Here are my two cents. When fishing docks and large structure areas I use DOA as their action does better than gulp. On flats and mangroves, I use gulp as the smell out preforms action in that scenario.

I have such a love/hate relationship with the Gulp shrimp. They are by far the best artificial shrimp lure. It such a stupid design but I swear the scent is everything. I buy strictly the 4 inch so I can rig them on a 4/0 weedless swimbait hook. The 4inch skip perfecting into the mangroves and rarely get snagged. If you know there is fish in the area, slowing down with these always catches multiple fish in a day. I caught my PB trout on a white gulp a couple hundred yards from where you caught yours and it was also 25 inches. Maybe it was the same fish? lol

I just hate how they get destroyed after one or two bites. I have more success with zman shrimpz and procure tbh. It’s a whole lot easier on the wallet too.

  • @TheAlexSpanky

@@aaronhiggs yea that's really the only con I have about Gulp Shrimp. After skipping mangroves for 30-45 mins or catching a fish or two, its time to put on a new one. Also it's probably just good practice to do so because they do loose scent after a while. I agree its expensive but when the fishing is tough I'm willing to spend the extra 6 bucks to catch a couple fish. It can make the day, and I've already invested money in gas and my time. I love zman / procure as well. I think you have to reapply the procure too often for me. I use it on a lot of my paddle tail/swim baits but its like every few casts and its gone. Its all a trade off in the end. I wish I could just fish topwater all day everyday lol.

Gulp is the best for the most bites. When it comes to catching bigger fish, DOA shrimp tipped with fish bites, and paired with the rattle is hard to beat. Gold glitter shrimp color. Depends on how your fishing though, as pitching mangroves will produce no matter what if they are impact striking. Keep Slaying!

I rediscovered the Gulp Shrimp 2 weeks ago. I'd been killing it with the 5 inch jerk baits for a while now but I noticed that I never catch redfish on them, not once in 3 years. Well, 2 weeks ago the bite was slow so I switched to the gulp shrimp to see if a change helped matters. Within 10 casts, nailed a 36 inch red. Turns out I was sitting on redfish heaven and they just don't like my jerk bait. I picked up several hefty brutes. I had the trout, snook and red, so I put on a big Xrap to try for a tarpon, another big red inhaled it. Thank god for inline hooks, took me about 10 seconds to get that red free of the plug. I always hated using plugs until inlines became a thing.
