This sculpt took me 18 years - Sculpting Charmeleon in Blender

Фильм және анимация

I've been doing 3D animation for nearly 20 years. In this video I'll show you my...ah...humble beginnings as we rework one of my oldest art pieces. Becoming an artist is a lifelong goal and I'm honoured that Eagle App is helping small artist like myself achieve their dreams.

I keep being shocked that you don't have a hundredfold times the subs you have. You are an absolute boon for anyone who wants to learn Blender, your videos are unique and inspiring, and you're grounded enough that your content, and you by extension, feel approachable. Keep up the amazing work!

Great job looks awesome, beautiful Improvement. Just a bit of constructive criticism if you are interested: I would probably slap a noise texture over the entire thing and randomly change the color to be a little darker and a little lighter in random spots and put some dirt into the crevices between the scales, additionally I think you need to turn down the subsurface scattering just a tad and maybe mix in a little bit of some greens and purples, might look nice. Looking at pictures of lizards they are never just one color, I would take some inspiration from the Feiruz wood lizard. Additionally I would lean the upper body a bit more forward in the animation, to balance it out, maybe hunched the back a little.

Thanks James, that's all awesome stuff. And the Feiruz wood lizard is adorable - love those colours! This dude is currently just vertex painted in Blender. I'll be throwing him into Substance for a full texture process next. I'll definitely be taking on all of those tips :D

Ah, that's using the 'stencil' option (you can see it in the right options panel). I was having a lot of trouble lining up these scales, so being able to see that outline was really helpful.

Hey I know this isn't quite importantly specially considering how Chameleon isn't real. But that hole between Nostril and the Eye should only be visible when the animal is like starving to death. In a healthy induvial the skin would appear in that area would be nice and smooth like how it goes along the face. Again this is just me nit picking, but I hope it can help in some manner. Oh and fun fact, the second pair of hands you did where it faced inwards towards each other were more accurate to accurate dinosaur depictions. ^^ If a dinosaur had it's hand pointing down, it's likely those hands are broken. Love the model nonetheless, it's down right beautiful!!!

Hey, thanks for the great feedback Hawkstar. Are these things a byproduct of the Jurassic Park designs? Nearly every reference I have has both a slight dip between the eye/nostril and downward facing hands. Are these depictions just not accurate with modern paleontology?

@@JamieDunbar Ah not a problem Jamie! These aren't directly caused by JP, but they are exasperated by the films, these inaccuracies are real old! Nope, those aren't accurate to modern paleontology. For modern reconstructions I'd recommend looking at artists like, Damir G. Martin, Emily Stepp, or a many more that I can't just list here.

-Anton Ego Keep practicing Alexey ;)
