This Module Changed Everything // Intellijel Scales, jam?

Музыка

I never knew a Quantizer would be SO useful! It made my eurorack modular synth musical (to my ears) It guides you a bit more into the easy module world of things. Allowing you to get the modular sound, but without the headache! Use the modular with samples and some typical sounds and its a perfect blend of samples, playing, and modular stuff. My favorite would have to be the Intellijel Scales, even though i know the ACL Sinfonion is an amazing quantizer but i needed a small quantizer. The Erica Synths Quantizer is great, but a bit too limited for my needs. Intellijel Scales checks all the boxes and more.

Yeah, scale quantizers where you can select notes in and out are awesome! Discovered the power of those early on in my VCV Rack adventures and it completely changes/enhances the way you can make music. E.g. mix two different type LFO's at different speeds into an attenuator and then the quantizer. It's a whole universe to be discovered. The power of CV!!

Genuinely never seen anyone get this excited (and inspired) over quantiser module before :) the pairing with Surface works really well. I’m definitely inspired to try my Sonic Kitchen Penrose quantiser with my Rings module, although it does lack the flexibility of Surface. In my experience, less is more - fewer notes but used well gives a better performance. My go-to key at the moment is Em pentatonic

Great discovery. If you use more modules receiving pitch from Scales you like to use a S&H module (capable to hold pitch like the RND from DivKid) so the pitch changes only when the voice triggers. I use uO_c as a quad S&H which is also a buffered multi, octave shifter, quantizer and more, if you like.

Hey ricky I’m also rocking the meze 99s. I love the warmth of their sound while still being high res they are the perfect balance for me, and great price point for audiophile gear. I have the drop version but they left the sound alone and just tweaked the color slightly. No gold but it knocks 100 off. Love the groove in this vid, hope to hear a full track with this setup soon! To get scales-like functionality, I made a little midi processor. It takes two keyboards as input, and spits out quantized notes. One input is hints for configuring the scale, like on the module above. The other input is for performance note data, which gets quantized and transposed into that scale. Super simple, but also very useful. Makes it possible to easily improv real-time with pretty much anything, even if the song has a ton of key/scale changes. Just sent hint-track notes from a sequencer, and the performance track will always stay in tune.

You should check out the possibility of using a micro Ornament and Crime, running the Hemisphere suite custom firmware, as an alternative to this. You could do four separate channels of quantizing, or 2 channels, and then run some other utility (like slew or a shift register) on the other half. It's only menu divy when choosing which applet to run on each half, and once selected is pretty immediate to use.

Hey Ricky, great videos as always. I'm just wondering why you only post in 1080p, especially if you are using the Pocket 6k according to what you film with. 4k can future-proof your videos. I'm sure you already know this :-) Or maybe you are using 1080p so you can "crop in" 4k footage. I totally get it. I'm coming out with 2 more channels, I have 3 right now. I'll be using the Pocket 6k as well. If 6k RAW is too taxing on my CPU then I may use 4k in ProRes. Anyway I know this is a bit off topic. Keep up the great work and maybe we'll cross paths.

I keep forgetting to ask this. Your overhead camera set up looks great -- what is your equipment setup for doing these overhead shots of the mini system?

    Ricky, my guess is you'll be getting a Prophet-5 desktop when it's released....not a question. Fact. ;)

Hi Ricky, have you ever considered swapping out the Mimetic for a Turing Machine to get slowly evolving random melodies?

Hi, can you explain how you make the low sounds, sound good for people who are looking at your videos on their phone? Do you mix your voice with gadget output? Or are you recording the whole thing with microphones?
