This is an APSC lens you said. Does it mean I can only use it on Canon RF APSC? How will it behave on my R6m2? Will the camera go into crop mode? If yes, what would the megapixels be and I'm afraid the vinyetting would become worse. A penny for your thoughts ..
@markwiemels
6 ай бұрын
@@marknongkhlaw1674 Yes, you can use it in crop mode, but it's only 9.1MP then. You could also shoot in Full Frame mode then crop in editing, and probably get a few more MP out of it, but I don't know exactly how many.
Sorry I’m going to geek out a bit… 50mm is not the true “normal” focal length for full frame. The mathematical normal is defined as the diagonal measurement of the sensor (or negative). Full frame is 36mm x 24mm. So if you use Pythagorean theory the normal focal length would be 43mm. Using the same math, the normal lens for APS-C is 28mm. For 6x6cm it is 85mm. But most manufacturers supplied either 80mm or 90mm on those cameras. On a side note, the APS-C sensor is the same size of the negative from what used to be called “half frame” 35mm film. That’s why the crop factor for APS-C is 1.5.

@@Canadianforestfairy I have a Panasonic Micro 4/3s camera and I love the Panasonic 9mm F1.7; equal to an 18mm Full Frame.
it was gifted to me by my sister as a birthday present. I first underrated this lens since it was manual focus (and it was quite on the heavier side) . But then after a little bit of searching an learning, I am starting to look at this lens at a different way. It made me more creative from time to time and when my buddies hang around me they get shocked at how wide this lens can capture, I am really thankful to my sister that she made me experience such a great lens.
already had mine backordered 👍 looking forward to getting it in a couple weeks
There were only 10 of the Sony e-mount left in stock on Amazon when I went to check and this lens would serve me well. Had to grab it! Awesome review, thank you!
I would love to see a side-by-side comparison to the Viltrox 13. It has quite a well reserved reputation now, but it is a bit bulky. Would be nice to hear about subtle color rendition. Pastels, for example.
For nearly all of my work, and I am an Obsessive/Compulsive, I use a 10 to 24 and a 24 to 70. When I'm in a City, I go with my 10 to 24 . If I am careful about holding the camera parallel to the horizon, there is very little distortion. If I tilt it up or down, I can emphasize the patterns on tiled or marble plazas (like the one's I'm seeing in Budapest today) or emphasize the monumentality of the churches and Statuary. I do depend on Autofocus and exposure assistance as, at 75, I don't focus as quickly as I one did
Very good points, just ordered myself this lens as well. My first ultra wide, can't wait.
Cool that they've nailed the flare/haze performance on this lens! I've loved the other TTArtisan lenses I used to own but ultimately gave them up because the flare/haze is just really bad.
Love that I’ve come across your channel as well as your enthusiasm for what you review… I HAD to order it especially living in such a beautiful architectural city Deep South much history and the fact that the lines stay so true to what we see… creativity to rejuvenate my recent stale state of mind and excitement in rediscovering photography once more … several more on my list since I started following you … affordable invigorating renewed once again…stay blessed next on the list portraiture with 35 mm 0.95 and night usage

Awesome review sir! If you have the chance, can you also review the TTartisan 7.5mm F2? Loving the series on budget lens recommendation!
Hello and thanks for your reviews. Size and aperture apart how would you compare this TTartisan and the Aaowa 10mm F4 regarding IQ, flare, sharpness, CA ? It would be to mount on a 40mpix Fuji sensor. Thanks !
Thanks for taking the time. Will this lens function on a EF/EF-S Canon 70D with an adapter?
That's how I see and also use ultra wide lenses, as long as they don't destort, when travelling. You said it correctly, wherever I also go, museums, cities, mountains...there has to be that one or two photos that will "wrap around" the scene and tell a story where I've been to, what place, how big or small was it? Only a ultra wide lens can give you that. Still it's not a lens I'll make tons of pictures with, like you said, it's either to start my moment somewhere, or to have a proper closure before leaving the place :)
I'm curious, for astrophotography and general landscape use, which would be the best choice, this lens, the Rokinon 12mm, or the 13mm Viltrox? I am interested in trying astrophotography. I'm on the Fujifilm system (X-T1).
Thanks for the video. I already have this one on my Amazon wish list for Sony e mount.

Mark, would this lens be a good option for photographing live music? I'm currently using the TT Artisan 25mm, Minolta 50mm 1.7, and Konica 135mm 2.8. I'm missing a wide option. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your detail review. May I know which one do you recommend for astrophotography in APSC between this lens and Yongnuo 11mm lens? I cannot find any comparison between these two lens so I cannot decide what to buy. I am okay with Manual focus. Thnak you.
Can you get an adapter for Nikon F mount? I only have DSLRs. I can't afford mirrorless.
I love your reviews! I am torn between two lenses. This 10 mm f2 and the 17 mm f1.4. Please help me choose.
Chinese lens manufacturers are gradually stepping up their game. I got the 6mm f2 Laowa for MFT which is coupled for aperture control with the lens mount contacts, it's still manual focus though. That lens is stunning - and tiny. Having that in the bag at all times is a no-brainer when you're on MFT.

