This Session Is Going To Be Different
Starring Michael Hyatt
Featuring Rachel Bloom
Written by Rachel Bloom, Adam Schlesinger, Jack Dolgen
DR. AKOPIAN
This session
Is gonna be different
It's gonna be so different
I know
This patient
Won't be indifferent
This time around
She'll want to grow
I've been burned
So many times
By the girl who's committed
So many burn crimes
Yet I never
Lost hope or endurance
Thank God I don't accept
Health insurance
I charge 250 dollars an hour now.
This session
Is gonna be useful
If she's truthful
About how she feels
So I'll give it my all
With my requisite therapy shawl
Kiss my fancy degrees on the wall
For good luck
That it's gonna be different
I can help her be different
Sweet Jesus, it has to be different
'Cause if it's not
I fucking quit!

As a therapist i can confirm yes. Although this is a little warped which makes sense since we know it's through Rebecca's eyes - It would be rare to get so frustrated with one specific client but it can definitely feel like you're not making progress with anyone and have times where you want to give up.

It's not every show where when you have somebody going to therapy, you actually see how the therapy affects the therapist. Which makes sense from a storytelling aspect because therapy in stories is usually focused on providing the audience the inner thoughts feelings of a charecter, and also emotional labor is a therapists literal job, but it's nice that she is actually a charecter in CEG
@julierose2398

I actually interpreted this as another flavour of “You Stupid Bitch”. Notice that this is one of Rebecca’s mind songs, not something Dr A is actually saying. I’ve seen videos by therapists who are much more sympathetic to clients who mess up.
"Requisite therapist shawl" - lmao!! That and the chunky necklace comment make me think the writers know a thing or two about therapist fashion.

Ever since Dream Ghost, I've been waiting for a Dr. Akopian song again. So glad it happened!!! And this episode was GREAT. So much character development, so many emotions. The conversation between WhiJo and Josh those 8 months prior was hilarious. Rebecca feeling she doesn't deserve love was so sad. And also - I'm so happy Seneil is back!! I thought we wouldn't see him again and I really liked him! It sucked to see his falling out with Paula, thankfully that didn't last very long.

@@12345678abracadabra nope! mixing is actually singing term, with women's ranges there are different terms for how you use your voice. head voice (think falsetto for guys) and chest voice most commonly- belting is using your chest voice, and mixing is a sort of cross between the two, definitely a great technique but it's impressive that she did this song entirely belting. i'm no music student so someone chime in if explained this badly :)

I don't know what that means
I have been waiting for a Cabaret parody from this show for the longest time... Thank you Rachel.
One of the BEST songs of this season! Her voice is AMAZINGGGGG and we were so overdue for an Akopian solo!! Musical, plot-driving, funny, character-building....did I mention BEAUTIFULLY MUSICAL?! All the best elements of CEG songs!!
HER-VOICE-IS-EVERYTHING. MY GOOOOOD, SHE'S SO DAMN GOOD!
I feel like sending this to my therapist.
Dr Akopian would rock at having her own spin off show
Only now has it hit me that this is (probably?) how Rebecca thought Dr. Akopian felt because she was projecting her own hope that something would finally change with therapy. She had had many sessions and no difference. It's just that the frustration and hope that Dr. Akopian shows seem so Rebecca like
love the "maybe this time" vibes ❤
My god that voice- imagine her and Donna doing a duet. Such strong badass female voices. Also I thought Rebecca was gonna say « Seems like just yesterday I was here. Stealing pills off of your bathroom floor. « lol
A Dr. Akopian song ?? This is so unexpected and wonderful
Happy Mental Health Month! I dedicate this song to all therapist
This song is everything I never knew I needed
I literally gasped
I dont know how they did it but they took the anger from Chicago and the inspiration oassion and hope from Cabaret mixed the songs to create a beautiful combination
this is genuinely such an amazing song
Love Dr.Akopian, so glad she's back! Michael Hyatt is extraordinary
One thing I'm really sad we didn't see is Dr Akopian's response to Rebecca's final breakthrough.
She deserves so many more songs
As a therapist, this is song is too real
A JAZZ SONG THANK YOU VERY MUCH RACHEL
She looks so beautiful in this
I remember hearing her say "maybe this time" and me jokingly singing the first notes of "Maybe This Time". Then I heard the accompaniment and realized this song is a reference to Cabaret.
My therapist is probably singing this right now
Wow what an opening song for this episode, bloody brilliant 💕
Dr. Akopian is my favourite character she feels relatable Michael took it away in season 2 with her voice but also you really hope she could "fix" Rebecca
I want more songs with her. She's amazing
Maybe this time😀😀😀😀
I need a Dr. Akopian in my life.
Hearing "I fucking quit" just ruins the actual show for me cause its so much /better/
This sounds kind of like a “Maybe this Time” spin-off and I love it.
