    Iv'e had the Series X and S since launch......... i purchased a PS5 3 weeks ago, i wanted the digital edition but got the disc version as it was the only one available. I did have it stood up, but hearing about these liquid metal issues and the proof iv'e seen, i'm not too proud or pig headed to ignore the warnings and keep it vertical, i laid my PS5 flat and i'm keeping it that way. Even if the percentage chance of damage is small. 1% chance of it stood upright could cause damage is still too much at the cost of £485!

I got ps4 slim and a ps4 1215a. They both won’t recognize a hard drive. I tried two different new harddrives, a different power supply and on the 1215a I changed out the chip number mb86c311b and the issue still is present. The only thing I can think of is a south bridge issue, any thoughts?

    everytime i see liquid metal on a ps5 i always think it looks way too much .. the idea is still the same right? its just suppose to make the contact as pure in places where the contact isnt perfect, seems like a even layer across the entire die is far too much, why not a small line down the middle and let the force of pressure spread the bit of liquid .. always seems alot especially the factory amount... id like see some tests done with much less liquid metal applied .. id like see the minimun liquid and temps :)

I've seen a lot of tear down videos and there always seems to be a dry spot somewhere on the APU. I am wondering if long term a high quality thermal paste would stay put and be more beneficial.

    @@Endzima_ Tronixfix also uses some cheap chinese thermal paste 99% of the time. I've only ever seen 1 Arctic (think it was MX4) tube in his videos, once. Every other time he uses some giant unnamed syringe. And I've watched most of them. Also if I remember correctly, that video was with the original 1000 model when the PS5 launched. The new 1200 should be a lot easier to cool, someone needs to test this. Any modern thermal paste of quality should be within 1-2 degrees of the performance of the liquid metal. The ONLY time you normally use liquid metal is when you need every bit of cooling that you can get because of heavily overclocked chip or something. Which the PS5 is not.

  • @tusux2949

    @tusux2949

    Жыл бұрын

    @@cyphaborg6598 Because 7nm has cooling issues, it is very dense. All 7nm CPUs, for example, are soldiered to the heatspreader because of this, whereas most of the older processes (14nm, 28nm, etc) used thermal paste, because it is cheaper and the transistor density was way lower - there was enough "free room" in the chip in between the transistors to soak up and spread the heat somewhat evenly through the whole die. 7nm, in contrast, is so dense that this is impossible - heat is concentrated in many hotspots, requiring immense thermal conductivity of the interface material to properly cool them. Hence the soldering in CPUs and the liquid metal in PS5 - Sony took the safe bet. This should be resolved in the latest processes (5nm, 3nm) by integrating special heat transfer links inside the chip, but 7nm, being the first process to face this issue remains affected. Not sure about the 6nm that the PS5 1200 model uses - it is more advanced than the 7nm of the original 1000 model but it is technically a variation of 7nm, it is not a new process.

    If you only charge £50 plus parts then you are robbing yourself. You should charge more just for being a celebrity fixer! Add a "repaired by the Cod3r" sticker for good measure.. To be fair though, I don't know the going rate of any competitors out there, but you do such a thorough job you should charge appropriately

  • @aaronf4201

    I'm definitely not a celebrity lol. That said, I'd only charge £50 on this job as a discounted rate because otherwise its not economical to do. The problem is any more and they're better off sending it to Sony as they charge £240 as a flat fee. In this case it's either I charge a little less or don't get paid, so I'd rather have something over nothing lol

    @@TheCod3r you obviously know your business better, we just want you to get the best for what you do. why is your kester solder almost 100% more expensive than it is from mouser ?

  • @TheCod3r

    @TheCod3r

    Жыл бұрын

    It's not. I sell it in smaller quantities because the average person doesn't need 1lb of solder. It's actually a loss leader. I don't make any profit on it after tax and postage

    @TheCod3r

    Жыл бұрын

    @@shambleslongplay3566 I do let it be known Kester can be bought for around £45 on Amazon US if people have it imported. But what I'm doing is providing a smaller quantity to people who either don't want to wait 3 weeks for imports or don't want a full reel. I'm happy to give the math on the entire reel 453g on each reel so 9 x 50g @ £13.50 per pack = £121.50. Take 2% for payment fees and that's £119.07 - £45 cost is £74.07. It costs me £1.45 for RM first class, 30p for additional packaging (printing, internal packaging etc) plus 80p for a bubble pack and that's £2.55 postage per pack. Multiply that by the 9 packs and that's £22.95 in post and packaging. Deduct that from the £74.07 and then take 20% off for tax and it leaves £40.89. So essentially I'm hand reeling 450g (or more specifically 450m as 1g is 1m on this specific size kester) for £40.89 profit. So not quite a loss leader, but it doesn't really make much profit all things considered. It takes a few hours to hand reel that much solder off a reel, weigh it, bag it and package it up. So when you think about it, I'm probably working for about £15 per hour. Yes it's a good wage but I'm definitely not getting rich from it. It's more just an option to provide quality solder to people who need it. Hopefully those numbers are understandable. There's a lot there but they're accurate numbers 😉

    One thing you have to remember is, I'm experienced. I can do certain things because I'm aware of what's going on. To some, probing 240v isn't perceived as dangerous and those people should never do something like that, because they have no awareness at all. Personally I know where I can and can not touch. I personally know and trust the equipment I use, and I'm always aware of what the limitations are

For your own safety stop and have a think about the safety of your work environment, then you might live long enough to appreciate a small bit of friendly advice. Good luck.
