They're just very smart (racoons).. I've never seen a racoon integrated into a domestic dog pack like this, however. Another dynamite cross-species "family!" How great, and as always - poignant, heart-warming. ** Love when people care, love when they're willing to be improvisational, creative about the way their homes evolve. LOVE.

You should be immensely proud of your son, and yourself. It's apparent that he was raised so very well, and imbued with values that are much needed in this world.

That name Diddles gives me the chills. My cat who died many years ago had that name. He was chunky like this adorable raccoon and had similar stripes on his tail.

God I love raccoon feet. They are so cute they are little bitty hands. This woman clearly passed her caring ways on to her son for him to stop and rescue him. Lovely story thanks for sharing 💛

I used to feed raccoons. I made a tray for mama and her six kits. I put out a dish for Racheee who came at 2 am because the other raccoons would bully her. Then the law changed. I wish l could have a raccoon as a pet. They are sweet, gentle, resourceful...even affectionate. It is such a delight seeing this little one having the life we would not hesitate to offer to cats and dogs. I wish this family much happiness.

I had no idea that they had that much personality and socializing skill. This is wonderful. Thank you for caring for him❤❤❤

I have many wild raccoons show up every night and yes they each have a distinct personality. I've formed a tight bond with a few of them, and they respond to their names. There are about 4 in the group I’m comfortable petting or having up in my lap. One that I named "Mr. Wiener" (likes hot dogs) insists on taking food from the cup, not what I pour out. He is very inquisitive and loves to greet me. I have awesome videos of him and others on youtube@OONSDAY.

All animals have different personalities.

I'm a huge animal lover so it makes me happy knowing that Diddles is safe, well-fed & loved by a family who offers Diddles as much freedom to live outdoors & to also live safely indoors, at his own terms. Unfortunately, not all have the lifestyle luxury that Diddles have. That's why it makes me cry & upset every time I see roadkill, which are mostly raccoons & squirrels. They are only trying to survive by finding safe shelter & food to eat, not just for themselves but also for their babies. Sadly, many mothers get killed leaving their babies to either starve to death or get eaten by larger predators, if those babies don't get rescued in time.

When you are born with a BANDIT mask, like Diddles, some degree of devious behavior should be expected. Perhaps his role model is Robin Hood, the way he steals snacks from the counter and shares them with his dog siblings.

When I was a kid we had a neighbor that was a wildlife biologist. When I was 11 he gave me a rescued baby skunk. I raised him and she became a total cuddle bunny.

While it's true that Diddles has formed a bond with his human caregivers and thinks of them as his family💚🤗

On hearing you describe your affection for Diddles, I immediately wondered about racoons' longevity. Turns out that, although they only live 3 to 5 years in the wild, in captivity and with sufficient nutrition, they can live up to 20 years.

Diddles reminds me so much of our Raccoon! Her best friend was a little beagle. They had the best time together...their hands are amazing aren't they? They are uber intelligent and love a bit of mischief! Try giving Diddles seashells, all different shapes and sizes, big and small and put tiny bits of treats or food in them! It's really adorable and keeps them entertained for a good amount of time! This brought back some fun memories! Thank you for giving that beautiful baby a wonderful life!!
