I communicate with the enemy squad all the time in vanilla squad. I frequently encourage my teammates to shoot back after intense engagements to remind the enemy we are not dead. Everyone speaks muzzle its a universal language.

Dude the other day my fireteam was walking and we saw the enemy talking so we laid down. They we laughing so good and boom we ambushed them and then we just started talking shit to each other. It was amazing 😂

This is essentially the reason that vanilla Squad historically has opted not to enable proximity chat cross teams. It would have lead to clans exclusively using Discord for their communications, which would be a degradation of the in-game play experience of everyone around them. The voip system was intentionally made to be usable and not have major downsides to third party options. Of course cross team chat is pretty funny, but once you start playing to win you just end up with a much quieter game. It was only recently enabled in the mod because devs recently unlocked it as an option in the SDK.

Enemy Prox Chat is dope asf. Completely changed the game. Hopefully OWI will implement this in vanilla squad.

I honestly really pray that they don’t. All it’s gonna do is encourage the exclusive use of out of game communication softwares in cqb, so if you’re not in discord with your sl, suddenly comms are gonna stop happening. Idk if they can still hear your half of squad comms if the enemy is close enough, but I assume probably, and if that’s the case, is bad. We don’t need more reasons for people to use discord over the in game comms Or people to start screaming and yelling bad info when they are down near the enemy to overwhelm any comms they might be having. It could work if implemented well, but there’s a lot of issues with treating you voip like this in a game like squad

Yeah, I’d rather it still be the choice of server owners. If they want inter-team proximity chat, they can put a small mod on their server that does just that.

I love interrogating the fallen enemy, "HOW MANY TICKETS DO YOU HAVE??" I love psyching out the enemy when they kill me. "THROW THE GRENADE, THEY ARE ON MY BODY!!" and hearing the enemy scatter in fear.

Seeing my name in one of your videos made my day. I will be leaving home in a few days to do my mandatory military service. Since I won't have any internet connection, I wouldn't be able to see this video for months if you post it a few days later. I will continue to follow you after my duty is over. I play a lot of this game called War of Rights. It's an American Civil War game with muzzle loading rifles. I don't think I'd play it so much if it didn't have full proxy chat

If they ever add it this to vanilla squad, there needs to be a variable distance you can proximity chat so you can choose to speak to your buddies near you without the enemy hearing from farther away. DayZ for example has 3 local voice chat distances whisper, speaking, yelling.

it isnt like insurgency sandstorm enemies cant hear you if you talk over radio, honestly i think this makes more sense than adding yet another keybind to the game that is only useful in niche situations

This should be in normal squad, but it shouldn’t make the difference between ally and enemy (red and blue) so that it does not fuck you up so easely. Like if they are 40m from you, they can’t even hear you but they will see the red voice line pop…. Also this would enable to whisper and not get caught In the same way, I really think we should hear people in proximity when they are speaking to command/squad radio. This would make so much more sense, and we would hear our SL talk to command and feel involved. Also because it’s too easy to just talk in squad channel and not be heard by enemies

to be fair I feel like the red is fair, given the factions are from different regions they would be speaking a different language/have different accent. so you can sorta headcanon it.

I personally think servers running GE with enemy VOIP should also allow usage of enemy vehicles. which is a command servers can use. that way there's a heavier risk to usage of vehicles, squads may want to destroy their own vehicles (which is risking tickets) so enemies don't steal them. teams can do more recon kinda stuff using enemy vehicles etc.

Or maybe have a distortion effect played through your voice when an enemy gets close, so they'll hear you and know you are around but won't understand you (Also would make more sense since most people don't speak a common language)

This was my favorite part of Insurgency, but insurgency has a super advanced sound engine which made it a lot easier to distinguish between friend and foe. The non competitive game modes also had team chat that akin to squad chat. I think this feature has a potential to increase squad play while also increasing funny moments.

Well, Project Reality had this kind of Mumble configuration in the early days. I figure they removed it because it was abused after some time, and was not contributing to the overall tactical gameplay experience. It was still fun for a while. :)

I’ve wanted them to do this for so long. I’m an insurgency sandstorm player snd this feature makes the game so much better. Another reason to only play this mod.

It’s fun but it would probably only be kinda balanced if there was an option to whisper where only teammates nearby can hear you, and to talk to friendlies further away you need to shout but in that case nearby enemies will hear you. Optionally making it so everyone can raise their hands to surrender and only lose half a ticket for their team rather than a full one would be interesting.

nah they should just remove the popup that shows the name of the enemy when they speak, local voip already gets quieter over distance anyway

Was playing GE a few days ago on mutaha and had the time to shoot at the enemy BMD twice and not have the rocket arm,then another 3-4 to kill it,I walked up to the burning corpse and just yelled “Ha,loosers” then ran off laughing,saw 3 red voice things pop up but I couldn’t hear them 😢😂

Awesome, we need more voice chat! There should only be two rules: 1. Say whatever you want. 2. Do not get upset.

