Yeah I remember all this happening and what really got be bawling on stream was that in a weird symbolic way you could see the person under the covering instead of Amanda was Lance and in a sense it was Zavala mourning Lance kinda like those depictions of characters mourning their voice actors when they pass. One thing that really pissed me off though during the week of this mission was the dumbasses that make up the bad apples of this community bitching at Bungie saying how this was in poor taste and was bad timing. Like how the fuck were they suppose to know Lance was going to pass? All content is made months even a year ahead of time and some people were just too stupid to realize that, but I was happy to know that those opinions were pushed to the side and instead we remembered the man Lance was and how amazing and talented of a person he was. He'll always be our Commander, but I'm so happy Keith David was chosen to carry on the character and he did such a great job!

Btw if you want a theoretical gut punch. In a future world where Amanda is rezed by a ghost, she would quite literally be Crow 2.0. She wouldn't remember anything, shed be a new person effectively. And Crow would be in Mara's shoes, seeing someone he knows and cares about, but they wouldn't recognize or know him. So thats some possible future trauma

Hearing Zavala pleading to the traveler in front of Amanda‘s body just a few days after Lance’s passing is probably one of the moments in this franchise that’s hurt me the most. This season had a lot of similar vibes that the Red War did, probably in part because we get to visit the farm again. I think that was a good touch, to have something so grounded after all the craziness in the main Lightfall campaign.

asher was actually teased since season of the splicer. There was a friendly harpy doing morse code in the final mission saying: assistant. You could also see him slightly during the vex missions in lightfall.

I ran the vexcalibur mission myself after watching this season and was a bit upset that Esoterickk did't get close to the "ghost" in the vilk because it was VERY CLEARLY ASHER MIR. 😅

​@terabellum I hope you ran it enough times to access all the secrets. Some of the best in-game lore shows up in exotic missions but takes multiple runs to unlock, and it's criminal that "all cutscene" videos like this don't actually include them all.

To answer your question about where Mara's power's come from, Awoken magic is a combination of Darkness and Light alike The Awoken are very in tune with the universe and it's primordial essence, they walk a very thin line of Light and Dark (which explains Uldrens final words in Forsaken and why the taken Riven so easily corrupted him) The Awoken where originally created by the Witness from Humans that fleed Earth during the Collapse, one of the Exodus Ships managed to leave Earth and was trying to escape when the Witness attacked but they where caught, the Witness offered the people on the ship a bargain, they would be spared if they stayed out of it's way during the attack on Earth, the crew agreed and where transported into an alternative dimension of Light and Dark where those Humams became the first Awoken, Mara and her Brother left that dimension together with a bunch of her followers to take the fight against the Witness and aid Humanity while the rest of their people stayed behind and kept true to the bargain

Okay, so I have a fair bit to say about Eramis. So, she claims that we have mercilessly slaughtered her people for centuries but completely ignores the fact that her people invaded our home, kicked us while we were down, slaughtered us in droves and tried to rob us of what little we had left. And she has the effing gall to be offended that humanity fought back. That we, the Guardians, defended our people from these alien barbarians who attacked us for no reason, after we had just suffered the collapse of our civilization, our own Whirlwind. We could have been allies from the start, but instead, they attacked us out of greed and spite. Misraaks and the House of Light are proof of what Humanity and the Elinski could have had together. Instead, the Fallen chose violence and Pikachu-faced when we responded in kind. And now, she's so blinded by misplaced rage, hate, and vengeance that she's sided with the Witness, the very thing that destroyed her civilization and robbed her of her wife and children. Make no mistake, Eramis is in the wrong. No ifs, ands, whats or buts. So, yeah... uh, sorry for the rant... 😅 Anyways, love your reactions, and I simply cannot wait for more! 👍😁👍

That's the history we were taught, but there's a very good chance it's not entirely true. When the Eliksni arrived in the aftermath of the collapse, Earth was not their sole or primary destination; they settled on a number of planets, moons, and asteroids throughout the system. When they first arrived, did they raid human settlements or just try to survive alongside us? We don't know. No human still alive remembers, and none of our records are trustworthy. (However, several Eliksni we know, including Eramis and Misraaks, WERE there.) What we do know for certain is that we fought with them over territory and resources, just as we fought each other for the same things. Fighting escalated to war, fueled both by the desire to survive and a generous degree of xenophobic tribalism on BOTH sides. War and desperation led to atrocities on both sides, the same kinds of atrocities both sides committed against their own people. So yes, it's true we've mercilessly slaughtered their people for centuries, and it's true that they've done the same to us. We've also mercilessly slaughtered our own people, as have they. The wounds carved between humans and Eliksni are long and deep and will not heal quickly. But there's no finger we can point at them that we cannot also point at ourselves, and the sooner that truth is accepted by everyone, the sooner those wounds can begin to heal. Season of the Splicer was the first step in that direction, but there are leagues of ground still to cover.

