Welcome to MASpets! A channel dedicated to providing high quality information about exotic, alternative, and unique pets, as well as traditional ones. This channel supports the freedom of pet owners to care for the species of their choice as long as that animal has been shown to thrive in human care under the right conditions. We strongly believe that facts and education, not admonition, is the best policy for encouraging potential pet keepers to choose the best pet for their living situation. We believe there is no such thing as a ‘good pet’, and do not promote any particular species as pets, however we understand that the desire of some to own something different is essential to their expression and existence as an individual. Whether you are considering a pet, or are just interested in the subject, this channel invites you to become informed about the exciting world of animal diversity.
There are hundreds of species of exotic pets! Some examples include: fennec fox, porcupine, serval, wallaby, boa constrictor, rainbow crab, bush baby, zebra, squirrels, ostrich, kinkajou, macaws, springhare, lemur, leopard gecko, tarantula, capybara, sloth, owl, cockatoo, muntjac deer, lion, short-tailed opossum, raccoon, scorpion, green iguana, and more.
Domesticated exotic pets include domestic rats, hamster, gerbil, goldfish, guinea fowl, Bengal cat, peacock, fainting goats, and sugar gliders.
We post introductory videos to animals that can be kept as pets, care tips, address controversies, legal issues, and more. Please see the posted links for more information about this subject!

Thank you for such an educational and thought provoking video! Big cats do have the ability to hurt us, but so do dogs, the latter of whom does so at much higher rates than tigers, even w population taken into account. Domestication ≠ safe, and vice versa. It just all comes down to individual owners and specific animals, much like the pit bull bans.

I find particularly interesting to note that only big cats were targeted for the federal ban against having potentially dangerous exotic animals as pets. Bears and their cubs which are arguably just as cute as big cat cubs were not included in the new law. Somebody could easily start a grizzly bear cub petting business to take the place of the tiger cub petting businesses in the USA.

And I would argue bears are more dangerous. The only serious injury at the sanctuary I worked at came not from tigers or lions but a brown bear when the keeper got caught in between an Asian black bear and the brown bear fighting. It was an accident and the bear hung its head in shame for weeks, but the most a tiger ever did was bite the trainer in the butt and let go when it was cranky during a ring show. A male lion jumped down from the pedestal and guarded the trainer until someone he trusted could come get her. Her son.

Thank you. A Tortie owns me and I live with her. MAU rules. Listen to me? Maybe. If she wants too. Agree with the playful mood that can change in the twinkling of an eye.

You keep saying in your videos there is only 1-3 fatalities a year. That is 1 too many. The big cats also die in these situations. And there are many more injuries. They aren't domesticated by any actual science and science is not conspiring against exotic pets.

No I said 0-1, as in there are years where it didn't happen even once, and when it does happen, it's probably going to be the only time. You want to start talking about injuries there are hundreds of thousands caused by "domesticated" pets per year. I've looked through the "actual science" and they are domesticated. There is no rule that states domesticated animals cannot be large and dangerous. You people just make up stuff that makes no sense. They (the captive population) are more domesticated than most dogs and cats.

@@Maspets tigers are not considered domesticated by anyone though, just you. Capitive bred animals are not the same as domisticated animals.

@@fj852 Do you care about what someone "considers", or do you care about what actually is reality? No one can separate tigers and other so-called domesticated animals in any way. Your argument is that their belief in an erroneous myth has some kind of substance. It doesn't.

@@Maspets what seperates capitive breed, tame animals and domesticated? In your opinion?

@@fj852 Tame: animals that are docile around humans (subjective) Captive-bred: animals that are bred in captivity (confinement) Domesticated: Any animals with genetic adaptation to an anthropogenic environment. Which happens to most or all captive-bred animals around 5 to 30 generations. Possibly less. Some free-ranging animals are also domesticated (like dogs and cats).