Enemy prox chat is great and would funny as hell but it needs to be a seprate channel so you can still plan things with ur team. General Chat (enemy names don't show up, but you can hear them talk) Local Chat / Local Radio (Only team heard it) Squad Chat (Squad only) Command Chat (SLs only) Also would be a fun gimmick to be able to switch off ur radio - it would be usefull when ur lookin for a radio n everyone is yapping in squad chat.

We NEED this in vanilla

coming from someone who mainly plays Project Reality, Poximity chat is what makes games like the recent Battlebit so much more fun and engaging in the overall enjoyment i've gotten out of modern online FPS in the recent years. however from a Potato PC perspective im intimidated of my wallets financial health if SQUAD were to implement it cause thats quite literally now the LAST checkbox left since the added PRs Accuracy bar system in the ICO update that will finally break me into upgrading my hardware to be able to finally buy and install the game even if its just to run it on minimum.. And it will be one of the few non-regrettable purchases ill probably make for the rest of 2024

Played my first couple of games of GE mod over the weekend (Finally a OCE server is setup) What a pleasant experience compared to the current squad. VOIP is great!

i find myself talking in local and giving myself away out of habit lol. gotta get used to this

One day we'll reach a point where AI will be able to translate our words into other languages or even just gibberish that sounds like a language in real time to simulate fighting a force that doesn't speak your language.

I think there's an Arma mod that scrambles it by taking the enemy audio and reversing it in 1 second chunks. So you get a slight delay, but it still sounds like speech, but you can't understand it.

This should be in vanilla but the enemy VoIP should be scrambled in a way so you cannot really understand what's being said, you know the enemy is talking and the tone and urgency in their voice but you cannot understand exactly what, so you don't know if they are organising a flank or nades on your position.

BattleBit Remastered has the same mechanic by default in all servers, and its hilarious especially since the game is low poly and less serious.

No that's actually something you can toggle in game. I'm pretty sure if you bring up the map and go to the map options you can change stuff like objective sizes and line opacity but you can also switch all players on map to display kit instead, it's very useful

Enemy prox chat is overall good, but i need to be able to mute enemy players. Had people last night literally screaming into their mics and couldn't mute them.

what server u playing on, ive checked everyone of em wich includes GE. But they are all empty :/

Miniguns as far as I know do not continuously spin nor do you need to spool them up before firing like in cod

I dunno how I feel about hearing the enemy's local voice chat. Muh immershun might be ruined if a Russian guy starts blasting California Girls at me after I stab him. I think that at most this should be an optional feature under admin control. What I WOULD love to see is something more Tarkov-esque where you can have voice emotes similar to how calling a medic works. Sneaking up behind an enemy only to have my character yell "GET SOME" before I stab them would be great.

this guy knows what he's talking, local chat for both teams might be fun for a couple of rounds...but yea...it's already tiring hearing your squadmates talking about what cereal they prefer more while blasting katy perry in their $5 mics...I can't imagine having to hear the enemy too doing the same thing for and hour or so

This issue sometimes also happens in CS2 (dont play squad much) where your teammates start talking random stuff most of the time, but ALSO give callouts when important. You want to mute them but also cant if you want info. It's not always as simple as "just mute them lol"

@@Preohhh comparing cs2 to squad is kind of ridiculous since they really have nothing in common gameplay wise. Squad is insanely casual in comparison and muting some fuck wit who's blasting music through their microphone or talking shit really won't impact your gameplay at all. In CS2 that could lose you round after round since comms are way more important as the teams are much smaller.

As an Arma player we've had this feature for 18yrs.. just sayin. I love squad but the team-restricted comms have always been one of the downsides to it. Been playing Squad on/off since v0.8 but proximity chat is fun, like luring people into ambushes and stuff is always fun.. they should work on removing the on screen elements of enemy players talking though if possible.. cool to see it in squad though. thanks for the vid.

I think enemy prox should be a little quieter than friendly prox

This something I love about Arma Reforger. It's a shame they had to remove the ability to talk on captured enemy radios due to it being abused, it was always fun to give wrong callouts to the enemy, especially if you managed to decipher some of their objective code names.

They had this feature for 1 day on u777 server in project reality and the devs cried about it so they removed it its was so hilarious

I want it, i just dont want tryhards to have an advantage via going to discord.

If you speak on squad, will they be able to hear you too and also on global command

PR tried this and it failed .There should be a true global chat binded to a different key, with grey (or no) IDs displayed, purely for taunting/bants with enemy team. But the blue team VOIP should still remain to prevent 1:02. Otherwise everyone will just use discord in fear of giving away their position.