As much that sucked to watch. That explosion would've made Micheal Bay both proud and cream his pants.

I can't remember if they ever said why they kidnapped people, so here it is. It was to deprive us of hope. The Witness could have quite literally done what it did to those ships in lightfall's opening to entire worlds but it chose not to. Not out of pity or hopes of coaxing us to it's side but because it is a cruel god. Anything and anyone touched by the Traveler it ensures that they're last moments are filled with pain, suffering, and hopelessness.

Lance Reddick passed away on Mar 17. On Mar 22, weekly reset revealed Amanda's fate. The D2 community was still raw and grieving for Lance when we saw Zavala on his knees saying "Devotion, Bravery, Sacrifice...". It was the first time an emotional moment in a video game actually hurt me so, so deeply. On a side note; the Chaperone is Amanda's shotgun. There's a whole lot of lore around that shotgun, the Tex Mechanica foundry, and the early days of the City Age.

Just to help clear a few things up without spoilers (long message alert) it was mentioned Devirm had a partner all the way back in red war, tho its only mentioned like once by hawthorn, and its implied they are Hawthorn's adoptive family, the rest of the relationship is talked about in lore tabs, theres even one where he invites Saint to have dinner and tea at Devirm's house to clear his head during the time Osiris was in his coma. Amanda and Crow have had a relationship in the background since Season of the Hunt and Chosen when Crow still wore his mask. Theres actually a lot of cute lore entries of them being awkward with each other, and Amanda being really accepting of him needing to wear the mask. It then kinda falls apart in Lost when he gets his memory back, and if you remember she kinda snaps at him in Haunted in that radio message. Then this season comes along and punches you in the gut.....doubly so if you're up to date on the lore tabs and remember haunted Asher didnt die when the planets got taken. The last transmission we got from him said he was going to head into the pyramidon (the vex strong hold on IO) on throw himself into the lake, since he was being corrupted anyway and see what secrets he could learn or what power he could steal. Him still being alive in the network was actually teased in splicer, with the same blue harpy. The one BIG thing this recap doesnt cover is in the last run of Avalon he shows you that the vex have a whole file and simulation of the Veil, presumably given to them by the Witness, which then leads to them building black heart, like Osiris said in that one Lightfall quest. The last important thing is you and the Vanguard now have that data to learn more of wtf the veil is. Also I might suggest giving one of Byf's recent videos a watch once you're totally done with the seasons, hes got a newish video out about the Witness's motivations and what not thanks to the collectors edition lore books. It actually does a great job of explaining some of the weirdness the witness does, especially the whole "waiting" thing. If you do check it out its the video "why the it hates us"

Before Crow revealed who he was to everyone and got his memories back, Amanda and Crow were kinda dating. When she found out who he was, she broke it off out of anger. She's been keeping her distance since then. Asher Mir didn't die, but he merged himself with the Vex Network to try and help the Vex that don't follow the witness to fend it off

58:40 Holliday and Caitial bonded over piloting airships. They held similar feelings for flying as Caitial was once a star pilot in the Cabal military.

Mara's powers come from light and dark, during the collapse the exodus green was caught between the light and dark in this moment a singularity was made and they were sent to the distributary were the awoken were made, in the season of the haunted when the nightmare of uldren tell him "how you begged for her to save us, turn us awoken" it's quite literal

Basically the whole ship's crew was turned into the awoken, after many years Mara and a bunch of awoken left the distributary to help humanity, that's why you can also play as one

Fuck sake. I didnt play this season. I found out Amanda died from a meme. I was livid, as she was my favorite character after Cayde. This was my first time seeing this season too. Watching this at work trying to not cry was hard. Just finished the video, and i cant wait to see how the next few seasons go for you, Terra. As for everyone, stay safe. We live in interesting times.

