మన పురాతమైన ఆచారాల వెనుక,పండుగుల వెనుక గల విషయాల ను లోతు గా అధ్యయనం చేస్తే మనం ఎన్నో కొత్తావా అనిపించే సంగతులు బయటకి వస్తాయి.నిజానికి అవి కాలం మాటున అలా మరుగున పడిపోయాయి.మీ వంటి వారు సాధికార సమాచారం తో ముందుకు రావడం అంటే దాని అర్ధం భారతీయ ఆత్మ మళ్ళీ తనని తాను ప్రకటించుకోవడమే. కొన్ని ఏళ్ళ క్రితం శ్రీలంక వెళ్ళాను. అక్కడి ప్రజలకి చాలామంది కి కళింగ రాజులు అంటే ప్రత్యేక అభిమానం.బుద్ధ భగవానుని పన్ను ని విదేశీయుల నుంచి కాపాడి అక్కడికి తీసుకువచ్చారని చెబుతారు.

మనం 1498 వాస్కోడాగా ఇండియాకి సముద్ర మార్గం ని కనిపెట్టేను లాంటి చరిత్ర నే చదువుకుంటాము. నిజానికి అంతకు ముందే యూరప్కి ట్రవెన్ కోర్ సముద్ర వ్యాపారం చసింది.

But to day where are the Sadhaba community in orissa?They are not found today.Tge sons of Sadhaba community are good ship builders.The small banana skins on which smalloil lamps are kept and floted on river water ot on tanks or ponds signify the setsail of Sadhabas to Bali island.It is a commemoration of that on the karthika poornima eve. thanks for reminding the an cient history and culture of odisha.in the olden days kalinga was enriched by this Sadhaba community. .

It seems to be a funny question but relevant now. The World Health Organization listed Idli as one of the most hygienic and nutritious food. It is the favourite breakfast of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Along with Sambar, Idli nourishes us. Then how it originated? Very interesting to note that, “Idli” is the modified form of “Kedli” of Indonesia. The story goes like this… Fermented food especially Kedli is the most favourite food of Indonesia. Once a Hindu King of Indonesia visited South India during 8 th century looking for Bride. The cooks accompanied the King prepared Kedli to serve him. The Indian cooks studied the preparation of Kedli and modified according to their imagination. Originally, the Idli was a preparation of fermented Blackgram pulp but later rice also added to fasten the fermentation process. In India, Idli originated in Karnataka according to the writing Vaddaradhane of Sivakoty Acharya of 920 AD. It describes Idli as one of the 18 items served to a Brahmachari visited in homes. In Tamil Nadu, the" Ittali" originated around 17th century AD. Whether imported from Indonesia or invented in India, it’s worth noting that Idli full fills the needs of a fasting stomach. It gives carbohydrates for energy and protein for growth. Its good bacteria generate lot of Vitamin B. An interesting thing is that a person consuming Idli daily will not have head ache because the black gram has the property to inhibit head ache. The side dish Sambar is one of the nutritious vegetable soup that contains many vegetables, spices, tamarind, Asafoetida etc which keeps the stomach healthy and prevents acidity and indigestion.

There is a historic town ( now mandal headquarter), Mandasa(మందస), changed from MANJUSHA ( మంజూష...... అనగా పెట్టె ) in Srikakulam dist. which is sharing a long boundary with the state of Odisha . Mandasa is just 10 kms away from the sea shore, Bay of Bengal. And on the way to sea shore from Mandasa there is a village named BALIGAM ( బాలిగాం) which is mainly dominated by the caste Kalinga (కాళింగ) (one of the major and leading caste in North Andhra and South Odisha) Professor Chalam ( Ex proff. of AU and UPSC Board member) , on his speech at the centenary function of ZPHS Mandasa in 2005 revealed that the people of Baligam might have migrated to that island, may be at the time of Àsoka, and it altemately became BALI........ ఈ ప్రాంతంలో గల కోడిపుంజు బలులు అమ్మవారి( గ్రామదేవత) కి ఇచ్చేనైవేద్యాలు ఇప్పటికీ బాలి ద్వీపంలో ఉన్నాయని ఆయన చెప్పియుంటిరి.
