Why is Taiwan Passport banned by the United Nations? Why is the Taiwanese passport banned in Georgia?
In this video, we take a look at the passport of Taiwan, or the passport of Republic of China. We discuss the reason why the UN bans the Taiwanese passport, and why Georgia bans the Taiwan passport.
We also discuss why Taiwan passport is so good. Only 14 countries in the world recognize Taiwan, but Taiwanese people can travel to 146 countries visa-free. How did Taiwan achieve this?
Finally, we take a look at the new Taiwan passport cover, and why the design was changed.

The Taiwan passport is actually even more useful than the HK passport. You can even go to the US without a visa, while every person that lives and only has citizenship from places under PRC jurisdiction can't go to the US without a visa.

I don't mind not being able to enter South America without a visa if I'm a Taiwanese. Being under the VWP has more worth than having a passport that cannot go into the US.

A mistake people often make is to think of the US VWP as the end-all and be-all. I would say in some circumstances the US visa is more reliable. For example, Taiwanese can only stay in the US for up to 90 days using their VWP. But a Hongkonger with US visa can stay up to 6 months. And since US visa refusal rate for Hongkonger is only 2%, that means almost all Hongkongers can get US visa without too much problem and stay in America for a longer time. 90 days is not bad but definitely not enough time for a coast-to-coast road trip or something like that.

Many people like to compare Taiwan with Hong Kong but apparently they're not in the same league. Undoubtedly Hong Kong is a city of China because in the joint declaration of UK and China, the sovereignty over Hong Kong was transferred from UK to China in 1997 but in which treaty which country transferred the sovereignty over Taiwan to China ? It was USA that defeated Japan and ended the second world war. According to the Treaty of Peace with Japan, signed in San Francisco by 49 nations in 1951, Japan officially gave up the sovereignty over Taiwan but the Treaty never stated Taiwan would be given to any country. Any country pretending to claim over Taiwan is considered unlawful and should be condemned. For many people in Taiwan, holding a passport of People's Republic China is no different from holding a passport of North Korea.

  • @Alleniro

pretty much? I mean, both South Korea and Taiwan access to English-speaking North America without any visas, while their dark counterpart (The PRC and North Korea) had weaker passport, but HK and Macau are different, they're the autonomous places of the dark counterpart, but both HK and Macau had no access to the USA, so that submits that it's still a part of the evil counterpart.

If Japan officially gave up the sovereignty over Taiwan, then the next entity that took over it in 1945 - Republic of China - is being unlawful and should be condemned. So if the People's Republic of China is unlawful for claiming Taiwan, then what does that say about the Republic of China that not only is claiming Taiwan but also controlling it? If the PRC is despicable for fantasizing about committing rape, then the ROC is the one that succeeded in aforementioned rape.

Pro-CPC people often point the Cairo Declaration as "legal grounds" for the transfer. According to that government statement from 1943, Taiwan was one of the territories to be returned to China after the war. The reasoning is, that this then happened with Japan's surrender.

@@martinfiedler4317 It was not even a declaration because no one signed that communique. It could be written by anonymous Chinese. Even Chiang-Kai-Shek had no signature. UK and US public denied having agreed it. The Potsdam declaration (signed) did not state Taiwan. Interesting video, but a few points I'd like to make: The title is a bit misleading. It sounds like the passport is prohibited and will be confiscated; the truth is that it's just not recognised as a valid passport. "14 tiny countries"? I wouldn't call Honduras or Guatemala tiny, and certainly not Paraguay. Also, Taiwan was under Japanese rule for 50 years, not 150. One interesting point about passports most younger people will find hard to believe, is that for me travelling on a Taiwan passport, getting visa-free/ landing visa entry to a bunch of countries was much more straightforward than when I began travelling, on a British passport. That's because in those Cold War days, Brits needed visas for almost everywhere outside the EU (or EEC as it was then); even my visit to India - an ex-British territory - required a visa, which was neither cheap nor swiftly processed. Visas also tended to require much more information; the Taiwan or ROC visa was a nightmare, so there were very few places travel agencies could arrange passports conveniently on behalf of their customers. No travel is just so much easier, even on a Taiwan passport!

@@PassportPlanet you meant Residence Permit for Taiwan Residents, that's what they're using. They issued a separate Residence Permit that looks similar to the identification cards that normal Chinese citizens have due to the issues of HK, Macau and Taiwan having different border controls from the mainland. I'm sure that ROC citizens with right of abode can do that after 6 months on living in Mainland China continuously, the same can be said for HK and Macau residents. They cannot get a Chinese hukou from any provinces and municipalities like Shanghai and Beijing because of the ROC having a law that says "if the holder of an ROC passport gets a PRC passport, their ROC citizenship shall be revoked."

@@PassportPlanet I think that kind of ID card is only for people from Taiwan, HK Macau. There was a similar case in Taiwan few years ago. Once Taiwanese people hold PRC (mainland) passport, Taiwanese official will know and revoke your Taiwanese passport and identity immediately. Meanwhile all of your right and welfare in Taiwan would be canceled like voting, national healthcare. Technically you would become PRC citizen.

It may or may not be a country, but China's claim to Taiwan is baloney. Germany doesn't still that Konigsberg belongs to it, and Turkey doesn't think the Balkans still belong to it, because both countries understand that some defunct version of their current countries lost those in war, while China cannot admit this. China lost Taiwan in war, and never won it back because Japan was not defeated by China, but by the USA, and the victors did not give Taiwan to the communists. The losers don't get to call the shots after a war. No Chinese leaders were even invited to the Potsdam Conference or the drafting of the Treaty of San Francisco where the fate of Japanese territory were decided.
