One of the reasons for Cheers' enduring popularity is its relatable characters and witty writing, which captured the essence of the human experience and provided viewers with a sense of community and connection. The show tackled a wide range of topics, from romance and friendship to work and family, and did so with humor and heart. It also boasted an ensemble cast that became icons of American pop culture, inspiring catchphrases, memes, and even a spin-off series, Frasier. However, behind the scenes, Cheers was not without its fair share of bloopers and mishaps. From flubbed lines to technical errors, the show faced many challenges during its production.
In this video, we’re taking a look at some of the odds and ends that didn’t go right on the show, and some of the errors that even the cast and crew didn’t realize was happening. We’ll also take you through some facts that you might not know about the show! Cheers remains a beloved and influential show in the world of television, with its humor, heart, and enduring characters leaving a lasting impact on pop culture.

I've noticed many videos do the same. They have these pictures (are they called thumbnails?) But when you go on to the site you never see the scene originally depicted. It's stupid really because often that is the reason you went on in the first place. Cannot see what the gain is as I never press like or subscribe if that happens

Was a fantastic show but did you know that they cut out little bits of the show on reruns so they can fit in commercials. They also time compress it a little for the same reason. The show is still funny but even better before they cut those out. Buying it on DVD probably avoids that problem.

OMG - been a student of film and tele long time (no longer) and never heard of a picked-over actor coming back to propose his own character - a role so perfect! The bar's know it all, Cliffy! Must be done all the time! No different than actors improvising a scene.

My favorite of "Cheers" was always a two-fold thing: Ted Danson, such a hunk of a man! The other was the theme song of "Cheers," it always stuck in my head for a while after it was played... both at the beginning of the episode as well as at the end of the episode. "Cheers" was one of the best sitcoms of it's era. Thanks for bringing back good memories, Facts Verse! 👍🤗

My favorite is when Woody Boyd played brilliantly by Harrelson is at the bar with Diane and Norman and Norm has to call Vera to tell her that at a dinner she didn't pass muster and Woody says maybe she couldn't reach it. Diane then pulls him aside to explain it and his response to her is just as funny as what he said. Just a brilliant character.
So many memories of this show! And Cliffy has got to be one of my favorites! So glad he pitched his idea. Nothing about Woody though? He was a great mid-season replacement for Coach.

2:47 - _"In season 8 there's an episode called Bar Wars III and then in season 10 there's Bar Wars V. Weirdly enough there's no episode containing Bar Wars IV."_ -- Season 9, episode 2: "Cheers Fouls Out" is Bar Wars IV. Wikipedia includes "Bar Wars IV" as an alternate title and I believe that some of the home video releases call it "Bar Wars IV: Cheers Fouls Out." I don't know of any way to know for sure what the official title of any Cheers episode is because, unlike many, if not most, TV shows of the era, Cheers episodes never display the title onscreen.
George Wendt’s wife played the role of the woman in the Halloween mask but she wasn’t playing Vera, she played a random customer who fell for Cliff and vice versa. But yes, she played Vera in other episodes.
Great show!
1:18 "You can clearly see a curtain on the left side of the screen" That is not a "curtain", that is a coat rack, as any fans of the show would remember this episode opens with Carla looking for Cliff's coat in the rack, then hands him a lady's coat, but Cliff is too scared to argue with her and takes it. 6:39 That was not Norm's wife, that was a girl that Cliff picked up, they danced all night and he had a second date with her, where they both show their faces. The episode that Vera was seen in was the Thanksgiving episode at Carla's home, Vera walks in at the end, after they got in a food fight, and Diane throws a pie in her face.

I really have three favorites. The first when Diane came in with Sumner. The second would be Rebecca Howe's first episode and the third would be the one where Sam straightened Coach's picture. I did know a couple but you schooled me well on one of my all time favorite shows. Thanks.
The doors swing in in Massachusetts because of snow and ice.
Favorite episode hands down is the Thanksgiving one with the food fight!
I dated a lot during those years everybody talked about Cheers. Drinking was part of the lifestyle too and the characters in my personal life were reflected by those in the bar. Looking back it's interesting how both real and fictional themes blend in memory. Personality types and the often phony world of dating, being the good worker, and family member.
It seems to me that the use of cliffhangers had been in much earlier shows before Cheers, such as Happy Days, or Dallas (think who shot JR), but I am not committed to this. That aside, Cheers was ABSOLUTELY one of the best sitcoms and room of my friends!
greatest Cheers episode had to be the Thanksgiving edition where the whole cast went to, I think, Carla's house for dinner. When mealtime came around they hd a massive food fight. What a hilarious episode

