This Rider is Really Insane 🤕

Yamaha FZ1 riding wild! Scrapping pegs and throwing sparks in almost every corner. He almost made it all the way through Tail of the Dragon, but the inevitable happens. He goes down. He is fine and the bike started back up.

Max at 9:56 after the crash "Sucks. That dude was riding so good." --- No, he was riding badly. He was going too fast for that bike, blowing turn after turn, straying outside his lane - an easy signal when someone is riding beyond their limits or the bikes limits. He was also going too fast for the bike's ground clearance, and that meant a slight road imperfection or loss of grip would cause a crash. If you look carefully where he crashed, there is a slight dark stripe on the pavement that could be oil or antifreeze. But even without that, he was riding on luck, not skill, because anything at all causing a slight additional lean would result in the pegs or centerstand taking more weight, the rear tire being unloaded, and that would cause the rear tire to lose grip and the bike to go down. Pretending this is bad luck is dumb because it ignores all the things that could be learned from the incident to signal one should back off a bit, given the combination of that bike, that rider and that road.

Unloaded the rear wheel by pressing the pegs into the floor, reduced weight on rear wheel causing it to spin up under power and did a low side. Guy is a terrible rider and has equated getting your pegs down to being a good thing… it is never a good thing. He can’t be bothered to buy proper riding gear either, if you’re out riding like that, leather one piece suit is the only acceptable attire. The irony is, he could knock 5° off his lean angle and be faster around all them corners if he just hung off the bike. Hopefully he learned his lesson with a gentle low speed crash rather than something more serious.

Dragging pegs on these Yamahas were pretty easy to do in their day. They came with horrible soft suspension and really low pegs. But, you could ride all day dragging, no worries.... however.... once you started dragging the center stand, whole different ball game. You can see the sparks from the stand and the large gouge it makes on the road as the rear tyre loses grip. Glad he's ok... time for some rearsets and a decent rear shock and spring.

I have the same bike, gen 1 FZ1. Bike is very capable with an upgraded suspension. But it desperately needs rearsets. Made a world of difference on my bike. Can go right to the edge of tires without any scraping, maybe just a touch on my toe sliders. Stock pegs are very low and forward unlike modern nakeds. Almost like an upright riding position, typical UJM basically. You don't realize how bad they are until you ride this bike. To counteract you either need to slightly reduce lean angle or learn better body positioning. Rider needs real gear and needs to get his suspension sorted. Stock on these bikes aren't great, too soft and you need it tuned. Riding like this on this bikes suspension is suicide. Unlike others I feel this rider wasn't horrible. He obviously needs to learn better body positioning and pick better lines. And don't ride above your ability or the bike's. Definitely needs some work but better than a lot I've seen on this road. Some proper track training, get the suspension set up, rearsets and rider gear and this guy will rip it up on this road.

FYI, if you're going to drag foot pegs and you really don't want or can't afford rear sets. Then at least remove those bolts under your pegs. Which you shouldn't be. Because they're there to let you know that you've reached the limit. But if for some reason you absolutely have to then there's really no point having them since you're just grinding them short anyways. Same thing with center stand, side stand, etc.

crazy shit to think about is. As bad as the dude on the fz was riding. imagine how bad max is that he needed an s1000 to keep up.

Looks like the FZ1 rider left his lean indicators on his foot pegs. That's why he's scraping so much.

Trying to show off for wristy, could see that crash happening within minutes. Wristy should have backed off and hope the guy eased off, might not have a bent bike and a lovely bit of road rash if he had

No surprise here. This kind of riding is bound to end badly. Glad he wasn't badly hurt.
