Hinduism and Buddhism has beliefs which are false. So Russell should involve himself into only true beliefs which are supported by sound evidences and facts. Not just because the belief or its explanation sounds beautiful. Like idol worship is an insult to human intelligence which is bless by great one true God. How can human worship something created by their own imagination and reasoning? If I am wrong, then why humans worship computers, mathematics, logic, machines, ai and so on which are intelligent and benefits man more than idols. Worship and praying to idols is wrong because they cannot even protect themselves then how they can protect you. Regarding buddha, buddha says all desire leads to pain which is non sense. Socialist, psychologist and thinkers and philosophers has identified that there are two types of desires or impulse - one more possessive & harmful for humans and other more creative, constructive and beneficial to humans which gives great true pure right happiness. But buddha didn't realise that achieving positive desires leads to true happiness. Read book of Bertrand Russell called conquest of happiness.

I'm relieved to hear that the mantra can be said in your head rather than out loud, as I'm not confident enough to vocalise them as yet. Like you, my mind has an endless commentary playing, or a song stuck on repeat .... so repeating a mantra sounds like the perfect way to declutter the mind! ✨🗣️✨

In your head is certainly better than not at all, but my understanding is that the sounds and vibrations they produce in the body are VERY important - they’re not simply Sanskrit translations of a random phrase. Both math and sound are integral and possibly the most important part of their creation.

It is best to find a guru and at first using a visual anchor to hold in your mind like an idol or a yantra that goes with the mantra. Chanting mentally is best and not getting frustrated or having an intention. Set your attention first and do a simple puja. During japa however just let go of all thoughts, let the mantra be the only thought, no goal, no asking for anything, no expectations, simply tuning into a current of energy which is the mantra. Trust the mantra to do the work you dont need to do anything other than just focus. The only effort is returning the mind to the mantra gently over and over as the mind wanders. Eventually concentration will lead into true meditation as you said the mantra will dissolve and all visualizing will dissolve there will just be void and awareness. Eventually the void and awareness become one and the same

Eventually theres this sweet spot of transcendence, but, it seems as soon as i notice the state that "noticing" knocks me out of it! Its a fun game!

I'm really liking both your channels these days! A topic I would be really interested to hear your take (or do an interview with some wise person) on is aphantasia (lack of any mental imagery), which I ahve. I only realised aphantasia is a 'thing' a couple of years ago, and it made total sense to me years of frustration with guided style meditations. All that imagining doors and gardens and beaches puts you in a really stressful place when you just see nothing with your eyes closed. My husband is a hypervisualiser and now that I understand that when people say "I can picture that' it's not just a turn of phrase, we gradually explore the profound differences in how we experience life and the world. At first I felt i was missing out (as do a lot of people in the aphantasia fb group), but I've come to realise that it's actually easier for me to still my mind, even without meditation. I'm now exploring breath meditation, and I am really drawn to mantras, but find it hard to hear them in my mind too.

By having minimal understanding of nakshatra and the natal chart, I was able to uncover a personal mantra based on those things by using both. Gnostic Teachings also recommends intoning vowel sounds, chakra sounds (Ut-re-mi-fa-so-la). They also recommend runes but runes have not as yet resonated with me. Om Ah Hum, AUM, Om, Krim, etc. The personal, natal based nakshatra is probably very empowering on an individual basis. Thank you for visiting this topic. I hope it helps a lot of people.

The book "The Greatest Salesman in the World" was my initial intro to meditation. It has jack squat to do with sales and everything to do with spirituality and being in touch with oneself. It eliminates falsehoods that people hold about what makes a good salesman, but only if read as a mantra as the book suggests.

While I was using your meditation videos...I was wondering why we use these mantras. Thanks for this explanation. I loved the first video I meditated with you last spring “meditation for beginnerrs”. and you used the word “flower” 🌼 which I still use. I do see how it occupies the mind in order to free it.

I don't know if many people do this, but aside from just sitting down and going into mediation, either breath or with mantras... but I tend to prepare the space a bit as well, usually involves lighting a candle to place in front of me which I've found helpful to stay in the meditation so even when a distracting thought might get in the way, I can focus back on the candle as a way to kind of hone back into the mediation... I hope this might help people who might also get distracted during mediation. At the end of the meditation, I tend to put the candle out and wait for the smoke to dissipate.

Buddhism really pulled me out of a bad place, and studied it throughout 2020 and still learning. It's been incredibly helpful, insightful and really helped improve my life-incredibly. I started with books from Thich Naht Hanh, and later got into reading from the pali canon, as well as the Tibetan book of the dead, and modern philosophies from Buddhism. It's really something that's helped me tremendously

i do like the mantras when said out loud, because you can feel the vibration and effect all through the spine. I also find that certain mantras will have an effect on how i will feel for the rest of the day. - I held off doing them for a while until i knew what they meant and decided whether that was appropriate for me to use them. They do help - i have a very electric speeding train mind - and i need something with a vibrational tone to calm that stuff. My favourite of your most recent ones is Aum Namah Shivaya. I just really liked how i felt after that one.

Turns out what a lot of mantras are doing is activating the vagus nerve, or the parasympathetic system. I find "Aum" does that for me, esp when I focus on the throat/chest resonance, sends me into that deep relaxation state that feels connected to all. Those Yogis knew their stuff.

With me, I tend to use the chakra mantras because they're easy to remember and to chant out when you practice in generating the right vibrations in both mind and body. Plus they symbolise each different meaning that resonates different human qualities. They can also be done at any time with or without the meditation through either silent or loud utterances which helps in making them stick.

You can tell he practices what he preaches (love it). Try the [[[waheguru]]] mantra, it's known to be the most powerful mantra there is up to date by the spiritual masters. It means wow god or wow guru, chant it in feelings and emotions of gratitude, wonderment, and praise for the divine. If you give this mantra your attention while chanting by focusing on the 4 sounds wa-he-gu-ru it will merge you with the divine frequency leaving no trace of "I" or "me" ie.. (ego or self existence).