Mark, I love this lens, but when using at f2 to f4 there is a significant distortion on the corners. I noticed this when I had people in the corners and in focus. Is there a lightroom formula for this lens to help correct that?
Nice Lens and Nice Aussie showcase 🙌
How do you think this would compare with the 14mm Samyang/Rokinon for full frame? I have the old one, but the new versions look a lot more compact, more specifically much shorter. Not much seems to compare with the pricing that TTartisans get out there though
Hello, nice review! Is this lens usable on Nikon z6? Would there be any issues like really dark corners?
Looking forward to getting mine. Coming via mule to Mexico.
I would like to know how good the barrel distortion is reduced in lens design compared to other lenses with same focal length.
I am looking for a lens for interior architecture photography. Will this lens fit the panasonic lumix gx800k camera?
A great full frame budget option would be the canon RF 16mm love that lens!

16mm on FF is bit of extreme. But I used it often with 16-35 2.8. Speaking about eye FOV. It is 21 mm or 90 degrees. Try 21 mm without O(EVF) just by pointing camera to where you are looking at. You'll see how close it is to what you see. :)
The normal field of view is equivalent to the diagonal of the medium (film, sensor, etc), so 43mm for 35mm SLRs. In the past using SLRs, if you had your right eye to the viewfinder and left eye open, the two images would match. Thanks for the review.

@BobDiaz123

@parshua I always felt that the 35mm (Full Frame) lens seemed closer to the "normal" field of view than the 50mm. The 50mm lens always felt like a crop of what I was seeing with my eyes. While my eyes can see wider than a 35mm lens, it seems like it covers the key part of my vision. I've heard that the 50mm Normal lens was chosen by Leica many years ago and was not really based on any math or science. Since then, everyone has copied what Leica chose.
Excellent, as always, many thanks

which is better this or the meike 10mm f2 for fuji mount?
Amazon listing indicates compatibility with full-frame models R5, R6, R8 etc. I've been unable to corroborate that and throughout the listing, they also describe it as APS-C. I'm new to this but it SEEMS like you could use full frame lenses on APS-C sensors, but not the reverse. I just acquired an R8. I doubt this work work for me but can anyone confirm?
What are your suggestions for canon m50 in 2024 for beginner to intermediate photographer?
Between this one and the 12mm britin star, which performs best?
I just want to add, that it solves many problems for those of us using a micro 4/3 camera for indoor use. This is my new office studio video lens. Great economy lens if you do not need autofocus and your camera is on a tripod.

How does this lens look on a full frame in full frame mode? Please include that in the future on any APS-C lens. Many of them do quite well on full frame albeit not as good as a full frame lens but more useful than just throwing away thr boarders. Thanks for your videos. They're really fantastic. You're presenting a very good representation of the lenses with the way you talk about them.

If you shoot at f4, you can set it up so everything from about 1 meter to infinity is in focus, and it will look really good.
Going to seriously consider this for my m43 cams.
I have a question ! Do you know or have you heard, if any brand or optical company use a thin layer of graphene to protect the surface of lenses..? Since graphene is extremely hard and strong.
the dramatic closeups remind me of the opening scene in dune where he uses the voice and they do the close up shots of the face and the glass of water.
Where are you getting the 10mm from?
Lots of shots of Katoomba / Blue mountains! Where I grew up. Great review, thanks. I wonder how it would perform for Astro, with coma etc. Sharpness to the edge of frame is desirable for the landscape photography crowd. Definitely an interesting lens that I’ll look more into.

Could you do a pseudoscientific test where you compare a vintage lens on full frame, an expensive modern lens on full frame and a modern smartphone then have newbies tell you which monitor view of the image, 5X7 print, 8X10 print and instagram view is best? It would be interesting to test both dark and well lit scenes.

Yes, in crop mode. Would be a 15mm FOV full frame.
Great lens for a beginner astrophotographer
This lens is really a bargain. Even if you have a full-frame camera and run it in crop mode. The price and size justify throwing it in your bag to have a pretty wide angle in addition to whatever other lens you're using that doesn't go quite as wide. The wider lenses give you the sort of cell-phone "just snap a photo" experience where focusing isn't that hard, and the f/2 gives this a pretty small size. Also having two hood / cap options is a lot of flexibility for a $170 lens. The closest lens I have is the Sigma 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN ART for full frame and if you were to carry it in the bag just to have an ultra-wide it's a significant amount of extra weight and space (also costs 8x as much).