1:02:07 At the risk of making you cry some more, I have to say that this hits really hard knowing that the Zavala origin trailer shows Zavala helping finish work on the Last City and noticing a young Amanda being inspired to become a pilot. Like, he's been there for most of her life after her mother passed getting her safely to the Last City, she's practically a daughter to him. ALSO, this playthrough you're watching ran up to him too quickly! If you hang back before triggering Zavala's speech you can witness a candid moment of him saying something over Amanda's grave: "Devotion... Bravery... Sacrifice..." The guardian credo. The Speaker's motto. The Traveler's requirements. Zavala is literally praying to the Traveler hoping that it sends a Ghost to Amanda to bring her back to him. Even after coming to terms with his guilt over Safiya and Hakim where his guilt tells him the Traveler is his God but his heart tells him the Traveler is not his God, Amanda meant so much to him that he could not help himself and tried anyway. And when we finally approach him, then he admits that he knows it is a lie, that at every loss the Traveler is silent. It cannot do this for us. 1:05:16 Also, this line is even more depressing than Queen Mara lets on here. If you look into her own origin story, the very reason she was the First Awoken and basically god of the Distributary is because when their colony ship was pulled into the singularity formed from the battle between the Traveler and the Black Fleet, Mara was closest to the event horizon... because she was on a space walk... because she was trying to kill herself. She has been cursed with eternity, and yet managed to realize it was her calling, to help save humanity with her curse.

Hey Terra, to clear up some confusion with Asher Mir. he did not "die" so much as enter the Pyrmiridion moments before Io was taken by the darkness. We havent seen him since. However, and I was disappointed this wasnt shown in season of the splicer, back when Lakshmi-1 opened a vex gate in the Eliksni quarter, if you explore the area, you will find 1 friendly vex standing next to a computer terminal that is a carbon copy of the one Asher stood next to when you visited him in Io. The friendly vex would beep and boop and the community determined it was morse code. when Deciphered, the beeps and boops translated to: Assistant. If you recall, Mithrax was trying to figure out what the signal was saying and said it was asking for Assistance, but determined he translated it wrong. The network wasnt asking for assistance, it was asking for an assistant! P.S. There have been multiple references in the past regarding Devrim's partner. There was a radio transmission between Devrim and Ana where he invited her over to his place for a spot of tea with him and Mark. Ana asked for Oolong with a spot of honey.

If any questions on why the Witness was taking prisoners... no one knows. My theory is that since this runs alongside Lightfall is to keep the focus of the Vanguard off the Traveler and the Witness. It was just chilling, holding the Traveler in stasis with the Pyramids surrounding it and so I think that taking prisoners both demoralises the City and distracts the forces of Humanity in orbit. It knows that once it's in the Traveler, no one can follow it

14:45 this is pretty insightful, it means the Pyramid Ships, arent entirety just ships, but part of the Witness itself, an extension of its will

I hadn't listened to Zavala's speech since I played it myself and I still just got just as emotional. Zavala was always one of my favorites, reminded me so much of my stepfather who raises me. Lance passed just a few days before very suddenly - many guardians actually held vigil at the tower to mourn the loss of our commander over that weekend. Myself included. You might still be able to find video of how many guardians gathered to pay our in game respects. Then that speech and mission dropped the next week. It shattered myself and a few friends I play with to hear Lance give that speech. I avoided watching you react to this season till now cuz this season ended up just holding so much more weight for me personally because of Lance's passing. RIP Lance, you will always be our Commander.

Regarding those left behind in arrivals, as known at that time. Asher walked into the Pyramidion, unhindered and allowed by the Vex there. He reached the lake where he lost his arm and brought it down upon him. Sloane equipped a golden age mechsuit to battle the Black Fleet. Brother Vance sealed the Infinite Forest before the Black Fleer could reach it, and gouged the eyes of a doppelganger that made it through.

I know you read a lot of the istar collective lore. The Solstice Gauntlets Rekindled lore features Zavala demanding Amanda evacuate him from the City when it falls in the Red War because otherwise she'd never leave. I've always been a sucker for the found family thing they have going on. Season of the Haunted was so painful, then this... it destroyed me. PS: Devrim and Marc are the cutest, and all the lore about them is fantastic and worth it. Check out the Rain of Fire lore if you want to hear Marc fawn over his partner.

