This Module Changed Everything // Intellijel Scales, jam?
Музыка
I never knew a Quantizer would be SO useful! It made my eurorack modular synth musical (to my ears) It guides you a bit more into the easy module world of things. Allowing you to get the modular sound, but without the headache! Use the modular with samples and some typical sounds and its a perfect blend of samples, playing, and modular stuff. My favorite would have to be the Intellijel Scales, even though i know the ACL Sinfonion is an amazing quantizer but i needed a small quantizer. The Erica Synths Quantizer is great, but a bit too limited for my needs. Intellijel Scales checks all the boxes and more.

I have literally no idea what is going on in any of these modular videos but, I love them.

There are things that bleep and things that bloop and things that tell them when to do it, then you have beautiful music. For best results, be Ricky Tinez.
So just like the Saturday mornings of old I wait for Ricky to come on so I can sit in front of the TV for my weekly dose. Share the love, share the knowledge, knowledge is power, peace!
Why does ricky always look like he's so clean, I bet he smells good

I miss the one I had!
This video got more helpful each time I watched it and it is nice seeing you in an almost similar space right now, trying to bring the modular into a territory that is more usable with other musicians.
I always get inspired watching your jams, quality stuff as always.
It's so inspirational seeing you get so excited about the new ways of making music you discover/stumble upon. :)
I love how excited you're getting about a quantizer. Your videos always make me happy. Enjoy your "ladder". 😄
12:45 Ricky, feel yourself hugged ... watching you sit-dance along with the sequence was soooo refreshing and inspiring. Thank you ever yo much for your videos and this video. All the best, Henrik
Your passion is so infectious! Smooth!
Of all the KZread channels this is my absolute favourite. It just feels like I'm sitting in the same room digging those funky beats by 👑Tinez
sounding absolutely beautiful 🤩, when i eventually can afford to get into modular scales will definitely be in my kit!!! thanks for the video man!!!
I keep coming back and watching this one, the music is soooo good!!
I’m all over this. Sounds so good!
Straight fire. It's cool how you transmit your excitement when shit gets dope. Makes your videos a lot of fun. Much love fron chile
Yeah, scale quantizers where you can select notes in and out are awesome! Discovered the power of those early on in my VCV Rack adventures and it completely changes/enhances the way you can make music. E.g. mix two different type LFO's at different speeds into an attenuator and then the quantizer. It's a whole universe to be discovered. The power of CV!!