@thomasdowns1117. That's close but my fave was from Season 1 when Diane's mom visited. She was played by the late great Glynis Johns, a real coup in casting. Too bad she never re-appeared. Love when she so innocently says to Sam "Diane has told me about you. You're almost as handsome as she says you think you are." The look on Sam's face was priceless.
Thanks for the minutiae. FYI, some of your points can be cleared up without even looking at the screen. Just turn up your volume, for any episode, it's there at the beginning of all of them "CHEERS IS FILMED BEFORE A LIVE STUDIO AUDIENCE".
Cheers was a great show. All the characters were unique in their own rite. Cheers is pretty much true. I worked in a nightclub and I have pretty much all of those characters.
2:52 Bar Wars IV was Season 9 Episode 2 "Cheers Fouls Out". They didn't call it Bar Wars IV, but it was a "Bar War with Gary" episode.
NOOOOORM!!! "How's life treating you Norm?" .... "It's a dog eat dog world out there and I'm wearing milkbone underwear." 🤣
One of my favourites was the Drive in episode, where Frasier joins the gang at a Godzilla film festival. With Frasier saying, 'Oh, now what the hell is that supposed to be ... a giant moth?' Woody replies, 'Funny you should say that, Dr. Crane... that's Mothra... they're trying to figure out how to kill it.' 'Why don't they just throw a big wool blanket over the city, and when it comes in to land, zap it!' Or Frasier having a dream about Woody becoming President... and blowing up the world.

The saucy scene on the thumbnail leads one to expect a blooper of the indecent exposure type, if that what you came to see dont waist your time. lol.
Although Cheers was set in Boston- I don't think they ever showed any live scenes of Boston (outside the opening drawings and photographs which I am not sure are set in Boston. As far as I know, they never filmed any scenes in some big Boston Landmark. The Mary Tyler Moor Show did the same thing wiht except for the openings- they never did any location filming in the City of Minneapolic. It would have been interesting if both shows tried to film some scenes in the Cities they were actually set in.
@MaximRecoil

There were a few scenes filmed with some of the main characters standing outside the Bull & Finch Pub in Boston, which was the in-universe exterior of Cheers. But regardless of that, the Boston setting was an important part of the show even if very little of Boston was actually seen. It affected the accents, the sports teams they rooted for, and the celebrity guests (e.g., Massachusetts politicians and professional athletes such as Kevin McHale of the Boston Celtics and Wade Boggs of the Boston Red Sox).
At 4:53 they state : "Cheers was the FIRST sitcom to end a season with cliffhangers" COMPLETE NONSENSE !! I guess they never saw the TV sitcom SOAP where basically every episode was a cliffhanger with a major cliffhanger at the end of each season. Soap was the cliffhanger champion of sitcoms
'Cheers' bar was established in 1895, when building and fire codes were different. Thus doors that open inwards rather than outwards would have been Grandfathered in. I know of at least one small town Pharmacy/restaurant where the doors open inwards and where my mom worked in the 40's, so the Laws governing door opening direction hadn't been put in place yet. Less of a 'Blooper' and more of a History lesson.
@MaximRecoil

"'Cheers' bar was established in 1895" It doesn't affect your overall point, but it was 1889. 1895 is a number that Carla made up for superstitious numerology purposes when Sam had the Cheers sign made (watch season 8, episode 6: "The Stork Brings a Crane").

What are talking about? Many shows did season ending cliff-hangers, including Happy Days, and Dallas,(Who Shot JR?).
@HoldenNY22
Жыл бұрын
I think the Narrator was talking about Comedy shows, not dramas. What cliffhangers did Hapy Days ever do. Like maybe how Richie's older Brother- Chuck- was kidnapped by Extra-Terrestials and the E.T's were so powerful- they erased everyody's Memory of him as well as any evidence of his existence.
Since you've discovered that the Men's and Women's bathroom door signs magically switch locations, did you bother to see if it was possibly done intentionally? Ex: If Sam had to use the bathroom, it would make sense if the Men's room was closer (to waste less time watching him walk over that way). And the same for Diane. If she needed to use the bathroom, it makes sense (in a TV production sense) not to have her walk all the way to the far bathroom.
You say Coach was one of the favorite characters. Why then did they not mention him a single time on the TV Land reunion?
Favorate character is Lilith.
My favorite episode is the one you teased us with in the thumbnail, but didn't show in the video. I hate you forever.
Older soap opera were famous about cliff hangers
My Favorite character in Cheers was the ...Errr....Ancient Mesopotamins.
What about the portrayal of Frasier's mother in Cheers versus what we see of her in Frasier? Far less smoothly handled than Martin . . . particularly since John Mahoney played a creepy jingle writer in Cheers . . .

He appeared in dozens of TV and theatre releases, two of his most memorable for me was in the original Star Trek where he portrayed Mister Henguest of Rigel 4, and in an early Alfred Hitchcock show where Fiedler is a homicidal multi killer ( Leon Gorwald) whose identity is concealed until the end of the show.