"Amanda's death didn't really hurt me, it was watching all the other characters mourning her loss" well this was one hell of a weird video to watch the day before my grandma's funeral, whose death didn't really hurt me but whose loss is really affecting my family whom I care deeply about. thanks for the very unexpected catharsis from a destiny video i guess /heartfelt

I do wish now and again that we got to have more Amanda interaction before this season to make it a bit more impactful for us as the player as well, but even still this season was fun. Not to mention the Avalon mission, be sure to play through it time and again for all the secrets!

I think our "reward" for stopping the threat against the traveler that its fled from for so long will in fact be exactly what you said Terra. Also i love how Mithrax says "our" sky now.

Fun fact: There’s only two (maybe 3) Kells left that we know of in the Elksni’s Houses. Missraks and Eramis. It’s hard to tell if Variks is considered to be the Kell of House Judgement or not as he’s the only member that we know of that makes up the House. But he’s also still only a Vandal and not a Captain like Missraks and Eramis.

Mara's power is paracausal in nature and intentionally kept vague, we can assume that it's a result of whatever linked the Awoken when Mara entered the Distributary. She has a throne world like Oryx and learned from him while she was "dead" post-Taken King, the method in which she trapped Savathun in crystal resembles Stasis as well so it's closer to Darkness then anything else.

Fun gameplay tidbit, but not only is the Ascendant Plane lore-wise lettingn you move far distances like the nether, the in-game ascendant planes do too. When you warp in and out, it respawns you based on your position, so you can do fun stuff like exit it from super-far away and you’ll respawn waaay above the map or off to the side depending (you can do this on the Dreaming City, if you jump into a public event bubble from above by busting out of the map it then lets you warp super high above the map since it’s relative, or if you just go out to the sides you’ll spawn super far out sideways etc)

I cannot wait to see you react to ghosts of the deep. I understand your plan considering how little time remains but I’d honestly recommend you play through and react to the dungeon yourself. The setting is beautiful and unique, the stakes are surprisingly high and the insight we get into a certain character through the collectibles is very interesting. Of course you would need a Sherpa or yt guide for the collectibles and it is the hardest dungeon imo but it’s also the best… imo

Zavalas speech was really sad after she died. But the worst part is that Lance (Zavalas VA) died the same week Amanda died. Making the whole thing much sadder

Something thats kinda funny is that in the game, usually one season behind, banshee starts to sell a weapon called Spoiler alert with the description "someone is going to die", and i think (idk for sure) that every time it happened. for this season i confirmed it when it happened at least.

So many of the question you have about Mara can be answered by videos MyNameisByf has put on his channel. And since they go into a good amount of detail it makes rewatching a lot of seasonal material better.

I know you said that you were going to do NODE OVERIDE AVALON before Lightfall ends (and you really should, it's gonna be gone soon). But the video did not show all of it, just in case you don't get to it in time. You should look up a video covering the full story behind it.

I would definitely recommend watching a video of Season of the Wish if you can't get all the way through it in time yourself. There's some important set-up for Final Shape at the end of it.

Just curious do you plan to watch the final shape trailers and showcases or do you want to go in blind?

I may be reading too much into it here, but it felt like Mara was starting to think of Amanda as a possible sister.

I think the tragedy behind Amanda's Death is that it happens right around the same time the Traveler "dies" at the end of Lightfall. So its unlikely theres even a chance for her to be resurrected like Crow was

I remember one of those Jisu Calerondo news at Neomuna claiming that a "guardianless" ghost has been seen roaming around the place. Also i'm pretty sure it was stated somewhere that some ghosts never found a guardian to rez, so they are still roaming around. So i believe there's still a chance, i have a feeling about it. I can only hope, i really like her character.

Yeah there are still lots of Ghosts that haven't found their Guardians yet - that's the whole explanation for Lightbearer Hive, remember? A Guardianless Ghost named Peach showed up once in the lore many years ago but got mentioned again twice this year for no apparent reason. Very, very interesting 👀

But the thing about Amanda is that she also mentioned many times during the season how she wanted a ghost to rez her parents, how easy it was for guardians to help others compared to normal humans. So there are a few reasons why i believe (or hope) she could come back at some point