That was beautiful, thank you!
Another awesome video by the man Ricky! Once again I get inspired and motivated even though my own music has absolutely nothing to do with this genre. Stellar ⭐️
lovely modular set!
What a beautiful jam!
Mine literally just arrived! Great timing!!!
Nice stuff bro makes modular so much more accessible and easy for making beats quickly with other conventional gear.
It's dope how you make music I don't necessarily listen to. And your process is nothing like my process. But your passion and care paired with your videography is enough to keep me checkin your content. Dope 🤙🏿
dude, i dont know what it is but your videos are soooo fun to watch. i dont even use that much hardware but ive watched every single second of every video you put out here much love
Great Module!!!!
Love your vibe man. Thx for your videos.
man for serious, your videos are so helpful.
appreciate your demeanour, listening to you calms me lol
Fun video as usual - you're an excellent host! Wish we met at Knobcon when I went. I've been longing for a Mimetic Digitalis and I think you pushed me over the edge. Cheers.
The fact that Scales can also do SH-101 type sequencing is another reason it is such a great module. May be tough in a live setting to use it that way, but Tin Man shows it can be done.
I soo need to build me a lil case like that. Flames as usual Ricky. Your videos are the only ones that make me wanna get up and dance every time. Thanks dude
Dude you and Mylar get my brain ticking about Modular brains. It has made my journey a little easier with so many ins and outs with Modular. You should make little Modular tip manuals and offer them on Patreon. I'd subscribe just for that.
I love learning from you I get jams the whole time
Thanks for the knowledge!
Genuinely never seen anyone get this excited (and inspired) over quantiser module before :) the pairing with Surface works really well. I’m definitely inspired to try my Sonic Kitchen Penrose quantiser with my Rings module, although it does lack the flexibility of Surface. In my experience, less is more - fewer notes but used well gives a better performance. My go-to key at the moment is Em pentatonic
Your videos have made me stick with the Noise Engineering MD and I'm so glad I did, it goes so well with Steppy. Really enjoyed the track this week. Thank you.
Literally just picked one up yesterday to go along with my mimetic!
I could spend my whole day watching you and loopop... building knowledge and GAS
Nice one! Looks like a fun system to play with.
This is Amazing man nice sounds i like it
Watched this vid before I got a Scales and watching it again 6 months later now that I finally got my hands on one. So hard to find - took me 6 months looking. Bought used off Reverb. Literally sold out across entire internet for half a year. Excited to pair it with my DFAM, the dual-channels should be a perfect match for the dual oscillators. Great ideas in this vid, keep it up :)
So sweet!
ahahahah Yeaaaaaahhh nice work ricky. You got me into modular and octatrack and I got a lot of the same gear as you. love the music you make in these videos dude, super inspiring. got the expander patches the other week. thanks for sharing
Lovely video
Nice one Ricky!
Man...love your videos, getting me through this stinkin covid life lockdown
Nice groove man 👍
haha - i bought a mimetic digitalis + scales back when i saw one of your first compact creations where you combined those two. have had so much fun with it so far.
You nailed that house vibe 👍👍
Mine arrives tomorrow, with Pam's New Workout and Mutable's Ears and Kinks... That's gonna be a nice parcel waiting for me when I get home! Really looking forward to seeing what Scales can do.
This video inspired me to use a different scale and rondom notes on my Monostation works perfectly 😀
Right! I picked up a scales on clist just over a month ago and it changed everything.
Great discovery. If you use more modules receiving pitch from Scales you like to use a S&H module (capable to hold pitch like the RND from DivKid) so the pitch changes only when the voice triggers. I use uO_c as a quad S&H which is also a buffered multi, octave shifter, quantizer and more, if you like.
Hey ricky I’m also rocking the meze 99s. I love the warmth of their sound while still being high res they are the perfect balance for me, and great price point for audiophile gear. I have the drop version but they left the sound alone and just tweaked the color slightly. No gold but it knocks 100 off. Love the groove in this vid, hope to hear a full track with this setup soon! Be smooth mane
This jam sounded soooooooo good.
Throat gate, chest through nose. 909 kik, house staple rose. The story of your journey is helpful. The expansive modular marketplace is daunting. Nice to see inspiring wins
And he is always so fucking friendly and radiating positiv vibes... I like this! Peace brother and thank you so much for your videos.
That's what I've been doing with my MD (into an ACL Sinfonion for quantization) and the WMD Metron - instant melody generator!
I got about 20 spaces left in the rack, been looking at Scales, thanks buddy!
When Ricky gets happy- you better listen ;0) Let's go!
To get scales-like functionality, I made a little midi processor. It takes two keyboards as input, and spits out quantized notes. One input is hints for configuring the scale, like on the module above. The other input is for performance note data, which gets quantized and transposed into that scale. Super simple, but also very useful. Makes it possible to easily improv real-time with pretty much anything, even if the song has a ton of key/scale changes. Just sent hint-track notes from a sequencer, and the performance track will always stay in tune.
Nice. What also looks nice is the Noise Engineering - Lapsus Os, I was just looking for an attenuverter :)
Scales and Steppy made me an Intellijel fanboy. Completely changed the way I approach making music with my modular.
I love scales!
I see what ya did there, stealthily repping Novation on your desk... thanks again for the vids!
The only ADDAC module i have is their (quad) Intuitive Quantizer. Small footprint (10HP), 4 chained quantizers and gate in/outs per! It can tame up to four pitch beasts at once!
The uScales looks rad, but if anybody is hunting for potentially cheaper alternative check the O_c

Ricky is not using the uScales (Micro-scales) which has unfortunately been discontinued, and is probably what would have suited him better (slimmer, smaller). He''s using the Scales which is the successor and is bigger and more powerful.

@@RickyTinez that's why I think all modular voices must have "tune lock" or "set to C" buttons
Just a note, If you're going with quantisers, make sure, your oscillators are in tune. It's like at 5:40, oscillator pitch was actually around one tone lower, than the quantiser was showing. So be careful, something you see is not what you hear!

