funny that the diameter of the sun is pretty close to what the distance between sun and earth is. Well, if you just ignore the few thousand kilometers. Which on this scale again really isn't much.

Thank you for the video. Most probably these hyper giants will be dwarfed by other stars in the universe. Humans didn’t even scratch the surface of knowing what is out there.

For perspective we are unbelievably small in comparison to the rest of the universe

These are quite small in size, ranging from a field to the order of the size of earth-like planets. Of course, I am not including massive, supermassive or ultramassive blackholes, since these objects are not formed during the usual life cycle of a star, but probably grow up gradually by consuming matter.

We honestly don't know what the biggest thing is because we can only see so far even with the most advanced telescope in space. No one knows what's beyond what our telescopes can see. I can't even begin to grasp how big our sun is let alone something way bigger. Space is the just magical, amazing, and scary as hell all at once.

It is a theoretical impossibility for any star to exist that is anywhere near even a thousand times the size of the sun, much less 10BN. You are well into supermassive black hole territory at 1BN solar masses, and ultramassive BH territory at 10BN+.

Estimated Mass divided by volume. It's not precise.

What is so interesting is that we can create a vehicle that can reach these objects and send back information over decades, but we cannot make a vehicle to run water instead of gas…

He's saying that astronomy is entirely observational. Much of what we know is really more of a guess based on what we see and can calculate based on said observations.

Rocket Scientist, That goes for EVERY science. All sciences (chem, physics, bio, geology, oceanography, etc) are "observational". Any math that is used has been derived from observations (or has been derived from math derived from observations). And we can know A LOT from observations in astronomy! We can directly measure many things. For example, the science of spectroscopy allows us to determine the chemical compositions of stars and planetary atmospheres. That info can be used to calculate temperatures, densities, etc. We can know masses & densities of planets by observing their orbital periods & applying things like keplers laws. We can know distances to objects using parralax observations that use the exact same principle of triangulation that construction surveyors use to build highways. So beyond all that, I still don't understand what OPs point is. Or yours, for that matter.

​@@beta_cygni1950 The keyword in my statement is "purely" not "observable." Yes, you observe things also in physics, bio, chemistry etc... But they are not a "purely observable" science. You can mix chemicals to force a reaction. You can push balls down a ramp to observe the effects of gravity. You can break open a rock to observe its inner geological features. In astronomy, you can only observe and cannot perform active experiments physically onto what you're looking at to test the results. Yes, there are calculations based on theory and within our understanding, a lot of the assumptions made are good ones, but we can't physically test any of it or go there to confirm for sure. And even with theories which we can test, we're never fully certain, just more sure. There's a lot of weird things going on in the Universe which we do not understand and have made best guesses on such as dark matter and dark energy. Parallax is certainly a proven method to determine the distance of something, or the "depth" of an object. But it only works so far. We have some methods which seem to be reliable but not with definite certainty because it requires other assumptions for it to be true. For example, measuring distances by redshift. Redshift assumes that the expansion of the Universe is true and we believe we have evidence that it is based on the BG cosmic radiation, but these small observations are still probably a best guess as to what's actually going on, and there isn't a physical way to test these theories; we can only observe and think and calculate based on known with most certainty theories. Wouldn't it be crazy if physics breaks down when you get to the scale of multiple galaxies/the Universe? How would we even know if this is true? Right now, we are plugging in this mysterious thing called "dark matter" to justify the physics of a galaxy. My bet is that we just don't really know what's going on and until we learn some new things, we're not going to figure it out by just watching what we've already seen and running the equations we know, which require plugging in some unknown gravity that we have no proof of other than the math says it "must" be there. Anyway, the OP is claiming that you can't know someone's age (with certainty) by only observing the person. And this is mostly true. We can make a best guess based on observations, but it requires more investigation to find out. We CAN investigate further to find the age of a person, but it requires more than simply looking at them. I'd love to see you pull out the birth certificate for our Universe to prove me wrong!

Great point Alan as I have posted the same concern on other science videos. Those numbers they use are o confusing that you can't really have an idea of the distance. Kilometers wasn't something we really had to learn that much although it might have been presented to many of us. Our Government stuck with miles as the standard to measure distance not Kilometers. When folks start talking about Kilometers, I go to something else

No, that's plain stupid to believe. Stars are extremely dense and hot inside. The universe is icecold at 0K. It is impossible that there are void places within a star, like the Boötes Supervoid. So no, the universe is most definitely not an expanding star.

I wished you would say it also in Miles. In America we use the imperial system. Only 3 countries use this system. US, Liberia and Myanmar. We have to convert Kilometers to Miles to get the understanding. Lol, just a little gripe about this beautiful, knowledgeable video. I love this video

He is everlasting, and outside of time. He created this universe and He created us. as Jesus said I am the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE. I don't know if they cover it in here, but UY Scuti has a diameter of Saturn's orbit.

Fun arithmetic - if the sun were the smallest dust mote, it's nearest sister star would be more than 30Km (20 miles) away. The rest of that 50,000 cubic mile bubble would be empty. Just one dust mote.
