yes because ROC was the founding government of modern China after 5000 year dynastic period. But in reality based on fact, ROC is now the adopted name of the official government representing Taiwan only under the amended ROC constitution specific to Taiwan. Although ROC has still an outstanding claim of China's territory from unsettled history of betrayal by the communist rebels in China.

One of the thing that most people don't know, and a lot of Taiwanese forget is that "Taiwan" is not just Taiwan, the territory that "Taiwan" currently hold include Taiwan and a bunch of islands. The people of these islands do not consider themselves to be Taiwanese because they don't live in Taiwan. And this is why the official name, Republic of China, is important here because it includes everyone in the jurisdiction.

Partly true. More precise fact: ROC is the official representative government of Taiwan country mandated by democratic election of Taiwanese government by Taiwanese people for the people of Taiwan. Under the current set-up, Taiwan is a country which includes the main island and the archipelagoes of islands called "free areas" according to amended ROC constitution for Taiwan. So, all people with household registration in Taiwan are Taiwanese. Overseas Chinese except the people of China's territory are allowed to apply for RoC nationals as a matter of historical privilege of RoC.

Sun Yat-sen did not get rid of the king. He (despite being in Denver at the time) got rid of the emperor. There is a historical reason in China as to why this distinction is important. King is 王 and during the later periods of the feudal Zhou dynasty (before about 220 BC), everyone proclaimed themselves to be King. So when the King of Qin defeated everyone, he decided that he was above everyone on the level of the Mythical historical rules of China called HuangDi (aka Yellow Emperor) so he proclaimed his title to be such 皇帝. Similarly this is why vassal/tributary states like the many Kingdoms of Korea could only be Kings because only 1 Emperor could exist in all the realms which China being literally the Middle Kingdom. Sidenote: Korean kings like Sejeon basically put up the doctrine that internally they were to be seen as Emperors but externally to be known as Kings.

It is indeed confusing even for Taiwanese. ROC is currently the elected government which officially represent Taiwan country. According to current set-up, Taiwan consists of main island of Taiwan and the archipelagoes of smaller islands under so called "free areas" under the jurisdiction of ROC government. ROC was founding government of China until it was illegally ousted by the communist rebels, fled and set an exiled government of China and as occupying military government of Taiwan for certain period until the latest set-up as all-Taiwanese government exclusively for Taiwan only.

@@kaichang2059 For your education and learning. Taiwan and Fujian provinces were under the provisional structure of RoC's occupation of Taiwan by martial law. After the martial law was lifted and RoC became democracy, both temporary provinces were officially abolished and the country is collectively Taiwan which includes Taiwan's main land and the archipelago of smaller islands under RoC's control. So, currently no Taiwan province but collectively the country of Taiwan ISO code TWN, TW. ROC is official name and the official representative government of Taiwan and PRC is representing China.