Yea my fault haha, i was lazy and went by ear on a complex wavetable sound :/ Thanks for the heads up Ian! Sorry everyone!
I use tiptop quantizer for same thing 🤓... love your videos
Hey there, here's some tip: Using a quantizer you might want to tune the vco. The pitch control knob kind of kills your scale for it offsets your pitch. Keep up the great sound, i love it.
@GeorgeLocke

Yes. Please.
O m g, i need this setup 🤗🙈
You should check out the possibility of using a micro Ornament and Crime, running the Hemisphere suite custom firmware, as an alternative to this. You could do four separate channels of quantizing, or 2 channels, and then run some other utility (like slew or a shift register) on the other half. It's only menu divy when choosing which applet to run on each half, and once selected is pretty immediate to use.

I add Scales ontop of Bloom in patches and have one of the outputs on Chance go into Scales :)

Everything changed everything
Disting has a quantizer, and so does the new Pamela firmware. 8x quantizers w/pam!
Depends on the type of the ladder, transistor ladder can be fun ;)
Hell yes Ricky! This is a great one. *Immediately starts searching Reverb for Scales*
i've been eyeballing that lil dude for some months now, it does look like the best bang for the buck quantizer w/ small hp
I have to say Rick Your channel has helped me understand how important it is that i start building a EuroRack Modular.... But one problem... No job, and very poor... Like poverty line looks rich to me.. But i was able to get a Neutron for xmas (early) and it is my first analog gear and i LOVE IT!!! It is amazing... band new for 246.50 I'm in love... I mean dont get me wrong i love my MicrowaveXT and will never part with it but this synth has added some new fun for this 40yr old kid :)
Ricky, I like to learn what you are doing with your chassis, as a kindness to us old folks that can’t read mouseprint anymore, could you please add a list of modules you are using for the episode in the comments? When I jump around on Intelijel episodes I get lost on your latest recipe. Thanks and keep up the good work, even when I am not able to buy I learn a bunch!!! Many thanks!!
A very radical, amazing thing - otherwise known as a quantizer.
Yep. Scales is top of my list of modules I still need. Did you tune the Surface?
damn Rick, thats so tight! 12:43 ...
HOLY SHIT A QUANTIZER! this is like sesame street for producers
Move the monsoon to another case and add a Desmodus Versio. All the effects you need and a button push riser.
Is it just me or was the surface not tuned to the chords? everything sounded off to me

I think it took a few rounds before he got it dialed in, but he got there. The first few dozen bars were off.
Dope as always! You still have the Zoia laying around? You can do exactly this but then for midi. Use the Zoia as the sequencer, quantize and so on. And drive a external device over midi. Have a nice week man!
I was just wondering when you were dropping another vid.
Peace Ricky! I was wondering if you could eventually do a video with your Tascam 424 and how tape recorders work. I.e can you simultaneously record the 4 tracks? If not what is your work around? Thanks for the content ✌🏾
Just got scales and am about to watch this to teach me how to use it, because honestly, this module confuses the hell out of me at the moment.
For small rigs Pamela's New Workout is the Graal of of modules.
For anyone interested ( including the blackbox and case ) this setup will run you approx £2.6K
@FuZZbaLLbee

And a lot of the same functionality can be replicated by a novation monostation I picked up for €150 second hand
Hey Ricky, great videos as always. I'm just wondering why you only post in 1080p, especially if you are using the Pocket 6k according to what you film with. 4k can future-proof your videos. I'm sure you already know this :-) Or maybe you are using 1080p so you can "crop in" 4k footage. I totally get it. I'm coming out with 2 more channels, I have 3 right now. I'll be using the Pocket 6k as well. If 6k RAW is too taxing on my CPU then I may use 4k in ProRes. Anyway I know this is a bit off topic. Keep up the great work and maybe we'll cross paths.
I keep forgetting to ask this. Your overhead camera set up looks great -- what is your equipment setup for doing these overhead shots of the mini system?
Ricky, my guess is you'll be getting a Prophet-5 desktop when it's released....not a question. Fact. ;)
Check out the (MT) Turing Machine for your random patterns.. could be another revelation!
Hi Ricky, have you ever considered swapping out the Mimetic for a Turing Machine to get slowly evolving random melodies?

Hi, can you explain how you make the low sounds, sound good for people who are looking at your videos on their phone? Do you mix your voice with gadget output? Or are you recording the whole thing with microphones?
